Lakewood Manor is a nursing home that carries a 2-star overall rating, placing it in the bottom 40% of facilities based on this metric and falling below the state average. The nursing home's health inspection rating, the lowest possible at 1-star, further casts a shadow over its reputation, since it ranks in the bottom 10% of facilities in this regard, again underperforming compared to the state average. However, amidst these shortcomings, Lakewood Manor shines in one important dimension - its quality rating. Boasting a perfect 5-star score, the highest possible, the nursing home finds itself in the esteemed top 20% of facilities based on the quality of care. This rating also surpasses the state average, making Lakewood Manor an exceptional place in terms of its service quality.Staff Ratings
Lakewood Manor is a highly rated nursing home with a 4-star staff rating, placing it amongst the top end of care facilities. It stands in the top 20% of facilities for nursing aid staffing hours, providing an impressive 2.7 hours per resident per day, significantly above the state average of 1.94 hours. In terms of LPN staffing hours, the nursing home ranks in the top 10% of facilities, ensuring a commendable 1.44 hours per resident per day, compared to the state's 1.02 hours. Furthermore, it is also in the top 30% for physical therapist staffing, maintaining an admirable 0.1 hours per resident per day, a bit more than the state's 0.08 hours. These high ratings and consistent staffing numbers reinforce Lakewood Manor's commitment towards providing quality care for all its residents.Covid Data

Similarly, the staff vaccination rate also lags behind the state average; only 8.6% of Lakewood Manor staff are up-to-date with the latest vaccinations, far less than the state staff average of 25.9%. Disappointingly, Lakewood Manor is in the lower 20% tier for the percentage of residents given the pneumococcal vaccine, with the percentage of 84.05% being less than the state's percentage of 88.02%. So far I’m very pleased with my mother in law’s transition to independent living at Lakewood. And relieved! She moved in a few months after the pandemic started, which had us all nervous. But she has been well taken care of from the time she moved in! The pandemic actually gave her a little bit of time to settle in and get used to the facilities without being overwhelmed, and she has had such great experiences so far with easy vaccine distribution, prompt maintenance, minimal sound - only noticeable if people talking in hallway outside her door but nothing from neighbors, a really great group of neighbors, and quick responsiveness to a concern over construction (they found a solution within a day!). And when the banks were closed due to Covid, she found that there was a bank downstairs in the facility that she could use as well! I feel like she is in terrific hands, and can’t wait to be able to visit. I also hear it’s quite beautiful.
My father fell ill and needed a place to recover after weeks in the ICU. We looked at several options in the Richmond area and chose Lakewood. We couldn’t be happier! My father is enjoying the wide range of foods available, the helpful staff, and is recovering quickly. The rooms are nice, modern, and clean with terrific medical support. The staff are super friendly. A special shout out to Courtney Thompson in their sales department, who has helped us from 3,000 miles away tend to his care, inform us of options, and generally make this trying and stressful experience as pleasant and cheerful as she can.
This community is hands down, the best place to work as an employee! This 5 star rated healthcare community was absolutely an honor to work for. The staff and residents here are awesome! This is a great concept, continuing care throughout the continuum of care/life is the way to go. I would recommend Lakewood to anyone. Whether looking for Independent Living, Assisted Living, or Healthcare services. Their rehab team is awesome! The nursing staffing is by far the best in healthcare for Skilled Nursing and Assisted Living and awesome as well. This community is very inviting and hospitable. Compared to all of the communities and SNFs in the area, region, or nation. Lakewood stands above all. They are continually improving to provide a excellent living experience and also healthcare services to the community of Richmond. Keep up the Great Work!Always a Fan,Kevin Emory.
Beware!! Don't subject your loved one to suffering from the lack of nursing care here. Consistent, unacceptable care "camouflaged" in pretty building and fancy food. My parent has suffered 4 hospitalizations due to infections that staff didn't identify or maybe didn't care about. Despite there being a doctor here, Ive had to manage medical care while I live in a different state, requesting chest x-rays and bloodwork, explaining to nurses his signs of infection, and having them call paramedics. I've met with multiple people in nursing leadership numerous times for hours to try to improve the care of my parent. Exhausting and scary. If you can't stay here with your loved one or hire a private sitter, don't risk coming here. Some aids are also extremely rude and aggressive with the residents and some cannot read English. If you have a complaint, you can report it by completing a form on the Virginia Department of Health website, Division of Facilities Services, for them to come investigate. Most of the good reviews posted are from employees ( including the Director of Assisted Living), NOT the Health Care Centre patients or their families.
Donna Anderson and the Clinical Services nursing staff at Lakewood have been very helpful with my Mother and her medical needs. They are truly dedicated to my Mother's health and safety and demonstrate the proper "balance between mission and margin" that I would expect from one of Richmond's finest Life Plan Communities!
My family has made many visits to Lakewood and have always been impressed with the cleanliness of the community and the friendliness of the staff. My grandparents were delighted with their life at Lakewood and enjoyed making many friends. We appreciated all the loving care of the staff. Congrats on your 40th year!
Lakewood is the kind of place where you feel at home from the moment you walk in the door. I first visited nearly five years ago, when I was asked to speak to a women's group there about my experiences overseas. At the time, I had no idea that places like Lakewood existed for senior adults, and I was amazed by the friendliness of the staff, the amenities, and the food. I noticed that the staff knew each resident by name and addressed them with respect. In the years since, I've found that my initial impression matches reality. Lakewood is warm, welcoming and inviting. I highly recommend it.
Very unprofessional. My aunt currently resides at Lakewood and has been there for 9 years. It used to be friendly. Now that new management has moved in it has really gone down. I stopped for a visit there last week and heard 2 female staff members talking about the Activities Director for assisted living performing sexual acts with another staff member on the campus. I dont think that is appropriate conversation for the work place. Food used to been great, but now when I join my aunt for lunch it's horrible. No one says good morning anymore. Not as many people have smiles on their faces. Just the feel of lakewwod has really gone down hill the past couple of years.
