Employee Reviews for Hearth in Glastonbury, Connecticut
2.53 out of 5 stars. Based on 19 reviews
Employees who work for Hearth in the Glastonbury, CT area generally have positive things to say about their experience. They appreciate the supportive Executive Director and fellow directors, as well as the positive and fun workplace culture. They also enjoy the good pay, weekly payroll, and beautiful environment. However, there are some drawbacks to working at Hearth. Family members can be demanding and disagreeable, and the stress level can be high at times. Additionally, due to low CNA pay, CNA attitudes can be poor and affect the residents' wellbeing. Furthermore, staffing levels can make it difficult to ensure the great care promised, and shifts are often mandated with forced overtime. Employees suggest that management should continue to support staff with positive reinforcement, hire additional help for the scheduler, redesign the keepsake nursing office and door system, provide LPNs assistance when multiple admissions or incidents occur, provide an RN on staff to supervise and guide, and provide CNA coverage when removing multiple CNAs off the floor for in-servicing.Employee Reviews for Hearth

Employees of Hearth Pros generally have a positive experience working with their co-workers and enjoy the flexible hours and weekly pay. However, they have complaints about the management, check mistakes, fraud, and building conditions. We are loving it here. My mom is in Keepsake Village and the care has been stellar. A few bumps at the beginning but there is an adjustment period for everyone. Update 10/12/18 Been here a few more months now and things have only gotten better. Mom has made several new friends and is participating in a lot more activities. Communication between myself and the staff is fantastic and they are always striving to improve where very little improvement is necessary. Bravo!
My mom has been a resident at The Hearth at Glastonbury for almost three years and the experience has been, in general, very good. The facility itself is immaculate and very pleasant; the building is only about 4 years old. The apartments are spacious and have large windows. The staff has been pleasant and helpful in general. My mom reported problems (verbal abuse) with one aide and the person was let go shortly thereafter. The director (Sandy) has been excellent to work with, very responsive, unfortunately she's leaving now (2019). There has been a lot of turnover in staff however I suspect this is common in assisted-living type facilities. My mom has complained about the food on occasion; I have not eaten there myself, but my brother has on several occasions and said the food was fine. The van service is handy for taking mom to medical appointments when family is unable to. I have had some frustration at trying to contact the nursing staff (unreturned phone calls, etc.), however when I have interacted with them they have been pleasant, professional and competent. In summary, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend The Hearth at Glastonbury to people searching for an assisted-living facility.
This is an excellent care facility. My mom is in Keepsake Village (memory unit) and the care is very good. She has been there since April of 2018. Everyone is very nice and helpful. I don't know what the other reviewer was referring to ( I don't work there) but Sandy and Amanda are fantastic near as I can tell. The only issues we have had are in the dining room. They are taking my suggestions seriously and adjustments are being made. I'm giving 4 stars as there can always be improvements.
Do not work here. Sandra C walks the hallways like her s don't stink. Amanda the wanna be little boss is a horrible person. They all need serious training how to speak to an employee and not down to them. Team work?? None. This is not a place to work or for your parents to live. Please go elsewhere .
First I need to say that all the staff here are wonderful, caring, and hard working, but there are too few people in every department, so it is impossible to get the help you need. When you use the buzzers they give us, there is no way to indicate if you have an emergency or just need someone to pick a piece of paper off the floor. You may, therefore, have to wait an hour or more before anyone comes to help you. The head chef works really hard to make good meals, but the food budget is so small that we mainly have ground beef, small servings of dry fish, and too much pasta, potatoes, bread, and other carbohydrates, also too much fried food.
This was a fantastic facility. My(see update below}mom had been there for over a year in Keepsake Village (memory unit) and I had nothing but good things to say about the care. Most of the staff really cares. Nowhere is perfect and to be honest there have been a few bumps in the road but management has been exceptional in their handling of the situations. We have had a few issues in the dining room but the staff is taking my suggestions seriously and adjustments are being made. That said, the CARE was very very good, the facility was pretty clean. My mom's room there is big enough to have been able to make it very homelike. I think some people think the memory unit is set up like a nursing home but they have private rooms that lock. It is very much like the Assisted Living side but with a lot more assistance and supervision.Fast forward a few months.. food is getting worse and management has changed and not for the better as near as I can tell. All management has left or been let go. Not the same place at all. Lost that friendly feeling and now everything in disarray. Look carefully at your options. Stay tuned.Update after leaving (forced out)We had to leave The Hearth because nursing insisted that my mom needed a private duty aide 24/7 (approximately $17000 per month) on top of us paying for a two person assist and a hoyer lift OR they said we should look into skilled nursing. They said they couldn't handle her aggression and combativeness during care (she weighs 110).Well we moved to The Village at Buckland Court 3 weeks ago and guess what? No aggression or combativeness and they have stopped using the hoyer lift. She is just a two person assist now. We feel like we were forced out of The Hearth for reasons we don't understand. Either they can't do their job properly or they are tremendously under staffed. It's too bad as we made a lot of friends there.Communication with management is difficult at best here. Very frustrating experience. Look elsewhere.
Very unprofessional work environment. Staff flirting with staff. Management telling other coworkers your personal business. Run! Bad pay, bad bosses. Residents are lovable. But, the job is not worth the stress nor pay. No team work. Management would rather let staff work short than to give out overtime. Worst place ever. Always infected with bed bugs. Take your parents else where. If you’re looking for a job apply else where. Should be consider a nursing home and not a assistant living facility.
*low turnover rate* are you serious??That is a bold faced LIE. Why are there so many postings for jobs?? Because the Hearth is a horrible place to work.. don't believe the hype on the website.. not true!!2 drivers have quit in the past month.. why? Because of the new activities director, Amanda. Why is that? Because she has no clue how to talk to people. She needs some serious training in communication..How was this person even hired??Higher management will also turn against you..Beware of Sandy C..Go elsewhere for work.. where you'll be appreciated and not talked down to..I give this place 0 stars!!And please don't let your parents live here..
I volunteered here a few times over the past year - my day job is an aerospace engineer over in Hartford which coincidentally the majority of residents there could relate to. A lot of the new friends I made there were actually from the aerospace industry or knows someone close to them that is. Which was awesome because they we're able to enlighten me with pro tips and really drop that old school knowledge on a dude, lol.The place was very clean and judging from how many hand sanitizer dispensers and automatic time release air fresheners they have that were strategically/conveniently located, safe to say they are big on keeping the ambience comfortable for all who stay and visit The Hearth. As for the staff , they were very warm and welcoming and made me feel at home. From what I saw, this small but power-house of a staff always went to infinity and beyond when it comes to making sure that every single person living there is cared for uniquely, while just as important, keeping them engaged by providing a boat load of activities and clubs for them to participate in and to enjoy their hard earn retirement in leisure. They have game nights, puzzle clubs, arts and craft and often go do fun things such as seeing a movie, or going to a casino or even a museum! They do outings where they get to go wine tasting or shop at the mall - the opportunities are endless.Over all experience at the place is a A+.
Wonderful place to work and proud to be a part of the team that works hard to serve seniors. Leadership works hard to provide a great place to call home for the residents and a great place to work for staff. It is really a family like environment and I am happy that my role allows me to meet with residents and families to discuss what life is like when they choose to live at The Hearth.
