I placed my brother here, and have been very impressed with the quality of care that he receives. This is the third home that we've tried and it is by far the best. The facility is clean, the staff is friendly and professional, and they seem to genuinely care about the patients. My brother even enjoys the food and I definitely can't say that about the others we tried! The only reason I didn't give them 5 stars is because it is very hard to reach anyone by telephone and they aren't good about returning calls when I leave messages.
No one returns calls, brother in law was there for two weeks. When released he was supposed to have home health setup, I have not heard a word from them or healthcare people either. They are not allowing visitors because of COVID they say but my brother in law is home now and he has nothing good to say about the place.
This place is horrible. If there was less than 1 star, I would give it. My dad was sent here for rehab and we chose this because of the location. Our family was there every day at least 12 hours because we saw that he was neglected and not changed or given his medication on time. I wish we could have been there the other 12 hours since my dad was ABUSED in the middle of the night! He had large bruises and abrasions on his arm 2 days in a row. They investigated and said it was their employee and they would give him "additional training". My husband had helped this same man get my dad in bed at night many times because they were so understaffed and then Luis came back in the middle of the night and abused my father. In 30 days, my dad got 1 SHOWER after we insisted and then it took another 3 days for it to actually happen. Their excuse was that he was not on the list for a shower. No sponge bath the entire time at all. His roommate had been there 5 weeks and had not had a shower or bath yet. His roommate's clothes were stolen and never were found. Patients are changed 2 times a day and no one offers to take them to the restroom. The food is not good and is cold by the time it has sat out in the hall. We had a working TV 4 days out of the 33 days of being there and the maintenance man Eddie was extremely rude. When we left there was a fire hazard sign on the door for over a week because the sprinkler system wasn't working. This place has many Medicaid patients that have nowhere to go and no one to advocate for them. They insisted on a treatment plan meeting after a week and it was for the sole purpose of pushing us to put him in long-term care there after rehab. That would never happen, I assure you. I agree with the previous review that the CNA to patient ratio is 30:1 and that is despicable. Every patient I talked to agreed that it was disgusting and management does not care. The only positive thing I can say is that Michelle in Physical Therapy was wonderful but, unfortunately, that was the only person that really cared and did her job well. They have a beautiful shiny floor in the hall that is polished 24/7 for visitors to see but look in the rooms and see what it's really like. I will NEVER forgive myself for unknowingly putting my dad in this absolute hell for a month of his life. Medicare/Medicaid needs to investigate this place and shut them down.
DO NOT SEND YOUR LOVED ONES HERE. This place is absolutely despicable. My grandfather suffered from numerous falls, stolen/lost property, being over and under medicated, negligence, and verbal abuse. These people will literally sit behind the nurses station and play on their phone instead of caring for their patients. They will walk past your loved one as they yell for help like they're invisible to them, and they will constantly lose your loved ones belongings. Don't expect your loved one to be in their own clothes when you visit if they use the laundry service here. The staff to patient ratio is atrocious (30 patients to one LPN or RN). I'm a nurse myself and I know abuse, negligence, and lack of accountability when I see it. The people who work here have no integrity. This place needs to be shut down. I will say there are a few good staff members but they are few and far between. My grandfather had multiple falls where he fell and hit his head and no one bothered calling to say he was at the ER until sometimes up to 8+ hrs later, he fell and broke his collar bone, had multiple contusions, a stage 1 (close to stage 2 pressure ulcer), and many infections that went on for days without proper treatment. For the love of god DO NOT send your loved one here.
The nursing staff for long term client a cookie cutter, one size fits all, everyone gets diapered, lot easier then assisting with toileting, everyone eats in room... lot earlier then them going to lunchroom, the CNAs only change diapers once during shift. Nursing staff does not take family members concerns in consideration. It difficult to reach nurses. You are put on hold for more then 20 minutes at a time. Medications are not given in timely manner, nor do the buses tell the client what medicine he/she is taking.Nurses that most notoriously bad are "Marie", Lidia, and Lilith. They need their certifications pulled
My mom had a stroke and we had her moved there for rehab. The lady that came around to change her and feed was nice but the nurses are whole different breed of incompetent. I walked in her room and noticed right away she was breathing heavily and something was wrong. The nurse came in around 2pm and said she'd have to call the doctor to see what they wanted to do. 7pm rolled around and I called for the nurse again and the other nurse left didn't tell the new nurse anything about it and the new nurse standing 5 feet from her room said " she didn't have time to check on her, she was too busy! She'd have to wait til in the morning when the next nurse got there! She was moved back to hospital with respiratory distress and fever the next morning. That lady should be fired and not allowed to work with patients. Period! My can't talk because of the stroke. I knew immediately something was wrong and they did nothing to help her! Don't send your family member to this place.
I just want to thank the gentleman that comforted me after my visit with my dad (Steve) in hospice care. I didn't catch your name, but if you happen to see this, Thank you for your kind words, and thank you all for taking good care of my dad during this very difficult time. Compassionate caring staff make a world of difference when you know your loved one is passing. God bless you all.
My experience at Powder Springs was very pleasing. The nursing staff was caring and helpful. The office staff was very professional and friendly. The administrative staff was very friendly. They all seem to have general compassion for the residents and that is so important to families . I must say even the residents seemed happy. Powder Springs is a place I would feel comfortable leaving my love ones. I had a recent experience with another facility and it was one of the most horrible experiences I could ever imagined. Power Spring was like a 5 star facility compare to others. Please keep up the good work!Elaine Redmond
This place is terrible ! My brother was sent there for rehab & is in a hospital now in worse shape than when he went in . He was obviously neglected. He has lost about 40 lbs in a months time there ! Do NOT let your loved one be admitted to this place if you care about them at all .
Haven't been able to talk to husband in a week or visit him. They are petrified of COVID. If you are on top of cleaning should be no problem,Ike all other places are doing. SANITIZE. I call 90% never get a person to answer. If someone does they have no idea who you want a report onI've yet to receive a return call of the 16 messages I've left this week. Your loved one is better of home then here
My 95 y/o father was transferred to Powder Springs from a Wellstar hospital with a leg fracture and recent-onset confusion. No phones in patient rooms with various reasons why I couldn't talk to him. Cordless phone shared by 130 patients not available, then the battery was dead. Starting day one, I reminded admissions, nurses, & occupational therapy in phone conversations, voice mail, and e-mail of his Ortho appointment to occur 5 days after powder springs admission. Responses essentially amounted to, "it's not my job". Finally, we had transport arranged on a Friday. Monday morning (day of appointment) Powder Springs cancelled the transport because "45 min is too far away", the patient "needs gurney" (obviously), family (me) had not agreed to pay (he has Medicare which pays for medically necessary transport such as a leg fracture, non-weight bearing in a long soft cast), I had "not given adequate notice", and other excuses. He received no PT while there. We decided on a "jail break", called a private ambulance to take him to Emory where he was admitted. They asked me not to do it because they didn't want to be marked with "a readmission". They were worried about their grade more than the patient. Powder springs was decimated by Covid and neither the facility nor State of Georgia mandate vaccines for healthcare workers taking care of these vulnerable patients.
