Employees at Blue Harbor Senior Living in Scottsdale, AZ have mixed reviews. Some employees have experienced a lack of respect from corporate managers and a shallow attitude that prioritizes filling beds over the needs of the residents. Other employees, however, have found the management team to be focused on the health and wellbeing of the residents and the building to be recently renovated and beautiful. Advice to Management:You need to hire a director that will actually care about the residents and the employees, not just the bottom line. Stop micromanaging and let your employees do their job. Provide proper training and actually give raises when they are promised. Respect your employees and the residents.By clicking "Get Exact Costs", you consent to being contacted either by My Caring Plan or our third-party partners at the phone number and contact information provided, including through the use of an automated dialer system. Beware!New owners! This assisted living home has changed owners.I had an Aunt that lived there before and after Covid. The new owner, Truwood by Merrill, lost most of their valuable employees. The prior company was acceptable but not Truwood Merrill.List of constant problems and issues:- high turn over of employees- terrible food and can’t be eaten. Will make relatives sick.- managers frequently changed- housekeeping is not once a week. Place not clean. Dirt and filth under bed.- food might be acceptable in mornings but awful for lunch and dinner.- bedding not changed- night time caregivers do not respond. They will make your family wait longer than 30 minutes for help. Sometimes longer!- night time is the worst time there! Numerous times over several months the staff would not respond.- they charge extras but don’t perform the services like bathing and personal grooming- raised prices but don’t perform the services- there are a couple of remaining older employees but not worth staying there- Depends, bathroom supplies, toilet paper disappear! Constantly buying more because staff could not explain reason supplies vanish.Conclusion.1). Over priced2). Your family will not get the proper care3) you won’t get the services you paid for3) food is bad qualityRecommendationCompare many and focus on a smaller home environment.- Merrill makes money on volume not quality- smaller facilities or group homes are more money but worth it.- do you want your family living in a smaller clean group home of 10 or a Merrill hotel like place with 80! Ask how many people live there!- Merrill charges @$4,000 vs a home about $4,500.- Merrill caregiver ratio is not accurate. They don’t have 1 to 10. Impossible.- Merrill pays their staff less than group home.- the quality of food and service is dramatically different.- smaller home will be cleaner. Bedding changed. Bathroom clean- you don’t need a private bathroom- Merrill’s nurses are not worth it! They can’t give shots or IV. A small home can do the same service.Don’t let Merrill sell you on the size and number of employees. Smaller home better.Medicare and new laws help with the cost of home health care.Don’t make my mistake a regret not finding a small facility for a little more. Finally, get a good broker that know group homes and smaller facilities. Don’t get sold on large hotel places like Merrill.SincerelyConcerned Relative
This facility is amazing. My parents moved in on Nov. 4th. The next day my dad had to be taking to the hospital and the day after that, my mom was taken to the hospital. My parents weren't even in their apartment 24 hours and the staff was asking how they could help me. Once my parents came back, once again they wanted to do all they could to help. They are AMAZING. Their apartment is very nice, the food is excellent and as I have said, the staff is amazing.
Always has the Best Receptionist and Welcome Center, the Activity director really has the Residents Focused and active throughout the day.The place is clean and everyone just seems the enjoy they’re work while being there. Parking is easy accessible. They have a fabulous fitness program for there residents which really adds value to our loved ones getting a great quality lifestyle.
An older friend of mine lives here, she spoke highly of this community and was excited to share with me her experience thus far. Being the "seeing is believing" kind of person I am & after a few visits with her it became clear as to why she loves it so much.Staff has become family in a truly caring way, the food looks and smells amazing. It's a very clean and a homey place for my dear friend to call home, I have do doubt she made the right choice to live there. Well done staff & facility. Five star all the way.
Truewood by Merrill is such a breath of fresh air. Upon arrival to the community, I was greeted by a friendly staff that was eager to assist. The residents were playing a game of Cornhole, and laughing while cheering each other on. To see residents engaged and having a good time is truly a good feeling. What a great community!
Im Candice Bolduc with Mobile Dentistry of Arizona. A Mobile Dental company owed by Ann Ross . We had the opportunity today to attend there vendor fair and it was great. Desert Flower is a well liked senior living community with all levels of care. The staff is caring and always look out for their residents. We recommend their community. Im a health care provider there and know that they want to bring in different services there for the benefit of the residents.
Sad. Negative review.Unfortunately, this review is negative. The prior company was sold and there have been too many changes that are negative for families and residents. Covid issues are one thing but mega corporations owning nursing homes with a focus on profits is too difficult to ignore. I could detail the list but she is still there and won’t leave. She is unable to change at her age so we just monitor and pray for the best.I wish I could recommend a few assisted homes but I can only give you some advice. I wish we inspected and shopped around. Too late.My advice and questions:Shop around. A lot. This is a pain but you have to to it.Compare A lot!Inspect. Everything.Take family with you. Or a friend. More eyes and questions are better.Ask a lot of questionsRead the contract carefullyNote yearly auto increasesNote the small additions. They add up quick.Understand the levels.Food is critical. Change in chefs can be terrible.Food significantly affects health. How many floor staff per resident?Any filed complaints? How many covid deaths? They probably will not tell you. Most nursing homes had some and they don’t reveal. They hate to admit covid deaths at facility. Obvious point but family should know. Why not?How often or turn over in staff? Are they using temps? Temp agency? For what? What is deposit? Refundable? Negotiable? What is termination fee?No carpet. Trips occur. Hardwood pergo flooring clean and no tripping.Television included?Telephone?Detail in contract how many times clean room?Wash cloths? Weekly? How long has management been there?Who owns it? Mega Equity Company? Probably.Finally.Please remember that nursing homes are money makers. Cash flow. This is reason big Wall Street Equity Companies own them. Hundreds of them. Our elderly loved ones and family generate cash. Easy cash.So don’t be aft to ask questions! Your paying the bill so they should answer.
My name is Sam,and i am a tree trimmer.I trimmed trees at Desert Flower 6 months ago, I am still waiting to be paid!!! IN the past 6 months i have called there no less than 20 times, each time i was told a different excuse and promised i would be called back .I was never called back not even 1 time. I sure hope they care for people better than they pay there bills.
Rebecca and Stephanie are such knowledge nurses! The community itself is very nice especially the dining area. I also really like Paul the activities director. Easy to talk to and really enjoys his job. Bayada Home Health is going to have a space in the building according to my tour and that’s great news for my Mom.
I was so pleased how well the staff in the memory care section of Desert Flower assisted my father during his short time he was there until his passing. The staff was dedicated in my fathers care and making sure he was comfortable. I would highly recommend Desert Flower for your loved one.
