This place doesnt even deserve a 1 rating. Elderly clients left in wet pants, and chairs in TV room often wer and never cleaned. Clients left with diarrhea for a week, others with broken bones not reported. Wet and dirty laundry left to pile up. CNAS sleeping on the job and others not present to supervise and clients fell on almost a daily basis. Clients were often let in shorts or sleeveless top when it was cold. Violent movies put on TV for Dementia care clients, which made their Sundowning worse. Food safety questionable and food served was unhealthy and not what was posted on the menu. Hardly any activities for Dementia( memory care), although new directors came and activities were listed and paper hung outside the TV room, residents did nothing but watch TV. Complaints of neglect and abuse received by ombudsmen.
It's been a difficult decision to put my mom's care in someone else's care, but she is thriving at paramount!!! It's only been a couple of weeks she loves it, people, activities, dining. The staff are very friendly, had several tell me my mom is so sweet. Thank you everyone!!! Special thanks to Nicole Boggs in admissions for helping through the process!!!!
My grandma has lived at this care center for almost 3 years This has been one of the best experiences for us because I live in Utah and she is in Delaware the staff completely understands our entire situation and they are very friendly and help us every time we need to get something taken care of with grandma she had to go to and never place short term And it was an absolute miserable experience they wouldn’t even let me talk to my grandmother so I’m so glad she’s back at Paramount they are very easy to work with and understand our situation I’m so glad we found this facility for my grandma she is always telling us how good the food is and how friendly the staff is with her she’s 97 years old so we don’t know how much longer she’ll be with us but I’m glad she’s in a place where we Fell Comfortable being able to leave her there I can’t Say how happy I am been with there and care for my grandmother Thank you so much Paramount for making a fell comfortable with my grandmothers care Especially with us being offered three thousand miles away
This building has been my place of employment for almost 8 years now, and plan on many more. I started here as a CNA 8 years ago and I have worked myself up to Activities Manager. I enjoy coming to work daily. The residents are the center of my job and make it a wonderful place to work. I enjoy developing calendars based on the residents interests, and trust me, what great residents we have here at Paramount with exciting new ideas for fun activities at such a beautiful age. The Activities Department as a whole love our time at Paramount so much that we cannot call it a "job". You know what they say, "Find a job you love and you won't work a day in your life".
The staff here has been amazingly helpful and accommodating when working out the logistics of moving my brother here from out of state. His caregivers are very interested in his needs. There is a good vibe here when you walk in and see residents who are well cared for. They have been very helpful with the logistics of taking him to doctor appointments. Highly recommended.
My mother was in Paramount’s memory care unit from June 2018 until she passed in June 2019. The family agrees she received outstanding care from a professional and warmhearted Paramount staff while she was there as detailed below:The course of her advanced dementia was close to the typical one you’ve read about elsewhere. We noticed something was seriously wrong in 2013. By 2018 it was probably past the time she could live at home. Sending her to Paramount (Brookdale at the time) was a wrenching family decision, and it took some months to get everyone on the same page. Finally, we all agreed she wasn’t safe at the house even though she lived there with other family. The physical plant at Paramount is clean and designed with the patients’ needs in mind with a secure and locked memory care section, flat floors, and bathrooms designed for their requirements. The staff keeps the patients on a predictable, steady schedule. There are approximately 20 patients in the unit. Social isolation is a major problem for the elderly—part of the care is just the patients being together—they seem to be appreciative of each others company. My mother didn’t participate in very many of the activities, but she seemed to enjoy being there with the others. The well-trained, patient, and compassionate health aides (always at least 2-3 or more on duty) keep the patients under constant line-of-sight supervision. If needed, there are nurses one minute away a short walk down the hall. There is quite a lot going on that you don’t see—bathing, dressing, and other daily activities they take care of in an optimum and efficient way. These daily routines are increasingly difficult and stressful for family members to take care of at home. After a certain amount of mental decline, it becomes just too much for a family to handle it.Paramount is staffed and trained to do it— while there she was safe, clean, and comfortable. Paramount closely monitors food intake. At home she refused to eat some days. Paramount handled this effectively and ensured she received proper nutrition.Paramount works with other companies including Compassionate Care to provide additional nursing care for feeding (the ability to swallow declines) and other daily activities as mental capacities continue to decrease. These are questions you need to ask: What happens when the mental decline exceeds Paramount’s capabilities to deal with it? Will she be moved to another facility?Paramount’s family communications are outstanding. The nursing staff and facility management kept our family well informed in real time about what was happening.Facility manager Paul Taylor did a particularly outstanding job. In his role he has a lot to balance: state and federal regulations, the needs of the patients, family concerns, his staff, and corporate Paramount. Things happen, and in our experience, Paul was able to make it work in the best interests of our mother.Cost: The monthly costs at Paramount are typical for similar facilities in Delaware—some are a little more, some a little less. My dad required a nursing home – skilled nursing – kind of as described above, except patients there are in constant line-of-sight supervision by a nurse, not a health aide. They also need more supervision at night, and other labor intensive care short of a hospital. Skilled nursing costs approximately twice as much as the Paramount memory care unit.Depending on the nature of the decline, skilled nursing might become a requirement. In our case, Paul kept us informed so there would be no surprises, and he did everything possible with the outside care agencies consistent with his obligation to comply with the regulations. Again—he made it work.In sum, based on our experience, my family highly and strongly recommends Paramount.
We needed to have my mother admitted to a memory care unit quickly, and Paramount was wonderful! Other facilities required a 6 week process, but Paramount was able to assess her, get all her records and admit her within four days. They even went to pick her up from the rehab center she was in! The administration and nursing staff are extremely helpful. We call them often (probably too much, I admit) and they always respond promptly. I am very happy with the care my mother is receiving.
We moved my favorite mother-in-law in to Paramount two months ago (early 2019). It was a smooth process to get her enrolled. It was a really tough transition period for her having lost her husband a couple of months before and having to move across the country. The staff came and visited us at our Newark home and did a warm and friendly and professional interview with her that put her at ease for taking the physical tour. She literally spent just a minute on the day of the tour to decide to put down a deposit and moved in within two weeks. She talks about the good food, the activities and the new friends she has made. Having worked with older adults all of my adult life and with families who have gone through this process, Paramount made it as easy and painless as I've ever seen it. They have been so responsive to my wife's questions and requests and quickly and efficiently have done everything we needed them to do to put her mom at ease and to put our minds at ease as well. We discoverd that it's as difficult emotionally to drive away after dropping one's parent at an assisted living place as it is to drive away after dropping off our children at college. The difference is that Paramount left us feeling totally assured about her safety and well-being. I would highly recommend Paramount to any family.
My 96-year-old mother's happy - no, she's thrilled - to be "at home" in Paramount in White Chapel village - and so are well. The staff there are universally kind, caring and helpful. Friends who've visited are impressed - the rooms are neat and clean, there are tons of activites, the proximity to the Newark Senior Center is a big plus, and the range of services gives us the flexibility to tailor a program which is "just right," for us all.
Paramount Senior Living at Newark maintains a warm friendly and welcoming staff. Even through the tough times the world has experienced they hold their heads high, provide a quality service and are led by the best management team an Executive Director could ever wish to have. I feel blessed to come to work each day and be surrounded by people that truly care
