The Texas State Veterans Home in Bonham is named after Clyde W. Cosper who enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Force on October 16, 1939, at the age of 17.
Cosper reported for duty at Kelly Field in San Antonio, Texas, where he served one year. After this, he was assigned to a bomber squadron as a gunner and served in Puerto Rico and the British West Indies. Cosper wanted to pursue his dream of being a pilot and returned to the United States in April 1942 for flight training.
Cosper was a pilot in the 367th Squadron of the U.S. Army Air Force. Cosper gave his life during World War II for his bomber crew and the citizens of a small British village. His gallantry, flying skills and selflessness were memorialized by the lives of his crew and undoubtedly, the lives and property of many British civilians.
