My father passed away here a month ago. When I called to ask a few questions, I got the most rudest experience with all the staff. From being hung on 7 times, cussed at, laughing about my fathers death, and lies from different stories. It hurts so bad to know that they would hire such terrible people to help our loved ones. I wouldn’t even rate this facility a one star. My justice is yet to come because there will never be closure to my family. 💔😭
My mother had an excellent experience here. Staff were caring, very supportive and encouraging. She progressed more quickly through rehab because of the great support. Huge thank you to staff, nurses, doctors. A very positive experience and perfect transition between hospital and home.
Basically it’s a place to stay, but don’t expect any regular food service or housekeeping. The management is the worse. They don’t take complaints seriously. This is a “last” resort facility for your loved ones. Be aware if you decide to use this facility, you need to make arrangements to stay also. Be aware that they change the name of the facility often, because of the complaints. It’s been changed at least 5 times in the last 10 years. (Nansemond Pointe, Concordia, Hillhaven, Hillcrest...)They don’t want you to be able to research the complaints and issues they have.
My mother was recently admitted to the skilled nursing care facility at Concordia Nansemond Pointe, Suffolk VA The nurses and CNAs are marvelous, professional and friendly. Last week mom was moved to the long term care unit where the treatment is different than short term skilled nursing. As my mom's new CNA was changing her, she appeared to be very frustrated, close to tears. I asked her what was wrong as she continued to work to change Mom's bed linen with a cloth that didn't appear to be bed linen. She told me that the long term care unit never has the fitted sheets, pads , towels, etc. needed to do their jobs that the other units get. She felt they get the leftovers if they get that. She said it makes it difficult to do what they need to do for the residents. She said she has complained but no one listens or does anything about it I would have given Concordia Nansemond more than 2 stars if not for this experience today. Step up, Concordia Nansemond!!
Poor service, uncaring attitude, small staff, cold food, small portions, and no one working physical therapy. My wife went in for 1 week for open heart rehab. Placed their by Insurance carrier (Humana). Not all the staff has an uncaring attitude, but those that don't care ruin, the efforts of those that do care. Would not recommend this facility for a loved one.
The most horrible experience I have encountered at a health care facility. The head nurse has an ugly attitude and only cares about saving beds not people. I would not advise anyone to send their love one there unless you are not looking for them to return home. That's what happened to mine because the charge nurse didn't want to call the paramedics , she was so afraid the she was going to loose a patient. Well you did sweet heart.
I have worked in Higher Education for over 26 years, and have been involved in improving health Care. More importantly, I have a family member who has required care since CVA on July 4, 2016. I have been to some of the best care centers where my person has received treatment. The only facility that I can compare her current quality of care with, will be Burke Rehabilitation Center in White Plains, NY. Nansemond Pointe is a facility that respects the Resident, the resident's family, and friends, while striving to maintain the Dignity of the Resident.Maintaining human dignity and providing high quality care, in addition to demonstrating unparalleled sensitivity to the Residents feelings and family's expectation is outstanding. The intentionality in providing a Resident dignifying care plan is unmatched. With a highly respectful Administrator, and a talented, hardworking Director of Nursing, one can rest assured that the best care is available to the resident. These officers, as well as the other care givers I have met at the facility, really put "Care -Giving" in a completely different sphere.I have seen nursing, transition, and Rehab care for which I have been forced to fight, plead, cry, scream, yell, stomp, (you name the emotion) and almost compelled to lose faith in humanity, but at Concordia Nansemond Pointe, its been polar opposite; all I have been able to say is Thank you Sir; Thank you Ms. to the Administrator, Director of Nursing, and the staff. I concur with the observation that customer service starts with the Administrator and the Director of Nursing, they lead by example. Should it be my fate to need Rehab, Nansemond Pointe will have my business, Nothing beats treating a Resident with dignity and sensitivity to the resident's angst. Rehab time is tough, mentally challenging and merciless, Nansemond Pointe eases that burden.
I was admitted to Nansemond Pointe Rehabilitation unit February 9, 2015 after surgery following a bad fall and compound fracture of my right ankle. Already having been diagnosed with Osteoporosis, Osteoarthritis and Spinal Stenosis and confined to a wheelchair, I required extensive physical therapy. My treatment by the P.T. staff here was excellent. They were highly professional, patient and encouraging and after several months of daily therapy I was vastly improved and able to move around somewhat independently. I subsequently moved into the long term residential section of the facility. The nurses and aides here are generally kind and caring. I truly respect them for their perseverance and patience while there have been shortages during the transition from Kindred to Concordia, and I value some as close friends. I do see a lack of medical oversight since three doctors previously on staff left this facility and, at present, there is only one M.D. on staff. The buildings and grounds here are beautiful, well maintained and quiet. The meals are good, there are activities nearly every day with daily calendars, schedules of events and newspapers delivered. Administration does a good job!
I have worked in the Healthcare field for over 20 years, and Nansemond Pointe is a very caring place to receive your rehabilitation or stay long term if needed. Customer service starts with the Administrator and The Director of Nursing, they lead by example. I would certainly choose this facility if I needed rehab.
