Tender Loving Care Senior Residence Description

Shawn McGivney, MD and Kerry McGivney, RN proudly preside over the Tender Loving Care Senior Residence (TLCSR), their very own haven of comfort for seniors. Both boast an impressive breadth of geriatric expertise, with one as a Medical Doctor (MD) and the other as a Registered Nurse (RN). This brother and sister pair have been driven to aid seniors since they were wee tykes, helping their folks look after Grandma Esther when she moved in with the family. From a young age, they experienced the elation and tribulations of tending to those dearest to them in the comfort of their own home.

Assisted Living
When a senior requires additional support, many families turn to Assisted Living Facilities as an ideal way for their loved one to age gracefully in place. In many instances, help with daily activities and medications is structured in a point system or tiered levels of support. Every step up or item comes with an extra fee. The expense of these offerings fluctuates depending on the quantity and frequency required for each service.

Memory Care
Secure Memory Care Facilities are specially crafted to keep residents from straying beyond the facility's boundaries. At some of the sprawling Assisted Living Facilities, a special memory care unit is available with its own personnel and services. Memory care units typically provide an array of room options, from private rooms to double or triple occupancy. Our team is available to provide personalized support with personal care and medication management, for an additional fee on a point or tiered basis.

Respite Care
Different people ascribe various interpretations to respite care. In general, respite care offers a much-needed break to the overworked and overwhelmed caregiver. Although respite care can be offered in a facility if necessary, it typically occurs within the comfort of one's own home. Many family caregivers, unfortunately, push themselves beyond their limits without seeking proper assistance and care for both their physical and mental wellbeing.

There are no words to express the gratitude I have for the care provided to my father by the TLC family. Prior to TLC my father was in at least three "memory care units" where lots of promises were made regarding the patient centered care that would be provided and the expertise of handling any difficult behavioral problems that come with progression of altzheimer's. As a nurse practitioner I thought I had done my due diligence with researching the facilities. I was wrong. With the covid shutdown in March 2020, many of the facilities housing elderly took advantage of the fact that families could no longer check on loved ones physically and a lot of negligence occurred. My father was moved three times during this time as I tried to find the best care. What did Tender Loving Care provided that these other facilities did not?1. As with any patient with dementia, moving them to a new facility can be very difficult. The transition can cause them to progress in the dementia and not recover. It can increase behavioral disturbances during the adjustment period. My father was already having issues with agitation when needing to have his brief changed/bathing so the staff already had their hands full when he came over. Dr. McGivney and Kerri were amazing and worked very closely with me to make changes to his medication regimen to reduce the behavioral disturbances to allow the staff to care for my father. In addition, the staff is highly trained to learn how to communicate with the resident in a way that does not increase the agitation. Once he was stable, the doctor would reassess with the goal of reducing medications as needed depending on dad's response. There is not one facility out there that I know that would spend this individualized attention with a patient. The staff is watching the resident daily and reporting back to Kerri and Dr. McGivney on medication response.2. The staff truly got to know my father and what he liked. When they asked for the list of things he liked they actually used that information to learn how to get him to engage with the community. I would come in to visit and he would be in his "office" writing for work. He would be at the desk reading the newspaper while staff was also sitting with him engaged with acitivities. Staff found out he liked to organize and clean, they would have him helping them and encouraging him, meeting him at his level . This was the biggest differences between TLC and other institutions. My father felt safe, happy , and content here.3. The amazing backyard/courtyard for the residents. Lots of natural light inside the house. Previous facilities promised he could freely walk outside in the locked outdoor courtyard yet at each facility I would find out from my father they were all locked and huge alarm would go off thus my Dad not wanting to go out. He loved being outside and this was the reason I had chosen those facilities !! At TLC, it was truly open and unlocked so residents could freely go outside in the backyard. This is so critical especially with the COVID shutdown that residents can get fresh air and sunshine.4. Maintain all the COVID precautions.5. I could go on and on with all the little things the staff did to let me know how much they cared for my father but there is n't enough space here.Thank you TLC for everything

Having a background in home health care, I knew the second I walked in the door that this is the place for my loved one! EVERYTHING was bright, beautiful, clean, & comfortable. Feels very much like home. I met with Kerry and her team. What a joy, I so appreciate their genuine, caring and calm nature. I highly recommend TLC if you're ever in need of care for someone. The best in Las Vegas (in my opinion).

My mother was at TLC for two years before she died 3 months prior to her 99th birthday in 2014. My mother was in relatively good health, of sound mind, but very frail, needing 24-hour care due to her advanced age. TLC provided this care with exceptional attention to detail, with much affection & respect shown to both my mother and our family. The TLC Staff made a potentially difficult situation less painful for us. We consider our Family blessed to have had the McGivney's & their staff in our lives. Thank you TLC!

TLC is the most wonderful place I could have ever chosen for my fathers residency in the last 1 year of his life. Both my mom and dads health were diminishing but at different paces. My father was suffering from COPD and the affects of bladder cancer. My mom was unable to any longer care for my father. With limited choices of 24/7 household care which is very expensive, or placing my father in a skilled nursing facility ( also expensive and often very demeaning and uncaring ), I made the difficult decision to separate my parents. Miraculously ( and I now often think with divine intervention), I came in contact with TLC. TLC is owned and operated by Dr. Sean McGivney and his sister, who is a nurse. They as well as their team of in residence aides provided my dad the most loving and nurturing environment. Sean and his sister were very proactive in taking care of my Dad and were very diligent in communicating with me how he was all the time. I, like many other 50+ year olds with full families of our own, experienced the 20 + hours a week I devoted to wedding through the elderly care bureaucracy of today's healthcare system where hospice is the goal and communication to family is almost nonexistent. Their goal was to make my dad " comfortable " while he deteriorated at home with my mom unable to help. My dads final year at TLC was loving, respectful and treated my father with dignity. I was rest assured that he was receiving the best care and had Dr Sean routinely calling me to update me on his care. I was able to have my mom live in a wonderful retirement community not to far from my dad. Because of TLC I she was able to enjoy her living situation without the worry or guilt of not being able to help my father. She visited him regularly and enjoyed the welcome we received from TLC. At my fathers funeral, both Dr. Sean and his sister came for the service. This was so very moving and appreciated by my whole family. They were and are like family to us.

I was responsible for taking care of my 80 year old friend.  She started to fail emotionally and physically at her assisted living facility and I had to quickly find a place where there was more care and attention.  TLC was the perfect place.  Kerry answered all my questions and quickly got things moving so that I was able to move my friend in 3 days.  Kerry was reassuring and wonderful.  Dr. Shawn is amazing.  His expertise in geriatrics is comforting and he immediately started treating my friend and adjusting medications that improved her tremendously.  The house is wonderful with a beautiful pool, private rooms, lots of activities.  The staff is caring, and all are absolutely wonderful.  I would come to visit and some would be watching a movie, others would be doing puzzles at the dining room table.  Everyone eats together like a family.  Outings are planned.  There is so much encouragement.  I was so pleased that my friend was able to spend the last 3 months of her life surrounded by love and attention.  I can't stress how comfortable I felt having her there and how comfortable she felt being there.  I would highly recommend TLC to anyone looking in to finding a place for their loved ones who need a little more care and attention.

Dr. Shawn is AMAZING! The doctor actually towers above ALL his peers and is a master of the nuances of elderly care. With my 85 year old aunt he patiently absorbed massive amounts of complex interrelated behavior, pinpointed issues, and succinctly suggested practical & appropriate treatment. He spends extra time and effort whereas other physicians practice minimalistic interaction which often results in hollow findings and shallow treatment plans. He has an integrated 360 degree perspective with a solid understand of business and how things work. In the elderly care space he is a shinning beacon in the sea of graft. If you seek the best care for your loved see Dr. Shawn - I HIGHLY recommend his services!

Tender Loving Care Senior Residence (TLCSR) has served our family twice in the past three years. The directors (one M.D. and one R.N.) manage an exemplary residence for seniors that offers competent, continuous care to loved ones with varied conditions and needs. The directors and their staff are experienced, skillful, and patient. When my very independent aunt in her 80s needed placement in a facility, I was troubled by the choices that were available to our family. I was unable to find one that I felt could and would adequately meet her needs. I reached out to a hospice facility and was referred to Dr. McGivney. I was comforted by the pristine condition of the premises, the presence of the physician and nurse, the pleasant staff, and the content residents. I was relieved to find an opening upon her release from rehabilitation care. My aunt was comfortable and confident in their capable care. Later, my father (in his 90s) required the same living arrangements, and we were pleased that we were able to obtain a space for him thereafter. He was well-cared for, well-fed, and encouraged daily by his experience there. The directors and staff arranged for a particular chair for him that made him happy and comfortable. During the present pandemic, TLCSR instituted precautionary standards and practices that protected our loved ones from harm. My father was very close to all his caretakers, who are indeed tender and loving.

I cannot say enough good things about Tender Loving Care Senior Residence - they deserve a million stars. For the last 24 years I have been in the Army and have not been able to spend much time with my father. He has been battling Parkinson's Disease over the same time period. I recently retired to Las Vegas and wanted to move him close. From the moment I walked into this place I could tell it was special. So special I actually paid for several weeks to reserve a room until I could get my Dad to Las Vegas. IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A PLACE TO TAKE THE BEST CARE OF YOUR LOVED ONE LOOK NO FURTHER! Words cannot express how great this place is. Dr. Sean Mcgivney MD is one of the best doctors I have ever met. Kerry Mcgivney RN is one of the best nurses I have ever met as well. The staff and caregivers are second to none. Their team had my father in the best shape and spirits I had seen him in years. Somehow they managed to get all of his bed sores healed. My Dad loved the food. As his Parkinson's progressed he became delusional but the staff was always kind and able to comfort him. This was particularly difficult with the viral pandemic. TLC did allow us to visit but made certain it was safe for the residents and staff. I really cannot say enough positive things about this place. To be honest I do not understand how they have so many staff and provide such good care for such a low price. They are truly amazing. I have nothing negative to say about this place - they are the best - once you meet Dr. Mcgivney and Nurse Mcgivney you will understand. This place is amazing. They were very supportive when my father passed away last month. Great place and even greater people. No need to look further.

The staff at TLC was very loving to my mother while she live there. Dr. Mcgivney was able to diagnose some things with my mom that other doctors had not and moving her there increased the quality of her life for her last little while on this earth. They are very engaging and have activities that are scheduled daily and I really like that it's more of a home-like setting and they have dinner around the dinner table together and are able to interact in the kitchen while the staff Cooks, it makes it seem much more like a home instead of a hospital setting. I highly recommend this place if you have a loved one that is in need of this type of care.

I count my lucky stars every day that I found TLC for my mother. All the caregivers at TLC are professional, kind, friendly, and capable and treat the residents with dignity and respect as if they were one of their own family members. Dr. Shawn and Kerry are outstanding. The home is beautiful and kept spotless. You can have complete confidence that your loved one will be cared for by the best team. I am SO grateful for TLC.

Three years ago when I was in Las Vegas making arrangements to find a place for my Godmother, I ( by the grace of God) met Dr. Shawn McGivney. He informed me that my 83 year old Godmother was misdiagnosed as having dementia. He began treating her for UTI and she came back to fantastic mental and physical health within a month. She was her "old" self. As soon as a room became available, my Godmother had her own room in one of Dr. McGivney's homes. I live in a suburb near Chicago and have seen my Godmother multiple times since she has been in the phenomenal care of Dr. Shawn McGivney. It doesn't get any better than having your own Dr. and nurse taking care of your loved ones.

This is the next best thing to having your parent living in their home with 24/7 caregiving. Actually, it's better!! There are plenty of staff to assist and interact with the residents, the staff checks and documents everything daily, there are daily activities for the residents, healthy & tasty meals, and plenty of people for my mom to talk with as well as the option to retreat to her private room. What a blessing to have found this Residence.
