  • Deerfield Episcopal Retirement Community Description

The Rt. Rev. George Henry, Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Western North Carolina from 1948-1974, envisioned the creation of a caring community for seniors. His dream was realized in 1955 through a generous gift by Charles and Marjorie Timson, and the community was initially established in the Timsons’ eleven-room summer residence on 30 acres of farmland. Over a half-century later, Deerfield has grown into a prestigious, nationally-acclaimed life care community on 125 beautiful acres just south of the renowned Biltmore Estate and the Blue Ridge Parkway.

    Review Summary

The following is an AI generated summary of the reviews of the community from across the web.

Deerfield Episcopal Retirement Community is highly praised for its life care center approach, allowing residents to transition from independent living to assisted living and then to nursing care without the need to move again. The community boasts a five-star rating and is noted for its Episcopal affiliation, with many priests and a bishop on the board, ensuring financial security for residents.

Residents can personalize their apartments before moving in, choosing colors, flooring, countertops, and more, with all appliances included. The community offers a flexible meal plan, excellent food, and guestrooms for overnight stays. Amenities such as an exercise room, pool, and beautifully maintained grounds add to the appeal.

The staff is consistently described as friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable, contributing to a satisfied and well-cared-for resident population. Additional facilities include a spa, hair salon, workout room with trainers, water aerobics, yoga classes, wooded hiking trails, a croquet court, a bank, and various social activities including dances and bus trips.

While some reviews mention a waiting list of two to five years, indicating the community's popularity, others note the high cost as a potential barrier. However, the quality of care, the range of amenities, and the beauty of the surroundings are frequently cited reasons for the expense. Some reviews express concerns about specific policies or describe the food as "boring," but these are in the minority.

Overall, Deerfield Episcopal Retirement Community is celebrated for its comprehensive care, welcoming atmosphere, and the peace of mind it offers to residents and their families, making it a highly recommended option for retirement living.
