We recently had to move my grandmother into an assisted living facility simply because we couldn't give her the care she needed on a daily basis. After visiting a few places, Sunrise at Hunter Mill was by far the best. Their staff is incredibly nice and they are really good with my grandmother. They also have specialized care for Alzheimers and Dimentia patients (which would be my grandmother). The third floor is dedicated to these residents and the floor is "locked down" - you need a code to use the elevator - this is great because we don't have to worry about her wandering off. There's also a cat on the third floor named Casanova who is the sweetest kitty I've ever met. Casanova stopped by for cuddles and to inspect the room before we even got my grandmother moved in!Another thing I love about this place is that it's very easy just to stop by and visit or pick her up to take her out shopping, for lunch, or family functions. I am very pleased with our family's decision to move her into here because she is well taken care of and so many of the worries I had about her wellbeing are alleviated.
Sunrise Hunter Mill (SHM) is a very special place because of their staff - who are TRULY remarkable. I first gained insight into SHM when my son volunteered there. He talked about how nice the staff was and how much they cared for the residents. My mother suffered a stroke a number of years ago and my father, despite severe arthritis, cared for her for years. It was obvious that my father wouldn't be able to care for my mother forever and I began looking for alternatives. I approached the Director of Sales and she couldn't have been nicer or more patient. She understood my father's reluctance to relinquish my mother to SHM's care and always made me comfortable by providing in-depth answers to my questions, providing tours for my father and me and carefully explaining every aspect of SHM's care. When the time inevitably arrived when my father was no longer able to care for my mother, I moved my mother in and the time has flown by since then. It's hard to put into words the extraordinary level of sincere interest and care provided by the caregivers. The nurses stay on top of all my mother's medications. The nurse practitioner reaches out to me regularly with questions about my mother's care. The personal care staff are patient, kind and understanding with my mother's limitations. The occupational and physical therapists have made strides with my mother's mobility I didn't think were possible. The activity directors DO NOT STOP! My mother (who's mostly confined to a wheelchair) has been taken on local shopping trips, scenic drives and on lunches to dining spots in the area. Additionally, there is ALWAYS something going on at SHM whether it's group stretching exercises, painting classes, karaoke (something my mother had never, ever, ever done before and now loves), cooking classes, musical presentations, games and even bible study classes. Also my mother loves the food. The building is nice and the location is great...but what makes SHM amazing is the incredible staff that obviously and genuinely cares about doing the best job they can.
Worst hiring experience ever, I was to the interview in September, with a woman called Simone, she send me to do my TB and physical tests, and then when they're done she said to call her back to setup the schedule...This is what I did but surprise she doesn't answer my calls anymore...I called the facility to find out what's going on, they keep telling me lies about the hiring process which can last between 4 to 6 weeks, bla bla bla....it's been over 5 months...stupid people
My mother lived at Sunrise of Hunter Mill in Oakton for 3.5 years. She greatly enjoyed her stay. The staff at Sunrise gave my mother the best of care and truly made her happy. She was meticulously bathed and dressed. Her hair and nails regularly done too! Prior to covid the residents were routinely taken out to lunch and long drives. During covid the staff did everything they could to keep everyone safe. Sunrise probably had the fewest cases of covid nationwide. They locked down immediately and made sure the residents did not contract this deadly disease. The staff also made sure my mother had many activities. She looked forward to the many art and bingo sessions and sang along with the other residents everyday before mealtime. I have no doubt that the staff at Sunrise gave my mother many extra years of life! Thank you Sunrise. From the grateful daughter of "Luba from Cuba"
The Sunrise Team is extraordinarily kind and responsive! I had to move my mother into the Reminiscence Floor in the midst of COVID; I was a mess. But the Sima, the Wellness Coordinator, held my hand through the process. She promised to take excellent care of my mom, and she called me regularly with updates to ease my anxiety. My mom has adjusted well to her new environment, and especially likes her caretakers and the activity coordinators, Kitty and Hazel. My mom receives excellent care, and I am so appreciative of Isha and her team.
My husband has been at Sunrise at Hunter Mill for almost 4 years. He first needed the care and assisted living experience but is now in Memory Care. The staff here are incredible. They 'love' each one of their residents and do everything possible to make their stay a peaceful and fulfilling one. My husband will live the rest of his days at this facility and I can't think of a more caring place for him to do so. All of the staff and especially those responsible for his care are pretty amazing!
Through a process of interviewing/touring facilities and references from friends I converged on Sunrise at Hunter Mill to move my 94 yo mother into in August of 2020 (during Covid). She had been at an out of state facility and then in a Nursing Facility for a bone fracture. Being at Sunrise has revitalized her. The staff is truly caring and has accommodated her needs for assistance with activities of daily living while keeping her in contact with her out of state friends and church by Zoom and arranged for concerts and scenic bus trips. They have done everything they could within the rules for us to stay connected with her during Covid. I would highly recommend this place to my friends as my friends did for me.
Team work is definitely practiced here at this location. Each employee has a common goal to provide a safe, healthy, fun, caring and positive experience while living at Sunrise. My brother has been a resident for three years. The food is very good here, we LOVE having access to a doctor, a podiatrist, a dentist, a physical therapist and a hairdresser right at the facility. As we are slowly coming out of the COVID phase it is exciting to see the facility open up and activities resume off the premises.
Both my Mom and Dad spent a year at Sunrise of Hunter Mill. The staff is a very caring bunch of people who did a good job taking care of the residents during the pandemic. It goes without saying that this was a difficult time for all involved but Sunrise was able to make it the best experience possible.
I have visited many Sunrise facilities in the Northern Virginia area and like most, they provide a wealth of compassion and care for the sector citizens in our communities. The Sunrise of Hunter Mill is no different than the others. My visit here was very pleasant and the staff the same. The rooms for the seniors are not too small, but comfortable with the aneurysm of a small apartment of likewise accommodations. This location was quiet and file with a caring staff on premise. Ideally, when a family decides they want to place a senior loved one into an assisted living facility they are looking for a location like the Sunrise at Hunter Mill located in Oakton, VA.
From the moment we walked into Sunrise Hunter Mill we knew it would be a wonderful place for our mom to live. We were greeted with sunny smiles, a warm environment, upbeat music, and an abundance of activity for the residents. Our mom had dementia. As the disease progressed the staff at Sunrise educated us and worked with us through the transition of Assisted Living to the Reminiscence Level. Without their expertise we would have been so lost. The transition to the Reminiscence level was seamless after a well thought out and formulated plan to execute the move. As the months went on the disease took over her beautiful independence and she required constant care. The team upstairs along with Vitas hospice, as well as those who helped care for her on the Assisted living level worked together to make sure her transition to life's end was as comfortable and peaceful as possible.Sunrise Hunter Mill is staffed with patient, competent, loving, caring professionals. They have huge hearts and helped our family immensely through an extremely difficult end of life process. They became our family and cared for our mom as if she were their own. We are forever indebted to Sunrise Hunter Mill. The gift the staff gave us ensuring our moms dignity was preserved as she faded away is priceless; 5 starts doesn't even begin to give enough due credit to this facility!
My brother has been a resident at Sunrise of Hunter Mill since the middle of June due to a stroke. The therapists and staff did a remarkable job and he went from a wheelchair to walking with a cane in five weeks.Unfortunately he had a second stroke and needs 24/7 care. I am so grateful he is at Sunrise. Because of the amazing staff, from the directors to the aids I am able to have peace of mind. In the beginning I thought I had to be there all the time to make sure he was cared for. It wasn't long before I realized how kind and caring the entire staff is with all of the residents. They go well beyond what their job description calls for.I want to thank everyone at Sunrise for helping me and my family get through a difficult time
