Community Insights
This detailed information was obtained directly from the Director of Business Development at Ohio Living Cape May via email on Nov. 17, 2023.
Overview of Professional Staff and Training
As a continuing care retirement community, our staff is well trained in all areas and positions. From our Medical Director to State Tested Nursing Assistants to our culinary and housekeeping, ongoing Relias Training is paramount to continuous improvement and maintaining excellence.
Safety and Well-Being Measures
We offer 24-hour maintenance and security, and staff on duty 24 hours. CPR training and security cameras assist in the security of residents. We offer services for the enhancement of physical, mental and spiritual well-being of our residents. Daily activities, spiritual life committees, and on-site therapy and rehab are the cornerstone of Cape May.
Transition Support Services
I work with local insurance companies, moving, storage, real estate agents, and auctioneers. Also junk removal and local donations.
Transportation Services
We offer limited transportation services. HOWEVER, the Wilmington Transit (cab service) offers one-way trips in the city of Wilmington for $1.
Dining Experience
Our dining room experience is "restaurant style", meaning servers take our residents' orders and deliver drinks, meals, and desserts to the table - NOT a cafeteria.
Resident Complaints and Issues
There are different ways to file a complaint depending on the severity of the issue. This could range from speaking with the department manager, to the Executive Director, all the way to the formal complaint being filed with the ombudsman.
Cost of Living
I have attached the rate sheets to the original email.
Communication with Residents' Families
If the resident requests that we contact a specific family member, that person is then added to our official contact phone/mail/email list.
Short-Term or Respite Stays
We do offer respite stays. The rate would be at our normal daily rate plus any levels of care charges that would apply.
Pet-Friendly Community
YES! We are very pet friendly. Currently, we do have a waitlist in assisted living and independent living.
Cape May Location
Cape May is nestled on 27 beautiful acres in Wilmington, OH. We are close to healthcare, shopping and dining, the historic Murphy Theatre and Wilmington College.

Residents and visitors of Cape May have shared a variety of experiences, highlighting the community's strengths and areas for improvement. Many reviews praise the sense of community, professional and personable staff, and the quality of care provided. One review shared a positive rehabilitation experience, noting Cape May as the best among many states lived in. Another highlighted the personal attention and care their grandmother received, allowing her to maintain independence with access to necessary services. Long-term residents express satisfaction with their decision to move to Cape May, citing the community and staff as key factors in their happiness.
However, not all experiences have been positive. One family reported challenges with the administration regarding care for a family member with Parkinson’s and dementia, feeling that the facility was trying to remove their loved one. Another review mentioned difficulties with phone communication and perceived rudeness.
Employees and volunteers speak highly of their experiences, describing Cape May as a family-like environment where they've formed close bonds with residents. The community is also recognized for offering quality housing and skilled care, including physical and occupational therapy, to both residents and the wider community.
Overall, Cape May is described as a place of caring people and a strong community, though some reviews suggest there is room for improvement in administrative communication and inclusivity of care plans.
