I had a bilateral knee replacement on November 5th at MJH and after three days I went to AHRC. I took it upon myself to tour this facility the day before my  surgery and I am really glad I did. When I saw the equipment and the rooms available I knew that this was where I should go. They offer one on one physical and occupational therapy. The first day I was there I was shown how to shower and dress myself using equipment they had available for putting on your socks and shoes, things you take for granted. The bathrooms and bedrooms are large and private. The gym with amazing physical therapists have the latest equipment. There is a treadmill that takes up to 80% of your body weight off of you when you get up into a suit and you can see yourself walk with a camera. They put you on the nu bikes first thing to warm up your muscles and then work on the exercises to get your knees to start to work the way they are suppose to. Most of all they watch that you stand straight and walk properly. You work on your core and keep your head up. You learn to climb stairs safely. There are all sorts of things I leaned about posture and walking that I had been doing wrong. After three weeks of therapy twice a day, I actually walked out of that facility without a cane! Of course, I worked like a dog but those therapist were my personal trainers. One other thing. During my stay, I developed bronchitis. The nursing staff nursed me through it. I was short of breath and sick a dog. The administrator, Mark Tubbs, was on top of the medical team to make sure I got the medication I needed to treat the bronchitis and he looked in on me every day. The only reason I didn't give this facility t5 stars is because the food and coffee wasn't stellar. The food depended on who was cooking. A guy named Harris cooks in the evening and his food is good. The desserts were always good. You could always ask for ice cream or peanut butter crackers or cookies if you were hungry, or you could always call the College Inn and have your food delivered. I complained so much about the coffee that Mark Tubbs brought me a latte from Starbucks, that's how nice he was! If you are considering getting your knees replaced, take advantaged of the medicare payment for rehab, go over and get a tour of this place with the admissions guy and you will see what I am talking about. It is really a great place. The staff are kind and helpful and really love their patients. The physical therapy team is top notch. I cannot say enough about them. u

Very concerned about the commercials locally on our TV stations advertising Chville rehab and Albemarle rehab.  Neither of these facilities look like this OR act like this.  It is not what it seems.  A family member was in one of these facilities and the advertisement is false.  Family member did not have rehab 7 days a week and no one had a patio at facility. Many of the PT people were busy socializing and family member was left for hours without attention to needs.  I would not recommend either place and please be more realistic about your facility when advertising. It's not fair to the public.

Acting out of anguish, is not always a positive thing. After speaking with the facility, Items (trash) were forwarded from UVA Charlottesville Hospital with my Dad to this Rehab Ctr. I do apologize to Albemarle Health and Rehab, for my original post. My problem is with UVA Hospital, Charlottesville.

My dearest friend was admitted to Albemarle Health and Rehabilitation Center (AHRC) when she was discharged from the hospital and recovering from pneumonia.  They had nothing ready when my friend was admitted.  They had none of her medications, and they didn't have a denture cup to clean her dentures.  My friend had to put her dentures in a cup with water when she went to sleep.  In the morning when my friend awoke, her dentures were gone.   She subsequently lost 14 pounds over the next two weeks because she was not able to eat.  AHRC has done nothing to remedy this loss.  My friend's dentures cost $8000.  They were post dentures and use the same basic technology as implants.  She can't wear regular dentures now because she has posts in her gums. AHRC has offered to reimburse her only $350 dollars, the cost of an extremely cheap (and likely ill fitting)  standard dentures that she can't wear. The cost of replacing my friend's dentures is $4000.  She lives on an extremely limited income and does not have that kind money.  Shame on you AHRC, your negligence has left an impoverished and vulnerable 78 year old woman toothless, in tears, and unable to eat.

My husband was in this facility and in the first 20 days the bed linens were never changed. The billing also mis led me and stated they will do a financial screening then asked directly, then lied when our stay was extended, with the initial billing rep no longer employed. (How convenient) Staff is misleading on billing.Basically my husband stated this facility is a dirty hotel and having a large stain on carpet in his room.Do not recommend this rehab.

The facility is relatively new to the area. It has gone through some management transitions and very hard time in 2020. But at this time they are doing a great job at caring for their patients despite the staff shortage experienced at all health care facilities. Cudos to the nurses and especially the rehab team. Awesome job!!!
