i received excellent care. I had not been a patient there for many years and had heard not so good things but my experience, although horrible for me health wise , was quite good. Apparently i was a horrible patient , although i don't remember, but they saved my life more than once during my stay. The nurses were experienced and knowledgeable. I can't thank them enough
As nice as the people in the little town are, I was mortified at the way I was treated at this hospital. I was at the beach with my husband (newly married) and had to be rushed to the ER because of severe Abdominal pain and female problems I won't go into. The Care was excellent EXCEPT it took 4 doses of pain medication ( and very STRONG medicine, not Morphine ) to get my pain under control which I thought was odd. My nurse always seemed a To " creep " up behind me " allegedly" putting it in my IV without even telling me what she was doing. I had had this medication before Abdul usually 2 doses and I'm out of it. It's also Customary for the nurse to TELL the patient when medication is being given which she didn't untilThe 4th and Final dose which finally worked. I TRUELY believe that I was NOT given the first 3 dudes of pain medication and that the nurse, Anna, a newly signed on staff nurse from Georgia who was a traveling nurse when I visited this very same hospital with my Mother in Law a few weeks prior. She was incredibly nice during my last visit when my Mother in Law was the patient, but when I was the patient and had severe pain, not to mention significant findings on my Cat Scan, I'm not sure what got into her and I truly believe she diverted drugs that were ordered for me! She also gave me a hard time when I was checking out only to notice that my Date if Birth was wrong which I BROUGHT to her attention. Suddenly a big commotion was made that my ID didn't have my married name on it ( I'm NEWLY married, I haven't had time to get my ID changed) but the mistake I made was coming in the hospital under my Married name which didn't match my ID. She even tried to convince the doctor not to write me a prescription leading him to believe I was drug seeking ( he OFFERED me a prescription as two huge fibroid tumors were found on my uterus ) I NEVER even asked for it. I'm still in SHOCK that this Nurse has a job and I reported her to her manager ( a waste of time, some older lady named Melissa ) and the Alaska Board Of Nursing as Melissa refused to drug test her. I have NEVER been treated so badly in a hospital and I plan to get to the bottom of why it took SO much medication to give me adequate pain relief then this Nurse tried talking the doctor OUT of giving me a prescription ( or maybe writing one and keeping it for herself? Who knows.. but something was definitely VERY wrong with this Nurse and her very odd behavior. I saw her administer 1 dose of pain medication to me during the 5 hours I was there and 4 doses I got. Something's NOT right. Do yourself a favor and ask for a DIFFERENT Nurse if you stumble upon an ER nurse with a Southern Accent named Anna. I hope if your in Pain you WATCH HER give you your medications!
I am from Kansas and I have stage 4 renal cell carcinoma. I am in Homer for the summer and have to have blood work done every month. The women in the lab are wonderful and professional. They are very good at there job. They always treat me with care and respect. Thank you ladies.
