My mother was at Poet's Walk. In the beginning it was good, in fact almost excellent. Then staff and management became complacent with care. Laundry stacked up, toilets backed up, floors were dirty, food requirements were not met. I took pictures of these items and still have them. Was told they would be handled, then it happened again and again. The activity schedule was a joke. It states the same every week. We were told activities were based on mental capacity of residents. I personally observed a resident trying to eat a checker off a game board. Had to find someone to get it out of his mouth as activity personnel didn't observe what was happening, they were in the director's office chatting. Some care givers were excellent, others just filled a position and ignored the residents. Once COVID hit it was a mess. Dementia patients locked it their rooms with no contact. This is contrary to everything about dementia patients. It took almost 3 months to do a zoom or FaceTime call. Reason not enough staff.. Only 15 minutes per family, only once a week. Try explaining to a loved one you haven't deserted them. The rooms were not maintained, laundry stacked up during the lockdown. Residents not provided adequate assistance to eat, needed to finish fast as not enough workers. For a facility "specializing" in memory care they were totally ill-prepared, not just every day but much worse during COVID. They allowed outsiders to tour the place, but not family to see their loved one. All about the money. Ask for information or need data the answer is always "my pleasure" or "I'm on it" and nothing gets done. Definitely not recommended for the cost. We were scheduled to move my mom when she passed away, almost $7000 a month and the care was sorely lacking.
If i could give this place 0 stars, I would. I used to be employed there, and there is nothing but bullying and threats amongst certain caregivers. I was 7.5 months pregnant when I was forced to quit my job because i felt unsafe working with certain people there. HR asked me to stay and that they would fix the problem. I knew they wouldn't fix the problem because they never follow through with what they are going to do, because the people that threatened and bullied me are still employed there til this day, and one of them is family of HR, so that's why she isn't being fired. I have been trying to get unemployment because I was physically unable to come back to work due to being in fear of who I was working with and the threats that were made. And nothing has been done. Also when i was an employee there, I never got hazard pay working there during the pandemic. They only gave it to people who worked 10 days in a pay period.
My rating would be minus 5 if there was one. My mother was there for 5 months. Poets Walk, and Mark Shaffer are in the business of making money, not memory care. They have a vast turnover in help. Care partners are taking care of, at times, more than 8 residents each, and more often than not, work double shifts. Mark only cares about turnover and will promise you everything to get you in the door, once in, it's onto the next victim. $2000 just to walk in the door. I often found my mom in wet pants, afraid to drink water because she didn't want to sit in wet pants. She needed to have her food cut, paying $500 extra a month for level two care, and rarely had that happen. Residents, due to being hungry, picking up their food and chewing it like animals. In fact, Mark treated his dog better than the residents. They promise you bed alarms alert when a resident gets out of bed, not true. They could not or would not tell me that information. Mom fell, four times while there, and of course, no record of alarm alerting them. In Marks own words told me when he sees me walk in the door he sees his "mortgage payment". I had to hear about mom throwing up, from other residents, nurses, did not tell me. Heather Tussing of Spring Hills, Vice President of Assisted Living Operations, at their corporate office, tells me she stands behind the services they provide. I told her that was just it, "services, were not provided". Mom was evicted from Poets Walk because I held them accountable. I was told by Mark Shaffer, in front of the states Abudsman, that, if I wanted information about moms care, or to view video of the hall, to see how often she was checked on, the night mom fell, that I would need a subpoena. Knowing the whole time, how long that would take. It was easier to have us go away, instead of handle the problem. Mom is 82 years old, was alone in her room, fell, crawled across the floor, in pain, scared, trying to get help, no one checked on her till morning, and they couldn't open the door because she was on the other side, on the floor, blocking it. NO ONE CHECKED ON HER ALL NIGHT. They claim they claim to have information of the alarm going off the day before and the day after, but no recorded information the day of her fall. How convenient. Trust me, they did us a Huge favor, but not before taking moms money. It's head em up and move em out, literally. Unless of course you happen to die first. Spring Hills, Poets Walk, and mostly Mark Shaffer should be ashamed of themselves. Mom needed level two care, paid dearly monetarily and physically. I only have one thing to say to Mark Shaffer, "Karma".
Created as an expert in memory care, Poet's Walk excels in their mission of respect and dignity for all residents. Residents are living a very social life with the engagement staff. The care staff are empathetic and loving to the residents. The true compassion of the staff is heartwarming and when there is a problem it's addressed quickly, empathetically, and professionally.
When you think of total kindness, competency and genuine care, the folks at Poet's Walk Henderson fit this as perfectly as any care giving agency ever could. Patty, Mark and team are quite special people and if you're looking for a place for care, please talk with these folks. They're absolutely amazing and you can have peace of mind their interests are aligned with yours. Not to mention, they have the guidance, skill, experience and environment for everything you'd want your loved one to have.
We moved my mom there after years in actually a more expensive facility in Florida to be near family. I hated the facility in Florida, and after my experience in Florida, I was amazed at how much better Poets Walk was.Poets Walk was wonderful! Their director, Mark is incredible, he greeted my mother, he would make food in the dining room, dancing and singing to the residents. An organization takes its cue from management, and management is kind, has a huge heart, and a strong work ethic.Kind of cool, close by is a nice art gallery, three restaurants, so you have places to take elderly people in wheelchairs without a big deal. What more can I say? They were loving to my mother when times were bad.Thank you, Mark and all the compassionate staff at Poets Walk.
My husband was diagnosed with Dementia over Christmas. I tried to take care of him at home for several months. I wasn't sleeping as he also got up at night and was doing things that weren't safe. I found mention of Poet's Walk Henderson for Dementia Care. Our family went up to LV to check out if this was a good fit for his care. It was more than a good fit! They really care about everyone. You can feel the warmth and love given out to all of the residents. My husband wanted to stay and he is participating in all of the activities they provide. I cannot say how grateful I am to have our prayers answered They have a 24 hr Nursing Staff and an excellent Physician. We were able to leave him in their care and know he is safe and happy.
The facility seems to have a big problem with communications. It usually takes about three days before I can get my mother on the telephone. I have to call about once a day for about three days before they patch me through to my mother. I send my mother mail and they do not give it to her. Very disappointed with the response time.

Our Mom has been at Poets Walk for two years now. We are grateful for the care that is provided by all the staff. They activity programming is exceptional and the caregivers have been so wonderful and we really appreciate them. It's heartbreaking to watch Mom go thru this horrible time, but we are fortunate to have her in a wonderful facility. Thank you Poets Walk.
My sister recently passed away at this community. I am very grateful for the wonderful care, exceptional compassion and genuine assistance that was provided to her by the remarkable employees ( I think they call them care partners). They also allowed for her to keep her pet dog with her in her apartment, something no other community would allow. I will always remain grateful for all they do.
As a former director here I must say that the owner and executive staff that is back in New Jersey do not come out and inspect the building and staff as they should. The executive director at this home is the worst I have ever worked for and is a lair.He will pay his friends an staff members to put up fake reviews to make himself look good. If I have anything to say about the care staff it would be they are forced to work long hours and spead very thin, over worked and under payed for what they do and for who they have to report to. I believe his name was Mark he will lie straight to you face an promise you whatever you want.just to get your loved one to move in.STAY AWAY FROM HERE!!!!If you to choose to take a tour make sure you talk to the employees that are there and they will tell you the truth.
I was referred to Poets Walk by a health care professional. I just toured them last week. I am so impressed with what they do at this facility that I am somehow feeling like we might just get through this whole thing. The facility has many windowed areas and much sunlight shining through creating a warm and upbeat feeling. There are large open areas for gathering in groups and also some tinier more secluded areas where you can sit and reflect in quiet. The director Mike gave me a tour and introduced me to many employees and a few residents. I was able to sit in the dining room after lunch and speak with a few residents that may become friends with my Dad. It is important that my Dad have people to socialize with so I am grateful Mike let me linger about for some time. Gave me confidence in their operations and management.
I’ve had my Grandpa in Poet’s Walk for nearly two years. With all full time care facilities, it has areas that they are really strong in, and areas that they are continuing to improve in. My Grandpa is happy though, and he is still conversational and gives me reports on his care partners and other residents that he interacts with. The admin team works really hard to foster a work environment where their care partners are encouraged to spend time on their shift sitting with residents, playing games, or watching an old movie together. This is 5-star worthy. There is one area that the team at Poet’s Walk is still working at improving, and that is keeping the laundry/trashes emptied over and over all day long, so that the facility looks and smells as fresh as it actually is. The important part of my experience, if you yourself are looking for a facility for a loved one, is that my Grandpa is treated well, and Mark, their director, moves mountains to keep finding the best of the best to hire, and he really does find staff that will take good care of the residents. The doctor is great, Cory the head of maintenance is great, and will take time to try to help residents fix their belongings, the kitchen does a pretty good job, and they have activities going all day long, every day. Poet’s Walk has a good feel, friendly staff, and treat their residents well.
We had already made a deposit at a facility and were preparing to move our family friend the next week. A nurse at the hospital suggested we look at Poets Walk as an alternative. We are so very glad we did. The Poets Walk is amazing. Not just for the new building and how clean and bright it is but really for the people who work there. They are spot on incredible and they take care of everything for our friend. She is very happy at Poets Walk and we are happy to have found them!
We looked at multiple facilities as we searched for a place that could help me with my husbands memory issues. Many of the places we looked at were very good, but Poets Walk was exceptional. The place is very clean and well lit, very bright and with a positive energy. They have a "Main ST' where the residents spend most of their day keeping busy with things that have meaning to them. They have an artist nook, an ice cream shop, they walk dogs (the house dog is an old white dog named Markle that is very endearing) in the outdoor grassy courtyard and all the staff that we met, and we met many, were very kind and courteous. What a wonderful place. I just hope I can convince my husband to move here as I know he will love it and they will take great care of him. Very compassionate people.
My aunt lived at this memory care facility for 6 months. Initially, we had some minor concerns. We met repeatedly with the staff including the executive director to discuss our concerns. Initially the staff heard our concerns but nothing improved. As time went on the staff stopped honoring our request for meetings. We ultimately moved my aunt to another facility close by and have a much better experience.
