Community Insights
This detailed information was obtained directly from the Community Director at The Inn At Olentangy Trail via email on Nov. 15, 2023.
Community Overview
We have a multitude of individuals that work in our community. I am the Community Director and oversee day to day operation of the community, address needs/concerns of families, and oversee all managers and department heads. I am a Physical Therapist Assistant by background. I have an Executive Director that oversees this community as well as one of our sister communities. She is usually here half the week and is a Licensed Nursing home administrator.
Our Team
We have a Director of Nursing, an Assistant Director of Nursing, multiple floor nurses, certified medication aides, nurse aides, a Dietary Manager, multiple cooks, servers, a maintenance supervisor, housekeeping supervisor, and multiple housekeepers. Our managers are all responsible for hiring and training in their own departments. The largest department and most time spent training is with our nurses aides department. We have “lead aides” that are on each shift and are responsible for training, along with oversight and training from our DON and ADON.
Additional Services
We offer other services that get billed through insurance including and on-site physician, nurse practitioner, podiatrist, audiologist, Physical, Occupational, and Speech therapy, and pharmacy. We also have a hairstylist in our salon for an additional cost.
Safety and Security
We do not offer 1 on 1 monitoring of residents, but we do our best to prevent falls and assure the safety of all our residents. Our memory care area is a locked, secure unit with multiple alarms in order to assure the safety of residents who wander or exit seek. We have cameras in common areas all throughout our community and everyone must enter the building through the front door only. All visitors must sign in/out and resident’s must also sign in/out when leaving. The doors are unlocked whenever a receptionist is at the front desk. 8-8 M-F and 10-6 Sat/Sun. Otherwise, all doors are locked. Families/visitors can use the call box to have a staff member come to the door if they come outside of those hours. We have ample lighting in our parking lot and in common areas of the facility.
Integration and Activities
We utilize our activity department to help residents feel welcome and integrate into our community. We have a bus that we use specifically for activity outings such as going to the store, out to eat, on a scenic drive, etc., but we do not offer one demand transportation. Many of our more independent residents utilize the Delaware Transit Authority for appointments or shopping on their own.
Dining Experience
We offer 3 meals a day, all in our community dining room. We offer a variety of foods each day with offerings of soups, salads, and a daily special. Our assisted living dining experience is restaurant style with servers who take their orders, get their drinks, etc. We have an extensive a la carte menu if residents would like alternative choices. We also offer dessert with lunch and dinner and always keep four different ice cream options on hand. We occasionally have buffets, pancake breakfasts, and food cooking demonstrations in the dining room for resident enjoyment.
Resident Council and Personal Meetings
We have a resident council meeting the first Wednesday of each month where residents can bring up concerns about any variety of issues within the community. If it is a more private or personal matter, residents can request a meeting with me anytime to address any concerns about any department. We also offer quarterly care conferences where families and residents meet with our DON to review medications, care, and more.
Cost of Living and Rate Sheet
I have enclosed a rate sheet. The cost of living here varies based on type or size of room and overall care level needs. Can vary anywhere from $4,000/month to $7,500/month depending on if you are more independent or have maximum care needs.
Family Communication and Guardian Angels
We communicate regularly with families. In addition to the quarterly care conferences, we assign each resident a “guardian angel”. This is one of our managers who reaches out to the resident and their family a minimum of once a month to make sure they are up to date on things happening. If there is any change in medical condition or any change to medical orders, a nurse will always reach out to families to update them on those specific changes.
Respite Stays
We do offer respite stays here. We do a minimum of 30 day stays in Assisted Living and a minimum of 60 day stays in Memory Care. The cost is our normal daily rate for the room size and care needs plus a $500 non refundable respite fee.
Pet Friendly Community
We are a pet friendly community. Pets can come visit on a leash anytime or residents can have a pet in their rooms if they are able to care for them. We charge a $250 pet deposit and $1/day to have a pet in the room.
Availability and Wait List
We currently do not have a wait list in memory care. I do have 3 open suites in AL, but they are all the smaller, Traditional studios. There is a wait list for deluxe studios and 1 bedroom units at this time.
