Employee Reviews for Sunshine Retirement Living in Dunwoody, Georgia
3.25 out of 5 stars. Based on 4 reviews
Employees of Sunshine Retirement Living in the Dunwoody, GA area generally have positive things to say about their experience. They appreciate the free food, which is usually of good quality and often leftovers are available to take home. They also enjoy talking to the residents. However, there are some downsides to working for Sunshine Retirement Living, such as low pay, lack of communication and self-awareness from management, and a stubborn unwillingness to scale down even when there is not enough staff. Employees suggest that management should treat employees better and ask for feedback on certain things. They also suggest that managers should be moved to other communities for a short stay to give them a break and a chance to see the uniqueness of another Sunshine Community. Employees also suggest that the executive director should have a better understanding of what is going on in the building and that the maintenance director should not be allowed to do whatever he likes. The most enjoyable part of the job is solving problems for appreciative residents.Employee Reviews for Sunshine Retirement Living

I was an activities volunteer during the month of July, 2019. I loved helping the residents. Seeing the smiles on their faces brought me so much joy. This is a spectacular place. They treat all their residents and staff well. I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to volunteer here. Even though it was a short period of time, I know it made an impact on the residents as well as on me.
I have been volunteering at Dunwoody Pines for several months and giving my time to the residents have been pure JOY! The staff is wonderful and very interactive with the residents. Everyone is treated like family and it shows! I keep coming back because I feel a sense of genuineness and appreciation for the little things I do and the stolen moments I am able to share,
My mother lived her for a year and really enjoyed her time there - only moving because she required a higher level of care that assisted living could provide. I found the staff and residents to be extremely friendly, and the community to be very active. Like anywhere, they could always use more help, but I didn't see it as too much of a detriment on anything except security (yes, they could do a better job of screening people as they come in). Otherwise, my mom is really going to miss it. Keep in mind that these sorts of places usually cost several thousand dollars a month, and this place was very reasonable for what you get in return. You want the fancy whistles and bells that come from retirement living? Open up your pocketbook.
The food is getting so bad here, it is almost uneatable. The rolls used to be worth skipping the meal just to eat the rolls. Now they are hardly worth even coming to the table to eat. They are half the size they used to be because they were using too much butter. They also changed the recipe and are awful. The quality of the food has also declined. The food is cold a lot of the time, especially the eggs in the morning and the toast is like cardboard. Tonight, they did not have any fruit or vegetables to go with supper. They constantly put items on the menu and when it comes time to order, they say that was a mistake and they don't have that item. Very disappointing. Management has changed twice in a year and they can't seem to keep waitstaff. What a mess. Dryers are unoperable and residents fighting to use those that are available. One of the main elevators has been inoperable and since they can't get parts, it will be months before they can install another elevator, leaving a long line of residents trying to get to their apartments on the various five floors.Dunwoody Pines used to be one of the finest residences in the area, but I certainly would not recommend it now.
Please don't move into this "community". It is a farce. Home office management knows it is poorly run, yet chooses to ignore. Their only goal is to get as many move-ins per month as possible. The building is not clean, inside you can find the "regular" southern roaches, plus the nasty kind that breed in unsanitary environments. Lots of unrest with staff and residents. They will accept anyone, and tell them they "can age in place" Yet this is not an assisted living facility. Healthy active residents are grouped with the more infirmed, making it unfair and not suitable for either. There is no security, people are free to come and go at all hours. My friend's mother lived here for two years until the family finally saw what was happening.
This place is a great complex and community. "IF" I would definitely suggest my parents reside here. Reason being they'd have their independence, Self sufficiency, neighbors(neighbors who understand) care. I wouldn't ever have to worry about my parents being alone. "IF" something were to happen someone would be able to help my parents. It's a safe environment. I wouldn't have to worry about elder abuse nor worry about my parents being taken advantage of nor would I have to worry about someone breaking into my parents home.. This complex is blessed and so are the persons residing there as well as the employees.
I spent 3 nights at Dunwoody Pines to see if it was the right fit for me. I was moving from Oregon to Atlanta and needed a friendly community to make the move easier. By the end of the 3 days I was convinced that this was the place for me. The staff & the residents were very friendly & supportive and it already felt like home. I'm really looking forward to making Dunwoody Pines my new home in Atlanta.
My stepfather moved in to Dunwoody Pines in May. We had great service and very helpful. We were able to tour the facility multiple times and he was put in a brand new updated unit. Communication about moving in and during move in was great. They offer several activities for their members and have a transportation service as well. I am able to bring my kids up there to spend time with him with no questions asked. They can even eat a meal with him if they want to! They offer Luau parties, cookouts etc.
Every one their very friendly and helpful. Staff bent over backwards to help and make you feel comfortable. I would highly recommend it. Great food. Has exercise room ,pool, very nice sitting area outside, just like a park. Plenty of flowers shrubs.all kinds if plants. Many activities field trips. Trips to grocery stores, target, Walmart and more.
