  • Watkins-Logan-Garrison Texas State Veterans Home Description

    The Texas State Veterans Home in Tyler is named after Travis Earl Watkins and James Marion Logan.
    Sergeant Watkins served in the U.S. Army 9th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division.
    Due to Watkins’ leadership, bravery and noble self-sacrifice, he was awarded the Bronze Star during World War II for meritorious action during the campaign for Guadalcanal and was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor for his actions in the Korean War.
    James Marion Logan served as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army’s 141st Infantry Regiment, 36th Division. During World War II he single-handedly captured a German machine-gun position in the first hours of the landing at Salerno, Italy.
