This facility provides everything thing. Multiple options for housing, apartments and cottages of different sizes. A vast variety of activities including swimming, numerous exercise classes, bus trips to local entertainment. Care is provided for medical needs with staff on the premises. Attractive grounds with gardens and walking trails.
My grandma was at the healthcare center to get therapy after breaking her hip. Everyone was so nice and she rebounded so well from the injury. I appreciated Jacinda the nurse, Marie the nurse assistant, and Courtney in admissions. They went above and beyond to lessen our anxiety while my grandma was there. Courtney gave me a list of important contacts so our family would know who to contact if we had questions during her stay and told me to call her mobile anytime we needed anything. The therapists were great, especially Barry. The food was delicious too and my grandma was able to gain some weight which was needed. If she ever needs rehab again we will only go to the colonnades because they treat patients like family
I am delighted with my new life here in this welcoming, friendly senior living community. I have been able to design exactly the active, independent lifestyle that I most enjoy, all the while knowing that any assistance that I may need in the future is available right here in this beautiful setting. For me, this is "ageing in place" at its very best!
Several years ago, my wife and I stopped by The Colonnades to visit a friend. This was a couple of years after I had a stroke. I could walk with a cane, but we were living in the mountains of North Carolina and I could no longer hike, work in the yard and do many other activities I loved. As we were leaving The Colonnades, I said to my wife, “That’s a pretty nice place. I could live there.” But we, especially my wife, were not ready to leave the mountains. However, a couple of years later she got tired of chipping ice on the walk and some other things, and shocked me by suggesting we take a tour of The Colonnades and really check it out. So one of our daughters joined us, we took a tour, they put us up in one of the Guest Cottages. and we signed up the next day! We had so much going on in the mountains we did not move in for about three months. But we have been here almost five years now and love it! If you want to participate, there are all sorts of activities. Some friends visited us for a couple of days and compared living here to being on a cruise ship, but on dry land. Great food, tons of activities, field trips, everything a cruise ship has to offer. We both volunteer in The Colonnades library, use the machines in the weight room, participate in several exercise classes (I can no longer walk with a cane, so I attend “sit-to-be-fit” where most everything is done sitting in my wheel chair), I play poker, she does bingo. and there are several bridge groups. I can’t name everything, but you get the idea. There is plenty do. And transportation if you need it for doctor appointments, shopping, the movies, wherever you want to go. The people are friendly, and the staff is fantastic. Just as I said before, we’re living on a dry land cruise ship!
We are so happy to be in Charlottesville at the Colonnades. First the location is almost perfect. We still have 2 cars and find we are only a few minutes from everything in C'ville (family, hobbies, stores etc). If you want to drive less, there are cars and buses to deliver you to the door -- we have learned that this is great for going to UVA to the doctors. Basically you can get where you want in your own car and/or with Colonnades transportation. When you are home, it really seems like home. We moved from a large 2 story house (after 35 years ) and our apartment is about half the size (1,400 sq. ft) but it is bright and open and wonderful lighting -- you do not feel small. Our furniture fit in well and we are very comfortable. The kitchen is small but totally what you need to fix a lunch or breakfast or the occasional food for a guest. Main meal of the day is in the Dining Room and the food is very nice (I don't lie, it is an adjustment after cooking and making all the food choices for 50 years but the food is good and the effort -- not! No prep and no cleanup! The best part of Colonnades are the people. They are "experienced" -- they have been great places and done interesting things and they continue to do so. They are nice to talk to and welcoming. Almost all are happy and still involved fully in life. If you are nice, you will find people that are nice to spend time with. Lots of activities but you are also free to do your own thing -- participate or not. The opportunities are here to fashion the rest of your life to your specifications. If you need more care at some point, you will get the support and facilities right here on campus. We are among the youngest here -- I am so glad we have made our move and finished the work of home ownership while we were in charge. The only one happier is our family who know we chose where we wanted to be and are living the good life as defined by us. Join us.
