Employee Reviews for Holiday Retirement in Vancouver, Washington
2.86 out of 5 stars. Based on 7 reviews
Overall, employees who have worked for Holiday Retirement in the Vancouver, WA area have mixed reviews. Many employees enjoy the onsite residents and appreciate the free meals, Holiday University for self-learning and guided learning, and the feeling of worth that comes from cooking for the residents. However, there are also complaints about the lack of professionalism from management, fake people, and the tyrannical and unfair local management. Employees also mention that the pay is terrible and there is little to no advancement room. On the other hand, some employees have had positive experiences, such as transitioning from another industry and having a thorough on-boarding process and week-long training. 2.81 out of 5 stars. Based on 1000 reviews
Employees of Holiday Retirement generally have positive things to say about their experience. They enjoy the residents and building staff, and appreciate the bonus structure and autonomy they are given. However, they also report issues with pay, long hours, lack of effort from upper management, and lack of growth opportunities. They suggest that management should improve benefits, hire and train good people, and be more realistic about rates. They also suggest that management should be more understanding of employees and show genuine care for them. Finally, they suggest that management should focus on the residents and staff rather than how much money they are making.Healthcare Nearby

Just received the worst thanksgiving dinner in my life. The turkey was worse than cotton balls. The food here is mostly bad. Got 2 tablespoons of canned cranberry sauce. dessert was pumpkin pie. Can only guess it was a 12 inch pie cut into 16 pieces. To add insult to injury they will not answer their phone. No housekeeping, they could have let me know, they did not. not that the housekeeping is any great shakes as it is. Am VERY unhappy.
The neglect my grandparents got from the very very poor "house keeping" and the terrible food. I feel bad for the old people living their retirement Here at the Bedford because they're all getting taken advantage of with the amount of money they pay to live at this place. The bathrooms toilets and showers look like they hadn't been clean in months with black and pink algae/mold, the thick dust out in the open in places that should have been getting wiped down and dusted hadn't been done, not only in the bathrooms but in their kitchen /living areas. The maintenance is extremely poor and get by just walking around and not actually doing things to help make the place look good and fix what needs fixed.my question is with all the money everyone is paying to live here why isn't the staff Johnny on the spot and why not have some actual decent food? I'm extremely upset with this place and how they've treated my family here.
Andrew M.'s assessment of The Bedford seems quite unfair to me. My mother has been here for two years now and I've eaten with her in the dining room many times. I've always thought the food was good. Admittedly, I've never eaten a hamburger there, but their salmon, chicken, beef, pork, salads, fruit trays and other option have been more than satisfactory. The management and staff have been more than kind and attentive when she needed help with the television or even health issues. It is a lovely, and well-kept facility and I wouldn't hesitate to place Mom there all over again.
The staff and management we met were excellent. Warm, friendly and very welcoming. The grounds are nice. The price is reasonable. Our only concern is with only 1 restaurant meal choices may be limited unless the kitchen doesn’t get in a rut and serve the same thing month after month.
Assets and positives aplenty! Seemed to have the full array of facilities, programs, staff and history to maintain a superior lifestyle. Open question on coordination with LTC facility and didn’t visit that. Facility well kept and attractive. Architecture comes in second to Touchmark - nothing can be done about that. Impressed with COVID adapted practices. We were not disappointed in any aspect.
I liked the attractive feel overall at Bedford with decor, natural light and color choices. I appreciated the time and effort the friendly representative gave me with my tour. It was nice to get a feel for dining b having a meal as part of my tour. Work out areas and game rooms were small.
My husband & I lived at The Bedford for a year . We enjoyed our time & our experience in this wonderful retirement facility. We loved the mangegement , the staff & the residents. It was the perfect place for us for this last year. We always had something to do & experience. I enjoyed the pool several times a week with friends, beanbag baseball, card games & visiting with the residents.I would recommend this facility to anyone looking for enjoyable retirement living.
I have been living at The Bedford for 5 years and 2 months and the experience has been wonderful!! I moved in at a rough time in my life and The Bedford is now my family. We have all stayed safe and healthy through the pandemic. Food is plentiful and having friends and staff during this time is a blessing.
Wonderful staff with an at home feel. The staff go out of their way to assist with transportation to doc appointments. Dining room food is very good. Lots of activities, apart from now with covid restrictions, but still manage limited activities. The staff is attentive to the needs and safety of the residents. My mom loves it there. 10 out of 10!
Very disappointed in the Bedford for the years my parents spent there. For the amount of money it costs to live there the management and staff are substandard. The rooms are supposed to be cleaned weekly, and every time I came to visit, the showers had black mold and pink scum, furniture never dusted, toilets dirty, kitchen and bathroom faucets leaked and had black slime mold on the spigots. The food being delivered to the door during isolation was always cold, and tiny portions. Management was very uncooperative with outside resources brought in to help my father, and we quickly found out that it’s all about money and not the people. The rent is outrageous for what you get there. Uncaring staff, institutional style food, and terrible housekeeping. For $4,000 a month it was awful. Would never let another family member go there again.
