Our beloved mother came so close to dying in their 'care' that I shudder to think about that horrible experience.  We were on a rare trip and fortunately had a family member check on her in the second week, where she was found to have gone downhill with severe dehydration and weight loss and being drastically over medicated.  (8 times the amount prescribed by the physician, which was killing her)  She was in the ER for 10 days, then transferred to a rehab facility for weeks to learn how to walk again, etc.  The doctor at St. Luke's told us NOT to let her return to Sunrise if we wanted her to live!!  Wow - that said a lot.  But after multiple horrible encounters with the rudest, most entitled nurse imaginable (she called the police on a grandson spending the night WITH PERMISSION with his grandmother who had fallen, was bleeding from the head and needed watching...when I asked her why in the world she'd had that done and scared all of us badly, she smirked at me and said "He was RUDE to me!"...so you call the police and make false reports because you don't like someone?  This from someone who was repeatedly hauled into court for non-payment of bills?!)  Don't get me wrong - I will honestly say there are some wonderful people who work at this place, but the awful ones have a lot of influence and control and can effectively have a disastrous effect on your loved one's health and whether they live out the natural lives left to them.  My mother became more and more frightened while living on the 3rd floor of Leawood Sunrise...at her new place she's happy and relaxed and not at all scared.  We are SO thankful that our mother survived (barely) her stay at Sunrise so we could place her in a care facility with excellent staff...trained and encouraged to treat the patients with loving respect and concern...NOT as nuisances to be ignored or looked down upon.  Some of these 'care' employees at Sunrise should be ashamed of their actions...or investigated at the very least.

Honestly I don't know how to rate this place. Both my parents live there.  They are in memory care. There have been a few caregivers there that I like and seem sufficient in their job. But my sister and i are always wondering if there is a better place with more efficient care somewhere else. For the money we pay for both my parents to live there it seems there could be a better, more caring and compassionate facility that are on top of things where we can feel at peace and know my parents are well taken care of. We have found them in dirty clothes or urine smelling clothes or wet from not being taken to the bathroom. This is the floor that is suppose to have MORE help more frequently than the assisted living floor and it seems that the caregivers are all too busy to keep up with the residents they have. The head nurse for this floor has been caring and seemed to care whenever we had a problem or complaint but I don't think she can keep up with all that is going on there. My parents room is frequently dirty and they lose my moms hearing aids now and then. They don't have either parent ready when we need to pick them up for dr. Appts after we warn them the day before of what is needed. The list goes on. Some of the caregivers have called us to ask what to do when they have a problem. We were hoping that once my parents were in a care home that the caregivers there would take over and we would never have to worry about all the little things but that is not the case with Sunrise of Leawood. My parents are still there but we are questioning our choice and may have to make a drastic change if this continues to go on which I'm thinking it probably will since we've already had a few meetings with them and nothing has changed. My suggestion is to really check out all floors at these facilities and talk to the residents who live there and can still communicate well or talk to their relatives that visit. It's the only way you'll really know what goes on in these places. Update! Tonight 2/22/18 my father is in the hospital. Sunrise's lack of care has lead to this. No follow through and no one to take things as seriously as they should & just plain negligence when it comes to the elderly there. My dad also smelled like urine when he arrived at the hospital. Not happy. Seriously thinking of needing to get my parents OUT OF SUNRISE

If you are ready to move your loved one into a senior community, Sunrise of Leawood is a wise choice. The staff is wonderful and the facility is beautiful.My mother feels safe and she is very happy. It's a great comfort knowing she is in such excellent hands. This community of residents shine of satisfaction.I'm so greatful we found Leawood of Sunrise. Thank you Sunrise for all you do and for your professionalism, knowledge, support, and loving care!

I have two parents living here for a year now. We are thankful that Sunrise has been pro active in their health care. They seem to enjoy the activities, food and living in the apartment. Sunrise is very attentive to our questions and their needs. Clean living areas is also a plus.

Worked here for 3 yrs in total as a CNA and CMA. I cant say one bad thing about this place. Not. One. Thing. If you have a loved one that is thinking about living in a senior facility, look no further. You will get the best care available. I no longer work at this location but I'm confident the expectations we hold at Sunrise will stay and never leave. We strive for making you FEEL at home. The feeling is what you will notice is the deciding factor when picking a senior facility and Sunrise FEELS like home.

Today I had a interview at this facility. And I loved how clean and beautiful it was on the inside. I met the director Devin and he was the most nicest person, while I was waiting to do some paperwork he asked me would I like to have a bowl of soup? I felt kinda special. Out of all the years and places I've worked no one has ever done that before, and he kindly escorted me to the staff lounge. And the Staffing coordinator Ms. Dorcas was so nice and polite and very professional. I am excited about being a part of the Sunrise team. I feel this will be a great place for me.
