This is the worst place in the world to send a love one for care. They do not answer phone calls, they take over two hours to answer call lights. They are short staffed, they have No processes for coordinating physical therapy for the patients being ready when they show up to take them to therapy. My mom needed pain medicine and it took from 5:40 PM at 9:00 am the next morning to get her pain medicine. They claim there pharmacy process takes that long. They caused my mom to end up back in the hospital due to their lack of knowledge to take care of her, then they had the nerve to tell me she had to return to them after the hospital released her. I told them over my dead body she would ever return to this disorganized place that is not set up to care for animals let alone humans.
I wish i could give 0 stars. This place should be shut down. Nurses are RUDE, never return phone calls/answer phone. My grandfather was there for two weeks to help him walk better, they never took him out of his bed. He's also on oxygen and they sent him home on 7 liters of oxygen (he's only able to come home on 3), they lied and said he was on 3 liters when he wasn't. They sent home a man who can't walk & can barely breathe.. What kind of "rehab" center does that ?! just disgusting. y'all should be ashamed of yourselves.
I am dismayed by the treatment my husband received during his 3 weeks of rehab. Communication was HORRIFIC. IF there was a return phone call (you only get voicemail), it took DAYS. Most of the time, there was no return phone call. This is true of EVERY department except PT. I received regular updates from PT. THE sad part is, what was reported to me was not true. My husband was not anywhere near as strong as what was reported to me. I received no instruction for home, no recommendations for private home care workers (though promised to me and to Medicare navigators). Ridiculous drugs prescribed (3 different stool softeners AND something for diarrhea....HELLO!). Referral to home health care which is to begin 24 to 48 hrs following discharge was not ordered for 4 days and then there was no doctor signature so it was invalid. They sent him home in a diaper so wet it was dripping AND there was a note inside that I had written him a week prior.....How? His belongings were shoved in a box with no indication of clean/dirty....nothing folded...ridiculous. I could go on but you get it. Not being able to see him was bad enough but knowing that his treatment was so poor and I couldn't tell is breaking my heart. A lovely facility and smooth talking admins, BUT RUN THE OTHER WAY!!!!
Nobody knows what is going on! I get told a different story every time I call about my sister. So far, her social worker is the only one to return a phone call. It's very hard to talk with anyone. I keep leaving messages & no one calls me back. I leave requests with the staff, they say that it's noted in her file, but it still keeps happening! Thank God she has just a few more days & she's out of there!
Always very short staffed on both nurses and aides. Typically takes 2-3 hours before a call light is answered. This has been a non-stop problem. Physical therapy wrongly charts patient has refused therapy, yet in fact, they are so short-staffed, there's no aide to take the patient to Physical Therapy. Thereby, wrongly making the patient lose their PT benefits. The aides and nurses have been walking around for several, several weeks without PPEs, masks, etc. Several patients at Regency now have Covid. Stop paying the nurses and aides so little and understaffing the place. One nurse and one aid cannot care for the entire place. If you like to be neglected and have long wait times, Regency is your place. Shame on you, Regency.
If I could go lower I would. Multiple issues with the food and the staff. My father was served an egg salad sandwich on a croissant-with mold on it. Lost his dinner order and sent him a chicken salad sandwich instead-could have called his room phone and asked what he wanted instead of assuming. Food was the lowest form of low grade school food. Food was never hot, barely even warm by the time it reached my dads room. CNAs on staff were slow to respond to call buttons average time-40 minutes. Staff was rude at times, physically pulling food from his hand when is was something he "wasn't supposed to have" when it had actually been ok'd by nutritionist for him to try.Staff was lethargic when walking the halls, no sense of urgency or pride in the job they do. Trash in bathroom was not emptied for three days, to the point of overflowing. On his last day he had an accident trying to get to the bathroom (Number 2) at 7am. Feces was still on the floor at 11am with pieces of paper towel covering it. I have documented all this and have pictures. I will be going to Beaumont to let them know this facility should not be on their "Preferred rehab facility list". If you can, avoid this place like the plague.
If I could give this establishment a zero, I would. My mother who suffered from dementia & diabetes, received poor to mediocre treatment (at best) from all of the medical & administrative staff at this facility during her short stay (approximately 3 months). I have documented numerous incidents (to include pictures) of poor medical & personal attention provided by the nurses, aides, PA, administration & most specifically, the visiting Doctor. And I personally believe that the lack of proper medical attention was a contributing factor in my Mom's death 3 months after we had her transferred out of this awful facility.Issues included her being left sleeping in a horizontal position in the common area in a hospital gown with no socks, meals left to get cold 3 feet from her bed where she couldn't reach them after she woke up from a nap, not being changed as scheduled resulting in soaking wet pants & bed linens, missed meals, no water on her bedside table, hearing aids lost (eventually found in the laundry but totally destroyed & nursing home refused to reimburse), missed treatments for leg edema, etc. Here is a synopsis of Mom's last month at the Regency at Shelby:* Feb 18th: I informed Nurse Manager that Mom's legs were getting bigger & redder. Told her that the Nurse also noticed the change in her legs. I was concerned about cellulitis. Asked her to call doctor.* Feb 20th: As of 7:30am, no visit yet. Texted the doctor (Dr. Malaz Alatassi) & asked him to.... Please check on my mother as soon as possible. I'm concerned about cellulitis & dehydration. My sister, one of the facility nurses & I all noticed that her legs have gotten bigger since she was taken off her diuretic & potassium. Her legs also seem to be a little more red than usual. Also, even though she has been doing well since our consult on 2/10, she was notably confused during my recent visit on 2/18. After a couple glasses of water at dinner, she came back around. I don't think she's being encouraged to drink enough fluids throughout the day ~ especially with the building being abnormally hot for the last couple days. (I was told told that Maintenance was addressing the problem, but it seems to be an ongoing issue). Please let me know what your findings are after you see her. I'll be waiting for your call. Thank you.* Feb 20th: At 7:31am, Dr. Alatassi replied "OK"* Feb 23rd: At 12:38pm, texted Dr. Alatassi and stated .... I understand my Mom is going to Henry Ford Hospital. Is today the first time you checked on her?* Feb 23rd: At 1:15pm, Dr. Alatassi replied that he saw her last on Feb 10th. WHAT ?!?!?! * Feb 23rd: At 21:21pm, texted Dr. Alatassi and stated .... But I asked you on 2/20 if you could check on her as soon as possible. You said ok. I knew her legs were red & getting bigger. I was hoping it wouldn't take 3-1/2 days to check on her. Maybe this problem could have been avoided. I'm concerned. NO FURTHER RESPONSE/CONTACT FROM DR. ALATASSI* Feb 23rd: Mom was admitted to Henry Ford Hospital & diagnosed with CELULITIS, UTI, PNEUMONIA & FLU!!! HOW DID SHE GET TO THAT POINT???? I made several visits & filed several complaints with Management asking for answers! All I got was lip service. Not a single person had an explanation & no action was ever taken against Dr. Alatassi (who never spoke to the family after my Mom was taken to the hospital). It was like it never happened. Nothing.Mom never bounced back after that & we were forced to put her under hospice care. We refused to send her back to the Nursing Home from Hell. She was transferred to Fraser Villa where she received the compassionate & professional care/treatment she deserved before she died 3 months later.DO NOT SEND YOUR LOVED ONES HERE unless you want to stay around the clock to ensure their safety & well being. If they are nonverbal or suffer from Dementia/Alzheimers, they will definitely be neglected!!
There is nothing skilled about this facility. My mother was there for rehab after shoulder replacement. She was to be there for a few weeks. It ended up being less than 24 hours. She called me crying saying she wanted to leave. They left her in the bathroom soiled unattended, screwed up her medicine, d idnt put ice in her ice machine for shoulder pack over 12 hours, d idnt take her to eat breakfast and when she asked about breakfast they brought her cold food. DroppeId off the tray and left her. When confronted they made excuse after excuse. They refused to release her medical papers up on leaving.
My mother was at Regency of Shelby for more than 6 weeks after her hip and wrist surgeries. My Is 83 and she had a great experience. The staff are very good and the room was very convenient and spacious. Initially there was lot of pain, but because of excellent physical therapy she was able to come out of it rather quickly. The PT staff were very friendly and caring with tons of encouragement. The nursing care was also very good. My mother expresses her personal thanks and regards to everybody. The initial admission and the final discharge process were extremely smooth with no issues.
It’s a shame that this place has really gone down hill. My mother is in there now. How many times do you need to ask them to bathe her before filling a complaint. 9 times we asked them. How long does she have to sit on the toilet before someone comes in to help her off the toilet. Over an hour before I showed up to get her off myself. The food doesn’t even look edible and she says it tastes awful. Smells bad too. Then when something is said she gets nothing to eat at all. It’s after 8 pm and she text me that she still hasn’t gotten anything to eat. The thermostat in her room doesn’t work so she freezes then sweats. Nothing in between. They have been on notice and they say it’s on order. I order supplies for an organization and we get our supplies in a couple days. It’s been longer then a couple days notice. Go to Home Depot with petty cash acct and get one. If she gets pneumonia from this that $100 thermostat will become a very expense bad decision. Still waiting for a riser on her toilet too. I guess I will complain to my friends that work for the state so they can review their license. If this is happening to my mother, I can’t imagine what’s happening to the other patients in there that don’t have family coming to visit them. DONT GIVE EXCUSES ABOUT NOT HAVING ENOUGH STAFF. Hire some. There are people wanting to work. Looking for work.
In case you are thinking of coming here reading the reviews from 3 years ago and wondering if this place has changed it has probably gotten worse. A family member was transferred here recently and is a diabetic. She was offered nutritious dinner of peanut butter and Cheez-it’s and was told to go out and get McDonald’s. Even if she ate she didn’t get any insulin. Looks can be deceiving and in this case they really are. we were told they do not count carbs there. could not find a walker for her to use or a tv remote!
Regency at Shelby is a great place to come to after a hospital stay to get better before going straight home. Things are a little different with covid protocols in place, but the Regency team is caring and gets you feeling better quickly to get you back home. Would recommend to anyone who needs a short rehab stay!
I am so shocked how rude the aides and the staff are to the patients. My father would put me on the phone to listen and it’s very concerning. He is not able to do much himself and they are not willing to help at all. They shut the door and won’t come back for hours. He asked for a towel and it was thrown on the floor, and he is not mobile at all. I wish we would of taken him elsewhere. They need to be investigated for neglect and abuse.
My experience was awesome! The House keeping Manager is nothing short of amazing.I've worked there for a little over a year and my manager Mrs.Tiff was very accommodating and understanding I never had any problems with my teammates/coworkers I can truly say I love them all. Thank you Regency for the opportunity I truly enjoyed my work family experience.
I have not slept since April 7th 2020. This day my mom passed in this home. I got a call from there saying my mom is saying she is having a hard time breathing and wants to go to the hospital. I sat there confused for a minute asking my self why are they calling me and asking me? Why are they not calling a ambulance first? I told them to send her to troy Beaumont make sure she has her phone with her, I also asked what her vitals were and she said they all look fine. They said okay to sending her to the hospital and hung up 13 minutes later I got another call and it was a different woman saying I just want to make sure they called you. I was like yeah they are sending her to the hospital and she says oh no hunny she didnt make it. I of course was in shock and needed time to process. I called back and tried to get what happened and they put me on hold multiple times and they kept sending me to different nurses. One nurse said she has no idea what happened. Another said she was holding my moms hand when she begged her not to let her die. I asked the nurse did you try and save her she said no I did not she has a DNR. I immediately told her that's not true back in Feb. my mom requested to be off the DNR and she also told Troy Beaumont. She said well that was in her file so. So no one cared to make sure her file was updated or my mom was off the DNR. If they were doing there JOB my mom would still be here. She was the youngest in that home. she was only 54 years old. I asked them if she was tested for covid and they stated she was not. But why? when there were multiple people who were in there diagnosed with covid and my mom was having a hard time breathing for a while at this point. They DONT care. I guess its just one less patient to have to worry about. SMH. Please do not send anyone you love here!
I applied online through Indeed website and was contacted the next day for an interview, I get there and fill out another full application that was already done online along with my flexibility 5 days a week like 8 hour shifts and the hiring manager told me she was flexible and suggest her flexibility which is not flexible as she claims. Why waste my time to come into an interview and this could've been saved all over the phone and wasting my time filling out a paper application at the Regency. Fake management, she claims she likes people to communicate but this is why its a turnover over there and call offs. I'm very happy not to be working there and seen right through fake.
My mom was in there only 1 day and already the staff is not paying attention to her! My Mom asked for help to the bed and the "caregiver" said she would be back, but never came back and my mom fell and scraped her back! Not sure what other damage she has incurred just yet. This is how they treat 90 year old patients?!
First day(Wed 7/8) and I'm not impressed with the care my father is receiving. He just came from the hospital to stay and get PT for his hip surgery he just had two days ago(Monday 7/6). Long waits when he use his call button(he had to roll himself to desk to finally get help), late on receiving meds/meals. A/C is broken in part of the building(and currently there is a heat wave of 90 degree temps). They said between shift change and 4-5 admissions things were delayed. PT never even saw him before they left at 5 and he got there at 2:30ish. Their intake evaluation process has been subpar and I'm not impressed. I hope they make up for it in the morning. Will update if I can on this.
My mother stayed at Regency for three weeks after having her arm amputated due to cancer. She was treated very well and was hoping to stay an extra week but was denied by insurance. She improved there quickly! She wasn’t healing in the hospital and we we’re very worried she wasn’t going to be able to regain her independence. We couldn’t visit because of COVID-19, but we could wave at her window and drop off everything she needed. The entire staff was helpful and went out of their way to help her with the iPad we got her to keep in touch. They kept in contact with us; her kids, so we knew what was happening during her stay. They are short staffed due to the virus, but they all work hard to make sure everyone is comfortable and cared for. Thank you Regency for making my Mother’s stay a success! We appreciate all your hard work ❤️
My mother has been in this facility over a week . They are short staffed, they have ants in my mothers room .. The physical therapist was supposed to be doing bed therapy on my mother but was too interested in what was going on in the news on tv.. she had to waited over an hour to be changed she sat in her own Fecal .. And the food is horrible and disgusting I would not even feed my pets that food...
serve HOT food, serve food suitable for human consumption. Check the food for mold BEFORE you serve it. Do not just assume what a patient may want. If a patient has an accident (bowel movement) on the floor while trying to get to the bathroom, dont let it sit for 4 hours before you clean it up. answer the patient call bell in fewer than 40 minutes. Best bit of advice...close down before you get shut down. or before you kill someone due to negligence.
This is my 3rd stay at this facility. I've been impressed by how clean this facility is. Also the nursing staff and physical therapy staff where very attentive to my needs during my stay here. I also need to give a shout out to the kitchen crew and servers on how well they do their job. I would definitely and have recommended this facility to friends and family.
I would highly recommend The Regency at Shelby Township. My mother has stayed here and the staff is very courteous, polite, and professional. The building itself is very clean, and appears to be very up-to-date and new. Just an overall pleasant experience we’ve had with my mother rehabbing here. Thank you so much Regency at Shelby Township!
