This is the best place for people with memory issues. The place is beautiful, the staff are wonderful, the food is great. My mom lives there. If your loved one can't live at home, what a great environment. Lots of activities every day. And very welcoming to family members. If I get dementia, I would live their in a heartbeat.....
The staff is wonderful, all are kind, caring, and extremely knowledgeable. Before I signed the lease, all costs and aspects of care were thoroughly explained in an easy to understand manner. The facility itself is not what I expected. Upon my arrival, I thought I was at the wrong place. From the outside it looks more like a very nice motel than a longterm care facility. The interior is even better, it's bright, airy and all on one level. The rooms are quite pleasant, roomy, nicely furnished with large windows. I feel that my wife is now in the best possible place for her longterm care.
Team Avita! Everything we've come up against, had always been guided by this great, creative, funny, and loving staff! Rosie, being the one who met with me first, pulled me right out of the zone of indifference, and we haven't looked back since! She and Matt Tremblay have gone above and beyond to accommodate both parents.xo. Wendy and Angela are crafty in handling situations sensitively. Again... THANK YOU!
I truly love Avita and have since I moved my Mom and Dad into the Stroudwater Avita from Stroudwater Lodge. The care and detail to my parents needs were always top notch. My brothers and sisters all became family with their employees and felt cared for as well. I learned so much and wanted to be part of the Northbridge family on a more helpful level and be able to help other families the way my family was helped. I am happy to say that I was able to to join the team at Avita if Wells over a year ago as their Director of sales and have loved being a part of this amazing family. I am so thankful to have this opportunity to be able to be that resource to others and share our community with them.
In November of 2020, after the passing of our father, we were faced with the reality that our mother, who has dementia, could not live on her own and needed around the clock care. Avita of Wells was recommended as the best place in our area for long term, memory care, and we have been so thrilled with how this transition has gone over the past two months. To make a decision like this, during the best of times is hard enough. But to have to do this during COVID, knowing how little we would be able to see her, made it so much harder.Lisa, our sales person, was attentive, thorough and responsive during the investigation and decision making process. We would send her scores of questions each day, and none of them were left unanswered. Another reason why Avita of Wells was a great option was their amazing record of no COVID cases since the pandemic started last spring. They test their staff and residents regularly and managed to keep life fairly normal inside the community for the folks who live there. They allowed us to tour the facility in person (with all COVID precautions in place of course), and they allowed weekly in person visits which was a huge plus as most places were doing video tours and not allowing any in person visits. On our first visit we met most of the senior leadership team who took time to learn about our mother and address all our questions and concerns. When Matt, the Head Chef, knows as much about dementia care as Era, the Resident Care Director, you know you are in a special place.Days before move in, Avita of Wells had their first case of a resident testing positive for COVD during their routine testing, which changed our ability to move Mom in ourselves. We had to literally drop her stuff at the door and leave it to the staff to set up her room and settle her in, and what a wonderful job they did. We got many facetime calls from the staff the first few days, showing us Mom’s room and making sure we were happy with how everything was set up for her. But more importantly, we had wonderful, thorough, kind, thoughtful and compassionate communication from all members of the staff about Mom’s adjustment and how she is doing. Some staff members gave us their personal cell phones to text them at any time. Others will send random emails, texts and photos just sharing a story about something Mom did one day, or what they are observing and how they are helping her when she is “pleasantly confused.” Less than two months into this massive transition, our mother is doing so well, making friends, engaging in the daily activities in the community, and always telling us how wonderful the folks are there who take care of her. The staff sit and look at her photo albums with her, they take the time to listen to her when she is feeling sad about the loss of her husband of 60 years, they help her stream mass from her home church on her iPad, they know that she likes orange marmalade on just about everything, and they are compassionate, kind and loving to her. They are the stand in family for us right now, while we can’t be with her and we are so at peace that she is in wonderful hands and being well cared for.We hope these details of our experience of transitioning your loved one to long term care in these crazy, difficult times, will help you as you make your decision. And we can say with confidence that the staff of Avita of Wells have gone above and beyond our expectations to help make this transition as smooth as possible for our mother as well as for us.
My wife’s grandmother has lived at Avita of Wells for about two years. Pre-COVID, we would visit and always be warmly welcomed by the staff and residents. We especially appreciate how hard the staff work to create special events for residents and their families, such as a Polar Express Night, visit from Santa, and Halloween Night. The staff also takes the time to recognize residents individually with their newsletter, social media, and “Member of the Month” event, where staff work with families to create a special slideshow about their loved one and invite family and friends to a small ceremony. Avita of Wells truly works hard to create a sense of community not just for residents but their families.
My mom lived at Avita Wells for over 2 years and received wonderful care. The team actually cares about the people who live there. Now my aunt is dealing with dementia and I am so fortunate that she will be able to move to a place that provides the care and assistance that she needs. It's not easy dealing with dementia clients, but I have seen nothing but love and support provided to the residents from the staff at Avita.
My Mom is living at Avita and this place is awesome!!! This is a dementia care only home and the activities are designed around keeping the residents engaged throughout the day, therefore stimulating their brains and slowing down the progression of dementia. We have no regrets with Mom living here!!
Our experience with Avita has been wonderful; every staff member cares for Dad with great gentleness, compassion, and respect for who he is, designing his day around his interests and what he finds meaningful or fun. He is safe and well-cared for. What's more, the staff there support and care for us--his family--in every way we need help during his move-in and during difficult decisions. Their compassionate and frequent training, too, makes them the most knowledgable memory care facilities around. Highly recommend!
The Team at Avita of Wells is one of the most welcoming group of people I have had the honor of knowing. You walk into the building and are immediately greeted by Wendy and her cheerfulness. As you walk around the building it is apparent that the Residents are well taken care of by Rosi and her Team; and maintain their purpose through Angela and her programming. The Community is well taken care of, Associates are smiling. Anyone would be lucky to have their loved one have this be their home.
I worked there one night and found a lot of problems with staff not knowing what to do if situations arised and a few did and how to care for someone is need of training your staff correctly and watching a video on how to do this for 3 minutes does not do it, and get hospice to train people on how to take care of a person that is on hospice and lifting a person with a hoyer lift needs to be address.
As a therapy provider, I get to work with many assisted living communities. Avita of Wells is one of the BEST facilities in Maine. The PEOPLE make the difference. The team CARES and the residents are well taken care of. The facility is beautiful, always spotless and very inviting. The neighborhoods are just the right size. The activity director is amazing and residents are provided with activities that are engaging and meaningful.-Kuddos Avita of Wells for the care excellence you provide!
