Do you guys currently have a waitlist?
Yes, we do have a waitlist for Long-Term Care. Due to the type of industry this is, there is no set time for how long it would be to get to the top of the waitlist. There is no order to explain it simply. It depends on our availability and your loved ones’ needs.
Could you provide an overview of the types of professionals on your staff and the training they undergo at your facility?
We have our Medical Director, Nurse Practitioner, a wound doctor, several RNs and CNAs, Director of Nursing, Assistant Director of Nursing, we have our Activities Director, me (Admissions/Marketing), our Social Worker, we have several rehab staff who work under our Director of Rehab, and our housekeeping and kitchen staff. We all get the opportunity to get CPR certified at the facility. Regarding continued training, that I cannot speak of because we do not have programs. The only programs that involve training, is the medical school program that comes in weekly to help our nurses and aides. They learn from our staff.
Could you tell me about the measures you have in place to ensure the safety and well-being of your residents?
For the safety of our residents, we have two separate nurse stations (we have two wings). There is always someone walking around checking in on the residents making sure they are okay. Also, we have wandergards that they wear. What this is, if they were to step anywhere near an exit, the doors lock, and the alarms go off until a staff member (who knows the code) can turn it off.
Do you offer any resources or support services to aid residents' transition into the community?
Yes, we have a psychiatrist that comes in once a week, as well as we can connect them with a therapist from the community to talk to.
Do you offer transportation services for residents?
This depends on where they are going. We do have a shuttle bus that, if necessary, we can bring residents to their appointments. Typically, we book transportation to appointments via their insurance.
Could you tell me a little about your dining experience?
So, since this is a skilled nursing facility, it will look different than your assisted living facilities. We have one dining room where residents who would like to eat there, can. The rest of the residents, eat in their rooms. We do have aides and kitchen staff there to serve the residents. If there is a dietary need, we make sure that they are accommodated.
What is the process that takes place if a resident has a complaint or an issue they want addressed?
There are a variety of ways the resident can do this. The first one is, we have a grievance form that they can fill out right in front of the Social Worker’s office. From there, she would investigate further. Our Activities Director also holds a monthly Resident Council where the residents can voice what they would like to see at the facility and their concerns. Lastly, they can go to any one of our staff and let us know. If they have a concern, we need to make sure it is addressed.
What is the cost of living in your community?
For our facility, if they were to be long-term, they usually have Medicaid, or they are private pay. Some residents do have a long-term insurance payor through an insurance carrier like UnitedHealth Care. Our 2024 rates are $421/day. We require a 30day check prior to admission ($12,630). To be honest, this is much cheaper than what I have seen across the board.
What is your policy on communication with resident's families? How do you keep them updated about their loved ones' well-being?
Communication is key. Whenever anything happens, we let the family know. We also just implemented a monthly newsletter. I send it via email, as well as post it all over our facility so if families do not get the email, they get to read it while they are visiting their loved ones. You could also communicate any of your concerns to any of our staff. Obviously we must abide by HIPPA.
Do you all offer short-term or respite stays? How much does this cost?
We do offer short-term and respite stays. Short-term is typically for those who need rehab (physical therapy, occupational therapy or speech therapy). There is no set price for this since it depends on the needs of the patient. The $12,630 is for the room and board, but the rehab sessions could be (for an example) $100 per session. That would be due to the facility. Usually prior to admission, we go for authorization from the resident’s insurance and see if they would pay. They are usually the payors in this instance. For respite stays, that is all private pay and would be the $12,630 still. We can do less, but we can discuss that more if necessary. It can be situation-based.
Are you all a pet-friendly community?
We do allow dogs to visit (you must bring the updated list of shots and other necessary paperwork prior to bringing your dog into the facility). Pets are not allowed to stay with the resident. (Trust me, I wish, because then I would have so many pets to visit everyday) 😊
Are residents able to get Covid vaccination and flu vaccinations in the community?
Yes!!! Our Assistant Director of Nursing is amazing and is on top of making sure that anyone that wants those vaccines can receive them!!
Are residents able to age in place?
Yes, if they come in for long-term, they are part of our family! Yes, we do have a waitlist for Long-Term Care. Due to the type of industry this is, there is no set time for how long it would be to get to the top of the waitlist. There is no order to explain it simply. It depends on our availability and your loved ones’ needs.
