Alright long overdue, have no idea why I read these reviews tonight but maybe its because at holiday time we think about the people who are longer in our lives. The staff at Aston Gardens, with few exceptions, were part of my family as they cared for my mother for the last 7 years of her life. From independant to assisted, this path is never easy but they were there. NO alf is perfect but I am thankful everyday that Aston Gardens was the facility mom picked.
Went for a tour and lunch event. Very nasty director. I would not recommend this place to anyone. We had an appointment which was confirmed and when we got there, we were treated very badly. I came with my husband to look at a retirement place. They treated us as if we came just to have lunch.I wouldn't recommend this place to a dog. There are far better places to seek out, much nicer where you are treated with dignity and respect.Stay clear of this place.
It's unfortunate that a place with great potential has to have such poor food and health care assistance. My friend who lives here is constantly getting sick from the dining room food which she has to pay for whether she eats there or not. No credit given or carried over like most places. Maybe they would have less vacancies if they monitored their restaurant more carefully.

I can’t say enough about Aston Gardens in Parkland and the excellent care that my Mom, Beulah Kaplan received during the 11 1/2 months that she lived in the memory care facility. It all started with Ana McKinney, who laughed and cried with me and went above and beyond to assist me with the move in process. Then Julie Cooper came to my Mom’s apartment to assess her and my Mom loved her and told her so at the end of the first meeting. Julie always kept me informed of any changes in Mom’s health and safety. Lori Nicolaison also went above and beyond to manage my Mom’s meds and also kept me informed of any changes. Allyson Katz did a phenomenal job of planning activities for the residents and sending me so many pictures of my Mom singing and dancing. The staff members at Aston Gardens treated my Mom with so much love, kindness and compassion. Melanie Rivera is a true professional and kept us informed with weekly updates about the residents’ vaccinations. When I had trouble signing my Mom up for the booster shot, Melanie assured me that if I was unable to complete the application, she would assist me on my next visit to complete the application online. She is a great asset to Aston Gardens. This facility could not function so well and be so successful without the great leadership of Sue Butler. Thank you all so much for making the last year of my Mom’s life so memorable and for treating my Mom like she was your own Mom. I will forever be grateful.Sincerely,Laurie Byrnes
Thank you Ana McKinney for your excellent customer service in providing me with an informed tour of the resident buildings and casual introductions to some residents along the way. Your professionalism and engaging personality made it lighthearted and fun. Great overall experience, thank you!
I was a vendor at Aston Gardens (entertainer -- violinist) and I was cheated out of $250. The executive director, Sue Butler, is an alcoholic barbarian whom was a very unprofessional and disagreeable woman. She was also verbally abusive to her activities director (the person that hired me). I am lucky that my parents are not yet that old nor feeble, but I would NEVER entrust Aston Gardens with my own family. Also, they have residents in the "independent living" area that should be in memory care!! Not safe! A woman went up to the activities director before my show to ask what city she was in. Another man was so senile that he confused the activities director for Maria Callas (a famous opera singer that died decades ago)!!Not a good environment, and run by an alcoholic executive director that likely embezzled $250 off of my check!!Do not send your relative to live here, unless you really hate them!
I want to let you know that Sue Butler and her team at Aston Gardens in Parkland has done an outstanding job in this unprecedented times. They kept mother and all my of their residents safe while giving them so much love and respect with their creative programs. Sue Butler especially is doing an outstanding job.Linda Church
Sue and her team have done a wonderful job of keeping the independent living residents safe during the pandemic. My dad and his friends are happy and well-fed. It seems that they are following the rules as things begin to open up in South Florida. Thank you for the many emails- great communication with families!
My mother has been a resident at Parkland Commons for almost 2 years and has been delighted from the first minute. Early during the Covid-19 pandemic, Aston Gardens mapped out a long-term strategy to sanitize the apartments and common areas of the facility, maintain social distancing and limit visitors to the complex. In addition, on a day-to-day basis, the management has attended to every detail of the residents' needs to insure that they are healthy, well-fed, well-informed and safe. Even though I cannot travel to visit my mother, It is a great comfort to know that she is healthy and extremely happy.
This is a nice facility with great “activities” employees And great HB front desk staff BUT it’s only level 1 care so if your parents or you have any issues with walking or long term issues that will deteriorate over time, they will give you 45 day notice, which means go find a nursing home , which means you just spent years paying 4K a month out of pocket and could have found a more transitional facility like Harbor Chase, with a level 4 care so your loved one can transition. My mother in law was at Aston Gardens for almost 4 years at the end they gave us 45 day notice and now she is in a nursing home and lost. I was not a fan of the director of nursing while he was very professional he would always say “ I support my caregivers 100%” even though the caregivers didn’t always give 100%, being honest my mother in law was not a cup of tea either but you still expect the caregivers to be kind and that was debatable. She was hospitalized 4 times, twice with stitches. Most caregivers were nice, not all. The nursing staff were wonderful, but only 3 RNs and very overwhelmed, the Dr is only in once a week so if mom has a cough your waiting till the following week or getting over the counter meds because again they only have a level 1 license. Overall my mother in laws experience was good but If I had to do it again I would choose a facility that has a higher level of care so I didn’t worry as much and she could have transitioned at the same place as needed.
Aston Gardens is a breathe of fresh air. Everyone is professional and loving. The lifestyle is just what mom needed. Attention is given to all in a pleasant , caring manner. Activities are stimulating and engaging, just the right atmosphere and lifestyle. Thank you for all you do.Nancy
