As lovely as some of the staff are, I have to stay this place really shouldn’t be getting five stars. My parent is there now and apparently was told that the balcony (which is extra for those who live in the side of the building with balconies) will not be open again for up to a year. My parent asked about this during a meeting and was told “talk to the contractor”. What the heck? These men and women pay A LOT of money there (almost $6,000 a month)— they should NOT have to talk to anyone about anything! The staff should be the ones who deliver news clearly, honestly, and directly! Also, how is it fair that they are being charged for a service that they can’t have? IT ISNT! So, I agree with the ordain who said the billing practices are just terrible and you can’t trust them. Also, when my parent moved in earlier last year, there were cockroaches EVERYWHERE! Yes, many were dead, but they were teeny (which means the roaches are laying eggs! 🪳🤢). For elderly men and women this is incredibly unhealthy. They are unable to reach into their kitchen cabinets and wipe down and clean them. I can tell you the cleaner who comes once a week doesn’t clean, dust, or much of anything. Also, I do feel like these poor men and women are being hustled by someone there in billing. I have asked them to NOT wash my parent’s clothes every time the cleaner comes x but it is still washer.(Yes, I will say is a nice service…BUT THEY CHARGE EXTRA! As they do for basically everything.). I know many people are concerned and considering taking their loved ones out of that place unless something changes. There are tons of other places that are cleaner (MUCH, MUCH, MUCH, MUCH cleaner), have services like laundry included in rent, and have nurses visits included in rent. The crazy thing is, the rent is cheaper! How is that possible?? The only difference is they are not smack dab on the middle of the city, they are still in the citt, just not downtown. So, if you are considering putting your loved one in this facility you should really think again or push them to clean up, get rid of the corruption from the company anf from those they contract (like the hair salon, etc.) otherwise, you’ll be stuck like many of us in a place that has some seriously shady business practices. Good news is that the BBB and DC are checking them out to see what’s going on. Not sure when, but they said they are. Fingers crossed they shake that company up and make sure they stop the intentional over charging, hire a better cleaning company, hire a nursing contracted staff that shows up and won’t charge an arm and a leg to make sure your loved one takes his/her medication (yes, that’s one of their things—they just show up and make sure your loved one has taken their medication. They are in and out in under one minute apparently and charge $25-50!!), hire a better pest control company, as well as actually rake your loved one to where they need to go. (Part of their “included” service is they are supposed to take your loved one to the doctor and what not. However, if your loved one has a doctor appt. some where that is more than a mile away from where other people have to be dropped off, THEY WONT TAKE THEM! It’s frustrating and ridiculous.). I wish I had looked into this place and spoke with people who have loved ones there as well as those who live there. I don’t think I would have chosen this place for the person who brought me into this world. Regardless of how close and convenient it is us.)
