Just because you need a little help doesn't mean life can't still be wonderful. The goal of our Assisted Living care team is to give residents everything they need to remain independent and active. Our person-centered approach means that we provide care tailored to not only individual needs, but also personal likes and dislikes.Skilled Nursing
You're reading this because you want to live somewhere with good Skilled Nursing care in case you ever need it. If that day arrives, you'll be in a familiar place surrounded by the people you know and trust. Our wonderful Independent Living residents love spending time with their friends at the Lee Center, and they've developed great relationships with the caring staff who work there.Dining
We begin with recipes that are handmade and chosen specifically to highlight the freshest seasonal fruits and vegetables from local farms. We buy the freshest local seafood, eggs and meats. We hand-brine the meats to give them a rich distinct flavor, making sure to set aside a portion for our residents who need lower sodium dishes. By brining the meat ahead of time, we can control the amount of salt that goes into each dish, ensuring that everyone can enjoy a delicious meal. A meal shared with good friends is the best way to fuel your soul.Price Comparison

I worked there many years ago, as part of the maintenance staff, and it was an outstanding place to work. It was a pleasure to provide care for the Residents, and they were great people to know. So many different people of so many walks of life. One resident was Robert A. Heinlein's sister, The Author that I had grown up with ready all his works. Then I can't say for sure but at least one Nobel Prize winner. All interesting people to know.
Where to begin. Covid has been a scary time for my parents, both of whom (separately!) live at Channing House. I am so impressed by the seriousness of the leadership at Channing House. They set the tone for this independent, non-profit retirement home. The staff from top to bottom has done a Herculean (and Sisyphusian) task of keeping residents and staff safe. The communication has been **daily** with outside family, including emails, voicemail blasts when necessary, and a weekly update by the head of Channing House via Zoom with all residents and family that wish to participate. The staff is working so hard and so effectively and sensitively to keep everyone healthy, comfortable, and well cared for. They are surrogates for all of us family who cannot be there in person. I will be eternally grateful to them for everything.
My parents have lived at Channing House for 17 years and have been SO well taken care of (by the Channing House staff) and SO happy (with the community). Moving into Channing House was the best gift my parents ever gave me. I do not worry about them ever, and when I visit (which is every other day) I get to spend ALL my time visiting instead of fixing leaky faucets or running errands. Channing House is extremely well run by Mel (the "new" manager). The food is fantastic. The staff is caring and professional in all departments (house cleaning, nursing and health, dining, maintenance, front desk, exercise classes, etc.). Dr. Davidson (the in-house doctor) is THE BEST. My parents get daily exercise, daily socializing, 3 excellent meals a day, as much recreation and intellectual stimulation as they want including weekly organized excursions, and there are dozens of eyes to watch them, ensuring that they are safe and doing well.My parents both started off in independent living, but my Mom's health deteriorated so that for her final 5 years she was in the skilled nursing care wing. One of the wonderful things about Channing House is that my Dad could visit my Mom any time he wanted with just an elevator ride; he could eat meals with her when he wished; he could even check her out of the skilled area and take her to enjoy the views and the walk-around-path on the 11th-floor outdoor roof-top. And he continued to live in and enjoy all of the privileges and freedoms of independent living. Life care is the way to go! I plan to move into such a place in my mid-70s.
I see that the previous review is from a vendor. He mentions that the residents love it, and this is true. The location is incredible - just a couple of blocks from downtown Palo Alto. Residents can walk to shops and dining. Food is great, views are great, lots and lots of activities to keep the mind and body active and healthy. To be able to live here is to be very very lucky.
Clearly one of the best retirement communities in the area, our mother lives there and loves it. Naturally this comes at a high price but she's certainly earned it and with what we put her through as children im happy that there is a place nearby she is willing to stay in that allows me in to see her when I can.
