  • Hickory Ridge Nursing & Rehabilitation Center Description

Hickory Ridge is a 164 bed, skilled nursing facility located in Akron, Ohio. We provide 24/7 skilled nursing care, physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, spiritual care, individualized activities, and much more to help you reach your maximum potential. We promote quality of life and independence through friendly, professional service, and person centered care.

Hickory Ridge offers a secured unit for persons experiencing behavioral and emotional challenges. Emotional challenges coupled with medical diagnosis may result in a compromised quality of life. We have designed a program to improve the quality of life for our compromised patients on this unit, which includes individualized behavior treatment plans, medication evaluation by a consulting psychiatrist, family involvement and education. Licensed Social Workers for individual and group therapy, daily activities such as gardening, cooking, spiritual groups and outside events, staff that are trained in behavioral management, and a safe, secure, homelike environment with an enclosed courtyard, compliment this unit.

In addition to our Secured Behavior Unit, we offer a secured Alzheimer's unit. We believe strongly that Alzheimer's care does not have to be institutional. We have worked hard to make sure that our Alzheimer's unit is as homelike as possible. Our special programs include; individualized care planning, diagnostic testing, a secure courtyard for outside activities, such as picnics and gardening and continuity of caregivers for each shift.

If you are in need of rehab, our state of the art gym, with the most up to date equipment, is open 7 days a week. Our rehab unit has its own dining area, private rooms, and is located near the therapy area, away from our central population.

Hickory Ridge offers activities for all ages, from our annual pig roast to our summer carnival, to rocking out to our physician based band, the residents at Hickory Ridge really look forward to these events. Our private Hickory Ridge bus transports our residents to a variety of off-site destinations. Shopping, casinos, movies, fishing, and tours are just a few of the places our residents enjoy. If you are a member of the Red Hat Society, or are interested in joining, our group of ladies meet monthly. Pool tournaments, in our game room, are a lively event and always a hit! We also have complimentary Wi-Fi and cable throughout the building. The computer station has a nice view of our aquarium, and is open to all residents.

While we encourage our residents to live a healthy lifestyle, we do have a heated smoking area with its own sprinkler system.
