Our Resident Care Team
At The Hickman, our Resident Care Team consists of a diverse group of professionals including Nurses, Medication Technicians, Certified Nursing Assistants (CNA), non-certified nursing assistants, and Care Coordinators. Medication Technicians are certified to administer oral medications, while nurses and CNAs maintain their required certifications. We mandate a minimum of 12 hours of in-service training annually, though we often exceed this requirement. Training topics include Safety, Dementia, Fire Safety and Emergency Preparedness, and Customer Service and Communication.
Safety and Well-being Measures
- Residents wear a "Pendant" for emergencies, which can detect falls and allow residents to signal for assistance.
- Care staff perform daily "rounding" to check on residents.
- Weekly interdisciplinary team meetings with Bayada Home Health and department managers to discuss resident updates and concerns.
- Monthly fire drills.
- A concierge ensures all visitors sign in and out, and doors are locked after hours with access codes provided to residents and family members.
Transition Support Services
Our care team, along with Community Life staff, assists new residents in acclimating to the community. We also use a Resident Lifestyle Profile form to better understand each resident's preferences.
Transportation and Health Care Services
We do not offer transportation services; however, we provide various health care services on-site, including PCP visits, therapy services, podiatry, ophthalmology, audiology, dermatology, mobile dentist, and neuropsychology.
Dining Experience
Residents dine in a communal dining room with assigned seating to encourage socialization and to monitor dietary habits. Meals are served on each floor, and the food is described as delicious.
Addressing Resident Complaints
Residents are encouraged to speak with their Care Coordinator regarding any issues. Monthly resident meetings are also held for updates and to voice concerns.
Communication with Families
Upon admission, families receive contact information for the Care Coordinator. Major medical concerns and emergencies are communicated to the designated Power of Attorney or Responsible Person.
Short-term or Respite Stays
We offer respite stays ranging from 2 weeks to 90 days, with rates for a studio apartment starting at $225/day, plus additional personal care fees based on the resident's needs.
Pet Policy
While residents cannot have pets live in the community, family members are allowed to bring pets for visits, and volunteers also bring dogs for visits, subject to vaccination requirements and approval.
Vaccinations
Covid and flu vaccinations may be provided on-site through clinics or by residents' personal doctors or our visiting doctors.
Aging in Place
The ability to age in place depends on the resident's ability to bear weight and transfer without mechanical lifts. Residents who become bedridden may only continue to reside with us if they are eligible for and sign onto Hospice services. We do not provide certain medical services or assistance with complex medical needs.
Availability
We currently have studio apartments available with no waitlist, except for memory care which does have a waitlist.
