Staffing
In our Assisted Living and Memory Care, we always have at least one CNA/CMA per "wing" (6 in total). We also have a nurse on call during the nights and weekends. Nurses will be on site during normal business hours. All of our CNA/CMAs are licensed by the state. For the past couple of months, we haven't had to reach out to any agencies to bring in extra staff for coverage.
Keeping Our Residents Safe
Each resident in the building is given a pendant to wear around their neck. They can push it in an emergency and a staff member will come to assist them within a few minutes. Residents in AL/MC have routine checks during the day and nights, medication distribution is done in their apartment for privacy, and we complete a care level assessment annually, or if we notice large changes in the care needed, to ensure we are not exceeding the care we can provide safely.
Resources to Aid Transition
As far as resources to aid transition, there isn't anything official. In our Independent Living, we have a Welcome Comm. where each new resident is assigned a mentor to help show them around the community. In our AL/MC, we typically just alert the activities staff of a new resident to help ensure extra encouragement is given to take part in activities.
Transportation
We offer unlimited transportation to medical appointments in town Monday through Friday. We have two minivans and a bus available for transportation. The service is drop off only. If a staff accompaniment is needed to attend an appointment, there is a charge (I believe it is $40 per hour).
Dining
In AL, all meals and a daily snack are provided. Our dining room operates more like a dine-in restaurant. Meals are served at specific times, but all residents eat in the dining room (unless ill). Each meal residents can choose from a salad or soup, between two entrees, and a dessert.
Addressing Complaints and Concerns
If someone has a complaint or concern, you can bring it directly to the nursing staff. Families can call anytime. It may take a few hours for the nurse to have some time to sit and discuss the issue with family, but it will be addressed.
Cost of Living
In our brochure, which I've attached, you can find pricing for each care we offer. Our AL starts at $5,500 and goes up to about $6,500. That cost is determined by the nurse's assessment. We offer 3 levels of care and the care package assigned by our nurse includes everything your family member needs (with the exception of the cost of medications, using the beauty salon, Bistro, or outside trips).
Family Communication
This one I really don't know the answer. I don't think there is a specific answer. If the family has a concern, they can give us a call. If we have a concern about your family member, we will reach out to you.
Respite
We would rather not do short term respite care, but we are flexible if we have the apartments available. All of our apartments come unfurnished though. Our apartments operate off of a 30 day notice to vacate policy.
Pets
We are a pet-friendly community in that pets can come to VISIT in AL/MC. Our Independent residents are allowed to bring a pet, but not in AL or MC. We all love having dogs come to visit though.
Age in Place
Yes. We offer 3 levels of care in our AL setting. It is our desire to hold onto our residents in their current home as long as possible and appropriate. We keep a close eye on our residents and do our best to prepare families for an impending move though. We will work with you to help you find placement if higher levels of care are needed. We don't have Skilled Nursing in our community though.
Apartment Availability
We currently have one apartment open. This varies quite a bit though. We have been full for a few months but now have 2 more about to open up. We encourage families to fill out an application, so we have everything on hand when something does come available. We don't collect a deposit on a room until we have one vacant to offer you.
Moving to a Retirement Community
Moving to a retirement community is one of the most important decisions people can make for themselves or their family. It can also be the beginning of an exciting new chapter in life.
