My mother lived in memory care at Colonial Manor for about six months. Since she would “resist” at shower time, I authorized low-dosage Atavan “as needed” (PRN), for shower days only. However, the facility changed her prescription to Atavan DAILY, without telling me, her MPOA. So I would show up on non-shower days and she would be bombed out of her mind, literally like a zombie! The Administrator told me that I could visit my mother any day, any time, and for any amount of time, and take her out of the facility any time as well. So I visited my mother almost every day, typically after she had eaten supper, about 6:30 p.m., take her home with me for the evening, and return her to Colonial Manor about 10:30 p.m., which was her typical bed time, brush her teeth, toilet her, and put her in bed. But the facility staff absolutely hated that, they wanted all the residents to be there and in bed by about 7:30 p.m. or 8:00 p.m. like good little robots! One time, after I had brought her back to the facility, my mother wanted me to watch a movie with her. She had no roommate at the time, so I did. A CNA burst into the room and ejected me from the property for absolutely no reason at all, we were just there watching the movie and my mother was about to fall asleep. Then a few days later, an LVN screamed at me literally at the top of her lungs that I visited my mother “too much” and that I needed to be more “respectful” of other residents. Then the ADONs, probably as a scheme to try to get me banned from the property, concocted this bogus rumor that I was sexually attracted to one of their staff simply because she had no car and occasionally I would give her rides home at the end of her shifts. They brought me into their office like some kind of police interrogation and gave me the “third degree.” Then the last straw was when the DON herself told me not to take my mother out of the facility after they had a COVID outbreak there, even though they were bringing residents who were still COVID-positive back to the facility from the hospital! Against her “expert” advice, I got my mother the hell out of Colonial Manor and brought her back to my house to live with me, and within 3-4 weeks almost every resident back at the facility had gotten COVID and about 17 of them had died! Then a couple of months later, when I was looking for another facility, Colonial Manor actually had the nerve to tell at least one prospective facility that I had “interfered” in my mother’s care! You’re darn right I did, if I had not done so she most likely would have been dead! They had a few absolutely outstanding employees, and they did seem to have good physical therapy, but other than that it was apparent to me that they just wanted to drug my mother up, keep her in front of a television set, and keep me away from her. Maybe things have changed there since she left, but I seriously doubt it.
