Bloomington, IL – Heritage Operations Group, one of Illinois’ largest providers of long-term care services, announced the permanent closing of Heritage Health – Springfield located at 900 North Rutledge Street.
Three primary factors led to the decision to close Heritage Health-Springfield. First, the COVID-19 pandemic has brought unprecedented operating cost increases and challenges. Second, the inability to hire and retain workers has led to an explosion of wage expenses and made the promise of providing quality health care services increasingly difficult. Third, reimbursement from the Illinois Medicaid program has not kept pace with accelerating operating costs. CEO of Heritage Operations Group, LLC, Ben Hart said, “The pandemic has led to historically low occupancy levels coupled with exploding operating costs. Our primary sources of revenue are Medicaid and Medicare, and they have not kept pace. This was a very difficult decision to make, and it will be a severe loss for health care in the Springfield community, but we had no other choice” said Hart. All notices to residents and their families, employees and regulatory agencies have been sent in compliance within the required notification timeline.
