Employee Reviews for Brookdale Senior Living
3.06 out of 5 stars. Based on 1000 reviews
Employees of Brookdale Senior Living generally have positive things to say about the company. They appreciate the free parking, paid orientation and training hours, and nice residents. However, they have noted that the health insurance is expensive and the deductibles are high. Additionally, CNA's PTO for the first year is nearly nonexistent and the pay deposit system is unusual. There is also a lack of work-life balance, as employees are often called in on days off due to staff shortages. Employees have also reported that management does not advocate for them and that communication is not always good. They have also noted that the pay rate is low and that the facility is often understaffed. Employees have also reported that the security system is an issue and that the training is too automated. Advice to management includes improving communication, fostering staff development, enhancing benefits, and stopping taking credit for work that the front-line workers conduct.Healthcare Nearby

The staff gives good care to the residents. They are treated with love and dignity. They are able to handle residents with strong personalities. It is design as home feel. They always encourage residents to participate in activities. The food could taste better. Overall I'm please with how my mother is being care for.
If you want your loved one to be safe and cared for, don’t place them here. My mother had 7 trips to the ER in less then 4 months for falls. The last 2 resulted in a broken nose and a TBI within 2 weeks. There is not enough staff to care for them. To add insult to injury, they debited my father’s account for the month she wasn’t there and refunded a portion even though she was in the hospital due to their negligence. They sent me a “release” to sign absolving them of any responsibility in order to refund my father for the 10 days her bed and dresser was in the room. They are disgraceful! My mother was placed in May and had so many injuries and bruises in those 4 months. She ended up in the trauma unit at Norfolk General her last fall. Not enough staff to care for the residents. They really sold themselves and I regret placing my mom there. We moved her to another facility and it’s been a month with no incidents. At Brookdale, it was 2 week when the incidents started.
Our dad has been here since the beginning of the 2020 and he loves the facility and the staff. Hes not one to mince words so I know he really does🤣. Our family also loves and appreciate the care and attention he is getting. We can call anytime if we have questions or if we want to speak or video chat with him. We also are welcome to meet with anyone when needed if we have concerns. We are very serious about our Dads well being. So we chose Brookdale because they specialize in his illness. Since the pandemic is present, they assure us all the time about the sanitizing and precautions they take to make sure our Dad is safe.
Expert care facility with professional systems and processes in place to meet all requirements and needs plus open arms and a big heart. Clean, creative, cheerful, delicious meals, caring, warm staff, passion, patience, plans in place to fit growing needs, beautiful outdoor gardens, patios, flowers, also including medical attention staff that is elite. Keeping my Mommy safe through thick and thin. I really appreciate prior to as well as through this ongoing crisis how you all have been tirelessly keeping us all up to date via emails, calls, meetings and following guidelines for continuing success. THANK YOU. Mommy is so very happy and safe. BIG LOVE and endless thanks. GRATEFUL.
I did some serious research on communities before moving my Aunt to VA. This was the best decision for her. This is more than a home, but extended family. The address any questions that may come up pertaining to my Aunt's care, etc. All staff (administration, managers, nurses, medtechs, culinary, housekeeping & beyond) are greatly appreciated.
I want to personally thank all of the nurses, medtecs and everyone at Brookdale for taking such wonderful care of my Granny from the moment she got there to the moment she passed away last night! This group is such a special group of people who really care and they sure showed that with my granny! They loved her and she sure loved them, hospice included in here as well! Since my Granny has been there my family has developed so many relationships with staff and residents and will continue to come back and volunteer. My children loved it there and they brought it to my attention that we should keep going back in Granny's memory! I love you all and just can't express my gratitude adequately enough!
Brookdale is GREAT! One of the program managers really strives at making sure the patients are well cared for and have lots of activities to attend to. Brookdale is a place I would recommend to anyone looking to have peace of mind regarding their loved ones. Brookdale is an amazing place. You wont be disappointed.
My father walked into Brookdale VB and left out in an Ambulance 3 months later due to their negligence. Do your due diligence and read the long list of complaints filed against them on the Social Services website (VDSS) before you send your loved one here. I wish I did.Response to owner:The Ops Director’s remedy to my father having seizures, due to being unattended without oxygen too long, was money back for the time after he left. She was more interested in making sure he didn’t come back.
