Welcome and thank you for your interest in all we have to offer. Founded by The Order of the Eastern Star (OES), Ethan Place has proudly been serving Rhode Island senior citizens for 55 years by providing a safe, comfortable environment to call home. OES,Inc. is a nonprofit, nonsectarian assisted living community which is fully licensed by the RI Department of Health.
We are a Residential Care Community that emphasizes Assisting our residents with carrying out their daily living routines rather than assuming the primary role of performing daily tasks for them. This model is designed for seniors needing help with basic daily activities and not meant for individuals requiring nursing home services. Some of the personal support services we provide include medication administration, nourishing meals, housekeeping, laundering, and shopping. Our highly qualified staff consists of an Administrator, a Wellness Director who holds an RN license, Caregivers, Medication Technicians, Certified Nursing Assistants, Certified Food Safety Managers, an Activities Director, Housekeepers, and an on call Registered Nurse.
Since opening our doors in 1963, we have been guided by a simple philosophy rooted in the spirit of Caring and Sharing. When your loved one comes home to Ethan Place, they will be encouraged to live as independently as they desire. Our staff of highly trained individuals offer all levels of support in the most compassionate way. Getting to know each resident personally allows our caregivers to truly understand their unique needs as well as their limitations. The maximum number of residents never exceeds 32 which enables us to provide the most effective staff to resident ratio. Unlike larger facilities where your loved one is often rushed, made to feel like a number, or even worse, completely neglected, at Ethan Place our size allows us to treat our residents respectfully and patiently allowing them to retain their sense of dignity. Our staff is taught to understand that residents may be limited in both their physical mobility and cognitive processing but that these natural occurrences are to be expected and met with patience and positive encouragement. In addition to fulfilling our residents’ basic physical needs, you can rest assured knowing your loved ones emotional and spiritual needs are equally important to us. Current research suggests that when senior citizens are placed in well-rounded environments specifically tailored to their individual needs their quality of life increases exponentially. Our home is a single story, handicapped accessible building which consists of 18 private residential rooms and 6 semi-private residential rooms. The private rooms have a tiled half bathroom attached to them. The semi-private rooms have access to fully equipped bathrooms. All rooms have ample storage with spacious closets. Residents are welcomed to use our furniture or supply their own. In addition, each room comes equipped with cable television (basic cable package included in rent), telephone outlets for private telephone use (at residents expense), and individual heat control. There is no extra cost for residents using their own energy efficient air conditioners. We encourage socialization by offering a variety of communal areas, both indoor and out, for gatherings with family and friends. Our talented cooking staff offers a wide assortment of meals to satisfy every taste bud by using quality ingredients and seasonal produce. Always striving to please, we take into consideration our residents’ personal preferences.
