Employee Reviews for Holiday Retirement in Santa Clara, California
3 out of 5 stars. Based on 3 reviews
Employees in the Santa Clara, CA area generally have positive things to say about working for Holiday Retirement. They cite a competent management team with lots of resources, good benefits, decent pay, and good managerial and regional support. However, some employees have expressed frustration with the company piling tasks and procedures on without taking away those that have outlived their usefulness, as well as having too many meetings and wasting time. Advice to management is to lighten up. One employee had a negative experience, citing the General Manager as the worst person in the world who has nothing to give and is selfish and crazy.Employee Reviews for Holiday Retirement
2.81 out of 5 stars. Based on 1000 reviews
Employees of Holiday Retirement generally have positive things to say about their experience. They enjoy the residents and building staff, and appreciate the bonus structure and autonomy they are given. However, they also report issues with pay, long hours, lack of effort from upper management, and lack of growth opportunities. They suggest that management should improve benefits, hire and train good people, and be more realistic about rates. They also suggest that management should be more understanding of employees and show genuine care for them. Finally, they suggest that management should focus on the residents and staff rather than how much money they are making.By clicking "Get Exact Costs", you consent to being contacted either by My Caring Plan or our third-party partners at the phone number and contact information provided, including through the use of an automated dialer system. This place was a God send for my parents. Unfortunately, my Mother passed away only 11 days after moving in, through no fault of the facility. My Dad stayed in the 1 bedroom apartment and after getting used to a life without my Mom, he is well adjusted. This place has managers that are very kind and attentive to the residents. There are plenty of activities to keep them busy if they chose to participate and are encouraged to participate. The food is plentiful, diverse and very good. My Dad is happy there. He has the other residents to socialize with that are his generation. Also, my Dad is a WWII vet and there are plenty residents who are so they have that immediately in common. I toured lots of places before deciding on The Westmont and it's the best decision I could have made. The fact that they allow pets is a huge plus. The amenities include free use of the washer and dryer. All day snacks and beverage service, activities and twice monthly happy hour. Weekly housekeeping service. Free transportation. Computers and a small library. Nightly movies. Just to name a few. They have a lovely courtyard that is protected within the community.
To start off I am a bus driver for a rehab facility and today I was dropping off a resident who lives at the west mount, there was a mail truck and another facility truck already parked so I had to where to park but the front entrance to let the resident off. I took the residents belongings off the bus and placed them on a nearby chair, I then walked into the facility and explained who I dropped off and asked if they had a cart or something to help me bring in the belongings. The older male receptionist had me repeat my statements and then asked where I was parked. I stated I was the big bus but only needed a few moments to just relieved the items, he stated I couldn't park there because I was blocking the way. I repeated to him I only needed a moment to deliver the items and there was no where else to park. He then stated well other cars can fit through there. So I gave up, didn't state anything else and was about to walk out, but (i assume the head chef) was there through the whole exchange and stopped me before I walked out and said he had something. So once I filled my arms up with the bags and items, the chef brought me the cart. The receptionist stayed behind the desk, and didn't even offer an apology or a cart, nor did he offer to help carry the items. He only watched me load the items onto the cart and walked away. Thankfully the chef was there to lend a hand and was very helpful in the quick moment. All of this happened in less than 5 minutes, I never held up any traffic and by the time I left there wasn't any other vehicles waiting behind me. If they want the look of the Westmont to keep looking beautiful and professional, they need to change the attitude of the front of the house and help those who are helping them make their money. Even on the way out only the chef said goodbye and told me where I could leave the cart, the receptionist didn't even look at me. Thanks for the unnecessary struggle.
One of our family members has been living at the Westmont for over a year. We want to commend the management staff on its gracious care and support. A couple of specific examples: Mindy and Thomas provided a most welcome reception/move in; Frederick recently provided special assistance. Thanks to all the staff for the positive atmosphere.
I have spent a few weeks checking out Retirement / Assisted Living Communities for my Mother. This is by far the warmest most caring community that I have found. Both times that I visited, residents and staff approached us, talked to us and made us feel very welcome. They took their time in showing us around and making sure that all of our questions were answered. The rooms have lots of light and the place is bright and airy. Residents are out and about doing all kinds of activities and meal times are shared so no one is left sitting in their room alone. I rated this with 4 stars only because we have not actually lived at The Westmont. It was a difficult decision but we decided to keep my Mother in her existing home with more care in place there. I highly recommend checking out The Westmont if you are in need of a supportive and caring community for your loved one.
This place has spent the past year deteriorating. The food was once decent, the room service accommodating. All that is gone. The elevators always have issues. Now management has decided that residents are to blame for this ( see picture). It states that anyone who tries to get on the elevator after 20 seconds will be billed for elevator damages. People who live here are often in wheelchairs and walkers and often take more than 20 seconds to get on the elevator. This IS a retirement community after all. You are really going to try to bill people for being physically challenged and taking more than 20 seconds to get on an elevator?! This is completely despicable. You should be ashamed of yourself sir.
When my sister and I toured this place it seemed very nice, they certainly said all the things that we wanted to hear and were looking for but since our dad has been there the "bus lady" whose supposed to take the residents to their appointments/stores is part time and works 4 days a week, from 9AM to 1PM so sometimes she can drop them off but tells them she can't pick them up & take them back so the residents are forced to find other means of transportation, the Westmont will not hire another driver. They also do not have a lot of activities for the residents and some of the employees are extremely rude, for instance one employee by the name of Bob, I was trying to get financial assistance from VA and needed some forms filled out by the Westmont and not only was he extremely rude to me but laughed in my face in front of other Westmont employees. Also in the dining room they do not have enough help serving the residents and therefore the residents have to wait an hour or longer to get served. We regret moving our dad here!!
I suggested a friend of mine move to the Holiday Westmont assisted living center a few months ago as she can not walk around very well. I don't recommend this place for two reasons. Even though they provide 3 meals a day , the food is terrible!! They use mostly canned food and they serve it cold 90% of the time. Second of all the house keeping staff has full use of all the laundry rooms during the day and residents have to wait to use the Landry room until after 4:30. If the house keepers find your laundry in a washer or dryer during the day they turn off the machine in mid cycle or remove it from the machine even if the load is not done. They also argue with you if you catch them in the act. They are also slow to repair things in the apartments. I would not recommend this place to anyone else
My dad lived here for about 2.5 years. The management teams that live onsite are so caring. I knew he was in a safe place that was friendly and had plenty of activities. They called me whenever something was needed or to let me know if my dad needed me when his phone battery ran out and he forgot to charge it. The units are a nice size. The other residents are friendly and look out for each other. They get 3 meals a day and when he couldn't go down to the dining room after his stroke, they were very accommodative to puree his food and bring it to his room. If you want your parent to be in an affordable place with a responsive team and the ability to hire quality caregivers like the ones at EssentialCare that are there on site, consider this place. I'm so glad he moved here and grateful for all their help especially in the last few weeks of his life.
A senior citizens apartment complex on a busy street. pretty expensive, but there are tons of activities, and 3 meals a day are included. lunch is the largest meal, and they make it a 1.5 hr social function. towel service and basic cleaning (vacuuming and bathroom cursory cleaning) are also included. popcorn and coffee, and usually cookies, are always in the lobby. they have a flat screen tv in the lobby as well, showing movies, showing info about the complex, or just playing a video of burning logs in a fireplace. . smoking in your room is prohibited, but judging from the smell in some of the hallways, people do it anyway. a 2 br/2 bath unit is about $4000 a month. I believe the studio rooms are about $1900, but they rarely have openings for these smaller units. this is including no nursing/medical support at all. however, they do have lots of arts and crafts, shuttles to grocery shopping, and an on-site gym, as well as a pull cord in the bathroom for emergencies. while helping an elderly woman bathe here, a few times i accidentally bumped the pull cord, and the front desk staff rushed upstairs very quickly. the decor is not very updated. there are a lot of prints on the walls, but they are easily more than a dozen years old. the tubs are pretty small, so if you want to put a hydraulic lift in them, you won't be able to fully cover yourself with water. the santa clara masonic temple rents out a corner of the building, and they have a number of parking spaces in the underground garage as well. during the day, visitors can use those spaces, but you need a code to get into the garage. there are 2 spaces in the tiny parking lot in front, or you can park on the street.one nice benefit here is that my client's relatives were visiting from out of state, and they were able to rent an open room on the property for an inexpensive rate. this included the 3 meals and basic maid service, not bad. they have frequent informational events, and occasionally host fundraisers for veterans and whatnot, such as spaghetti dinners. there is a newsletter put out every month with events and a profile of a resident.
