Employee Reviews for Commonwealth Senior Living in Charlottesville, Virginia
3.24 out of 5 stars. Based on 21 reviews
Commonwealth Senior Living in the Charlottesville, VA area has generally positive reviews from employees. They appreciate the company's commitment to their core values and the sweet elderly population they serve. They also enjoy the flexible work schedules and casual dress in the home office. However, there are some criticisms of the high turnover, company politics and gossip, and tension between the marketing department and operational staff. Additionally, employees feel that the health benefit package is costly and there is minimal paid time off. They also feel that the senior leadership needs to do better at living the core values and that the office space needs to be more private. Employees also feel that they are overworked and underpaid, and that the overheads are rude and bossy. Advice to management includes continuing to listen to team members, investing in human capital, and keeping up the good leadership.Employee Reviews for Commonwealth Senior Living
2.83 out of 5 stars. Based on 338 reviews
Overall, employees of Commonwealth Senior Living have mixed reviews. Many report that the company was great about 5 years ago, following their own core values, but that support has dropped off in the last two years. Employees also report that the new generation of management is not supportive, and that they are often held accountable for things they were given approval for. Other complaints include lack of communication, overworking, low pay, and poor management. Employees praise the residents and some of the staff, and suggest that management should follow their own core values, be more supportive, and show more appreciation.By clicking "Get Exact Costs", you agree to our Partner's Terms of Use. I was looking for a place to put my husband who has dementia and after caring for him for about 9 years at home I realized I needed help. After looking at a few places in Charlottesville, I found Commonwealth had the room space I needed since I would be there with him everyday. They told all the things that they offered and what they would do to fix the room as I wanted to make me feel that he was safe there. I moved him in the middle of June, after about 2 weeks I took him out because they had not lived up to their promises. Crazy me I took him back. It only got worse. They have one lady that lived there that took most of the staffs time, she touched about all the forks, knives and cups put on the tables, she would try to fight staff or throw them at them if they tried to stop them. They let everyone do their thing without letting staff correct them. I went 3 days in a row and they didn't even know which room or where my husband was. Some mornings he wouldn't even get the right amount of meds if I wasn't there. The cleaning was a joke, I told them not to come back I would clean myself. They are really short on staff, the staff never seemed to communicate with each other. I ended up having to pay a medicine bill for $97 that I never approved since I delivered all my husbands meds from home delivery, I was told every month they would take care of it and never did. It took me about 3 months to get with I was promised when I signed up there. Yes, I or my son was there everyday from about 9am to 6:30pm and I did everything for my husband because the staff couldn't hardly keep up with the others with all the other duties they had that had nothing to do with patient care except giving them the food furnished and cleaning up dining area. I would not recommend this place for anyone that cares about their loved ones when they can't do for themselves. Biggest mistake I ever made.
My mother was independent living resident. They promised us a daily check in program to check on my mom if she didn't check in with them each day. They failed to do what they promised and my mother almost died because they left her trapped in bed for four days. She had no food, no water and was forced to soil herself. I FOUND HER BECAUSE THE STAFF DIDN'T DO THEIR JOB. The arbitrator in our lawsuit wrote that the incident was one which caused my mom "immeasurable injuries, physical pain, mental anguish, humiliation, embarrassment and inconvenience." My family confidentially place my mother at CSL Charlottesville after her 1.5 yr struggle with dementia. The Administrative Team there could not have been more personal. They were professional AND real. Their dedication was overtly evident. Mom was there a month prior to the recent covid infiltration. My wife and I are RNs of 31 years and had worked in the ICU during the first covid wave for 9 months. We know first hand all the challenges, strain, and harsh realities the labor shortage and this virus brings. We also know what heroes look like. We saw them at CSL! The "We Care" moto was clearly present and in action through their dedication to care for these beautiful residents. Leadership stepped up and stepped in along side the amazing staff. They did their absolute best. My mother did pass during her time there, due to other medical factors. My family could not be more proud of the entire team that stuck it out. No regrets of bringing her there. I could continue for pages with details of our faith in this team. We know the physical and emotional exhaustion they were feeling but they did not show it to the residents or my family. God brought us to CSL, knowing the upcoming situation. It was as an answer to my family's prayer to truly care for mom. AND THEY DID! We are very grateful. I recommend CSL Charlottesville to whomever we can tell.
