Employee Reviews for Ensign Services in Whittier, California
1 out of 5 stars. Based on 1 reviews
Employees of Ensign Services in the Whittier, CA area have had a largely negative experience working for the company. Management is seen as terrible, with high turnover among administrators and no respect or appreciation for staff. Employees feel that management does not back them up and that lazy staff get away with safety hazards. There is also no opportunity for advancement. The only thing management seems to care about is the money in their pockets. The only positive aspect of the job is that the patients are fun. However, employees are given no breaks, are understaffed, overworked, and underpaid.Employee Reviews for Ensign Services
2.97 out of 5 stars. Based on 442 reviews
Employees of Ensign Services report a great environment, benefits, and friendly staff. However, they also mention a fast pace, location issues, lack of competitive pay, poor management, limited resources for help, low pay for the work they do, rude residents, lack of structure and non-defined responsibilities, lack of transparency, nepotism, and a lack of appreciation for employees. Advice to management includes being more empathetic and listening to employees, putting patients first, not profit, hiring for talent, not just bodies, and creating more lower level office staff to help ease the burden off administration and nursing.Information from Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services

My mom was admitted here after surgery. She feels very comfortable and secure in her stay and recovery. I would like to thank Hannah, Art, Jeannie, Sandy, Frank, Isabel, Hong, May Y and the entire staff for the sincere care and support extended to us. May you be blessed for all the kindness shown us.
My mom stayed for 30 days at this facility for after care surgery. The staff were very professional and compassionate with her. I was especially impressed with their HR Personnel. . The Administrator "Art" went beyond the call of duty to ensure that my mom had proper care. My family and I were so grateful for helping our family because we had so many questions about my mom's condition and care. I would definitely recommend this place for families who have concerns about their elderly loved one and that they are in the best of hands by the staff and administration.
With the exception of one specific employee, "Porfey" (not sure of the spelling), I will say that we were beyond satisfied with the care, cleanliness, and professionalism of this facility, even through the Covid era. I applaud their excellence and can only hope they address the bad apple because we were very happy there for more than 6 years. Thank you for the attention and hospitality and the efforts in taking care of our loved one. Like I said, other than Porfey (who doesn't belong in the profession), I give Whittier Hills 5 stars.
Note: very delayed review due to the happenings since my mother's visit here.More than a little interesting that the past year's reviews are all 5 stars and mostly written by people who have wrote less than a handful of reviews. My mother was admitted during December 2019. She was transferred from a different hospital to here after being diagnosed with pancreatitis. Her recovery was supposed to occur at Whittier Hills Healthcare Center, where they were to monitor her so that she could eventually get well enough to start her chemo.Place seemed clean enough, and I was able to get my questions answered depending if I was able to find a nurse. Front desk had you sign in, though there wasn't any high security or anything that would have prevented anyone from walking straight in. Parking lot is very run down, so you'll know you're at the right spot when you hear the gravel get embedded into your tires. The equipment they have weren't the best out there, and were a little aged, but they seemed to at least function. My mother was here for around two weeks, where her mind degraded quite a bit. Remember, she was here to recover from her pancreatitis, so why would her mental faculties degrade and/or why would she become lethargic? I get a call on a late evening that they're transferring her back to the hospital because the nurses were saying that she wasn't responding to questions earlier that day. In the following early morning, I get a call that my mom was sent to the nearby hospital ER and is in urgent care. Apparently, her potassium levels were low enough where her heart stopped once she got to the hospital, and they had to resuscitate her to get her heart going again. Then they had her stay on a potassium drip for I think around a week to get her back to normal levels. She did have to stay at the hospital for quite some time, and was eventually discharged to go home, but it took a few weeks. My mother has essentially been traumatized since this visit. Any time that she goes to the hospital and there's a possible hint that she needs to be transferred to an acute center or a rehabilitation center, she panics and vehemently wishes to go home. She wants nothing to do with nursing homes, and has made it very clear with any doctor she meets that she never wants to come back here. So, if you're looking for a nursing home to take a peek in on the residents from time to time, but the residents are pretty independent, then I'm sure Whittier Hills is a good facility for that. But if you have a family member that needs a little extra care, this doesn't seem to be the best place for them.
I have my mother in law at Whittier Hills for therapy after a fall from home. She got motivated to do exercises everyday and encourage her to eat and sleep well. We want to thank therapists. Social workers and nurses for their dedication during this difficult time. I'll recommend this rehab center for my family and friends.
First of all I want to say thank you to all the wonderful staffs! I had my grandpa stay at this facility for a while and he would always tell me how wonderful the staffs treated him and how nice the facility was.At first I was a little worried about sending my grandpa to a health center that I have never been to, but then after speaking with a few of the staff members there, I knew these members were professional and caring.Thank you for everything!!
Spent a couple of weeks here in Feb 2017, after a week in a lesser facility, following surgery for a tibial plateau fracture and surgery. Staff was accommodating, but I didn't get a shower until I had been there more than a week.Food was PATHETIC. Didn't even have nonfat milk as a regular item. Miserable. If it hadn't been for friends and family who brought real food every couple of days, I would have been "climbing the walls."
Whittier Hills Healthcare center has been amazing to my family caring for my aunt. Isabel the activity director is always so friendly and goes out of her way to accommodate. Frank Centeno the dietician supervisor made sure my aunts meals we're given according to her special diet. Most importantly all the staff was friendly and answered any questions that we had while my aunt stayed there. Great center for your loved ones!
As a podiatrist I've seen patients and admitted patients to this facility. Their administration and nursing staff are excellent. I would feel very comfortable if my family member stayed here. They take great care of the patients and answer all the questions from family members. The facility is kept well. This is a five star facility.
My family and I were very grateful to have found this facility after my mom had surgery and needed recovery time. The amazing social services department made sure to address all our questions, put our minds at ease, and helped get her transitioned into the facility smoothly. Also, we were very grateful for the compassionate staff who cared for our mom, they treated her like she was their own (her nurse even called her mamma). Thank you Whittier Hills for the exceptional care you provided. For this our family is truly indebted. Pros:Very clean Scheduled daily activities Caring staff Cons: Can't think of any since we had no issues or concerns
I have to say through all of this gong on. My Mom has been getting excellent care. They are doing all they can to make this pandemic a little easier. The activities director Isabel and staff has been great. The center trys hard to keep communications with families. I recommended this center.
My loved one has been at Whittier Hills for almost a year, and in that time, I have gotten to know many of the staff from the nurses, CNAs, Administrators, and all frontline staff. To say that their level of care is exceptional would not entirely give this facility and staff justice. Whittier Hills is beyond exceptional. They have made my loved one's time there far easier to endure and have made our family truly feel as though our loved one is right at home. Any time spent in a skilled nursing facility can obviously be a challenge for any family, but Whittier Hills has done all it can to make us feel secure in knowing our loved one receives the upmost of care. During this difficult time of the COVID-19 pandemic, the challenges of entrusting a loved one to any nursing facility can stretch one's limits. But, Whittier Hills has proven my trust in them to do the right thing as they have and continue to take all necessary precautions to keep their residents and all staff safe and secure. There are plenty of skilled nursing facilities in the area, but I would recommend Whittier Hills above the rest.
Many people I know of have received very good care from the nursing and therapy staff. With all the things going on in the world, I know they are doing the best they can to provide care during this very tough time.Often times they work with very complex medical conditions and while nobody can stop the plan of God, they do their best to make the process smoother. I appreciate their effort.
Our mother was moved to Whittier Hill Healthcare Center for physical rehab following hospitalization for a fall. The entire Whittier Hills team was amazing. Truly amazing. Exceptional rehab therapists, unbelievably caring social services team and the general care givers were all a delight. And as if that couldn't get any better, after our Mom had been there for about a month, the entire team worked together to help us accomplish the difficult challenge of moving our Mom a great distance, so that she could be closer to family members for her extended recovery.I know we are going to miss some one in this, but special thanks to Hoang, Hannah, Jeannie, Mark, Calvin and Lauren for making the near impossible look easy -- and for obviously caring deeply about our Mom's welfare. We only wish the Whittier Hills Healthcare Center was nearer our home. You all are THE BEST and we are forever grateful for your great care and gracious support,Your friends in the Napa Valley.
I arrived here at Whittier Hills Health Care Center on February 19th last month. I was homeless with Cancer staying in a temporary homeless shelter in Whittier, which was very nice, although I need to be in a Facility like this because I have Cancer and a very bad back and neck injury. And I need 24 hr Nursing Care which I am receiving here. I have nothing but good things to say about this place. At least that's how I feel, and I grew up here in Whittier my whole life, being considered kind of a little rich boy. And I will say this much. This place is great! I have nothing bad or negative to say about this place. If other people do, then they aren't appreciative of a nice and safe environment where you are being taken care of 24-hrs a day. We have physical therapy, medical treatment, good food, and courteous, loving and caring staff that will go the extra mile to accommodate your needs to make you as comfortable as possible. I'm glad I'm here awaiting my Chemotherapy, many Dr's appointments, my 10 hr operation, and the physical therapy I'm going to need after this is all over. So thank you Whittier Hills Health Care Center and thank you to whoever got me into this awesome place. Keep up the good work! Shon Michael Kobzeff 😄! Today is Saturday, April 3rd. I've been here over a month now. I still really like it here. I'm still having tests done. I've had a Pet Scan done since I've been here, and a day or so ago, I had some imaging done. Definition, I've been inside more machines, lol! The Dr's want to make sure I don't have anymore Cancer/has mine spread? Keep me in Prayer as well as everyone else here, staff included. Prayers work, and it can't hurt, lol! I wanted to add to this and say "Hello," and thank you very much for calling me and letting me know about the things I am eligible for through my insurance company. Anika, you are a great Insurance representative, thank you for the info, and thank you for listening to me tell you about my views on life, and about a couple of my wacky adventure stories, when we spoke when I was at Whittier Hospital last week or so. You are the greatest, and Allied should know that you did your job wonderfully when we spoke. Kudos to you 😃! Keep up the good work Anika, Shon Kobzeff, (Patient at Whittier Hills Health Care Center, Whittier CA 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 treatment)
Excellent facility. Good customer service. Excellent staff members. Takes good care of my wife that has a left cab. All the staff have been really helpful to me and my wife. Excellent therapy service especially Mark the director and therapists - Jade, Calvin from rehab., they are very skillful, knowledgeable, patient.., Chinese speaking.., as well., because of their commitments working with my wife because of that., she is getting healing and improvement., thank you therapy team! We stayed here in Whittier because of you guys!
Whittier Hills Healthcare Center is a great facility with great people! I had the pleasure of interning at this facility under the supervision of the administrative team and they are great people driven to provide the best care to their residents. I strongly recommend this healthcare facility to anyone who has a loved one in need of healthcare services, Whittier Hills is the place to be.
First of all I want to say thank you to all the wonderful staffs! Was worried about having to have my husband in a SNF but my fears were relieved on the first day when specialist came in to check on him shortly after he arrived. The therapy he received was great and he will be coming home much sooner than expected. The staff is professionsl, friendly and caring.
This facility is a nice little hidden gem. I was able to meet with the staff outside of the facility and I could not have been more impressed with the way the staff treated me as a person. i can only imagine how they will treat my mother. Definately a go to place if you have the need to place your loved one in a skilled nursing center.
I have my mother in law at Whittier Hills for therapy after a fall at home. She got motivated to do exercises everyday and encourage her to eat and sleep well. We want to thank therapists, social workers and nurses for their dedication during this difficult time. I’ll recommend this rehab center for my family and friends.
