Employee Reviews for Harmony Senior Services in Yorktown, Virginia
1.5 out of 5 stars. Based on 4 reviews
Employees of Harmony Senior Services in the Yorktown, VA area have mixed reviews of their experience. The pros of working for the company include easy promotion opportunities and the residents being lovely. However, the cons outweigh the pros. There is high turnover, bad communication, understaffing, overworking, a dirty work environment, too much gossip, not enough team work, low pay, no hoyer lifts, and employees and managers being rude. There is also no job security and management is terrible, with frequent visits from corporate and Department of Social Services License due to lack of documentation and process for incident reports, medication errors, and lack of knowledge. Staffing issues are enormous and management does not offer any help or assistance, except to place people on the schedule without their knowing or agreement. Employees recommend going elsewhere if you enjoy the work and care about the elderly.Employee Reviews for Harmony Senior Services
3.05 out of 5 stars. Based on 410 reviews
Employees of Harmony Senior Services generally have positive things to say about the company, with many noting the great staff, fun activities, and opportunity for growth. They also appreciate the company's mission to serve families and their commitment to their residents. However, some employees have noted that the pay is not competitive for the area, there is a lack of communication between staff members, and the corporate level department heads are focused on profits. Advice to management includes hiring more employees, listening to staff needs, creating structure in the company, and addressing underlying issues.By clicking "Get Exact Costs", you agree to our Partner's Terms of Use. In my opinion it was overpriced, short staffed and very neglectful of my loved one!!! Their only saving grace is Morgan & April & one or two other staff, Who actually like their job and love people Keep your loved one at home,do whatever it takes to stay in their lives every single day
we recently moved my mother to The Crossi gs and the staff could not have been more helpful. They took time to make sure my mom was good. They checked in on her several times, came and got her for activities. Sat and talked with her in her apartment. They introduced her to other guests and helped make the first week more comforting for both my mom and us children. Special shout out to Traci! Thank you all for keeping my mom safe and with good company.
The Crossings is awesome. My 85 year old Dad and I toured 8 properties and are so glad we chose the Crossings. We were instantly impressed with the professionalism, follow up and empathy of Fredrinka (Freddy) Iyinbor, Director of Sales. We also met with Ashley Ward, memory care coordinator. Ashley designed a great program for my Dad. Deborah Brand, Executive Director also personally followed up with us. The meals (I get to eat when I visit), activities and housekeeping are A++. I can't say enough wonderful things about the Crossings.
A year ago this month my sister came to Harmony, to become her new home. Never could I have imagined that she would love it so. I want to thank ALL of the very experienced and caring employees for taking such good care of her. Harmony on the Peninsula is a very impressive facility. I would definitely recommend it for anyone looking for excellent care for their loved ones.
One year ago my brother and I did an extensive search of assisted living options in the area for our mother. Harmony on the Peninsula has been an excellent choice for her and our family - the supportive and attentive medical staff, along with a management team committed to ongoing communications during this pandemic season, made the transition a smooth one.Mom was quickly made to feel comfortable and welcomed in her new home. She has enthusiastically joined in many of the activities offered during the week (and occasionally assists in leading some of them!). Harmony on the Peninsula is a great fit for Mom as they provide us assurance that her care is a priority for the entire staff!
My mother has been on the memory care side since 8 October 2020. To our surprise she really likes it here. She has done a great turnaround compared to when she was in rehab for 7 weeks at a different facility. The staff is very friendly, a second family to my mother now. I do find that they are short staffed in the later evenings, especially on the weekends. I love the fact that I’m able to visit my mother everyday if need be which seems like I’m there everyday or every other day. My mom loves the interaction with the other residents and the hands on activities. The food looks amazing and mom says it’s delicious! She’s feed very well here...no major complaints thus far!!
My mom has been there for two years now. The place is beautiful and the assisted living apartments are nice because they are more than just one room. However, there is a high turnover of staff, I believe due to poor managements. Initially the needs of our mom were being met, but not anymore. There are usually only 2 people working the entire second floor. My mom has had to wait from 30 mins to an hour to go to the bathroom (she is in a wheelchair and on oxygen). We have cameras in her room to monitor her care, therefore we have accuracy on the timeline. Sometimes she hits her button for help to get up in the morning at 8:30 and no one is available to help her until 10 am and that is when we have had to call the front office to send someone to help her. We are now looking to move her because her needs are not being met and the cost is going up. It really is a shame, the facility is very comfortable.
The 1st impressions when you walk thru the door are very impressive. I am afraid I would never want to be there in the memory care unit. Some of the things I have witnessed have been sad. We put our love one in the week before Christmas even though it was a very hard decision her care taker needed a rest period. She walked in there and could carry on conversations even though she showed confusion. Within 2 weeks she was in a wheelchair and not really verbalizing. She had fallen a couple of times and had bruises. Now we were faced with could we handle her at home. We decided to leave her there feeling this was the best decision for her. I have been up to visit many times with her just sitting with her head down and her clothes were dirty. Soon we realized she was laying in her own waste many nights when her mattress was discovered. The staff are friendly but I don't see a lot of interaction except to tell them to sit down or go to the dining room or the TV room. We have observed that after dinner everyone is put in the TV room to babysit while the staff sits in the dining room. No stimulation after dinner which is around 4. We were there 1 night when a gentleman was trying to eat and every time he brought his spoon to his mouth it hit his clothes. There is no kitchen staff to serve so the staff is expected to serve and clean up and believe me they would not survive on their server skills. While they are serving no one is available to help the patients feed themselves or anything else. Another night someone fell out of their chair cracking his face open after rescue came to get them the only cleaning I saw was a wipe up of blood with a paper towel. This has played on my mind since I work in the medical field and expect some protocol of cleaning. The lounge chairs and furniture is stained and should be covered in material that can be easily cleaned. We have brought our loved one home for 2 weekends in a row with help from a wonderful private nurse, and our patient is trying to live again she is walking with assistance and talking. Our notice has been given to get her out of there it takes 30 days and this place is not cheap and for what is being paid a month I feel this is adult neglect. It could be a great facility if the staff took some pride in their job and showed some compassion for people suffering from memory loss. Before I ever placed a loved one in a faculty again I would make sure the place knew my concerns and let them know I am watching them.
I was very impressed with the place. It was beautiful and very clean with big rooms. The staff was very nice, and the food good with a variety of choice. My mother-in-law is very happy with her new home, she says she now has company to eat with and is making friends easily.
