Title: Terrible Experience - Avoid this Retirement Home I worked at this retirement home for approximately two months, and my time there was nothing short of a nightmare. From the very beginning, I felt taken advantage of and disrespected. The management's practices were highly questionable, and the overall atmosphere was incredibly unprofessional. Firstly, they had me coming in unpaid on Friday afternoons for 30 minutes, which is completely unethical. Additionally, I had to endure two hours of unpaid Tuberculosis testing, adding insult to injury. When I was initially hired, the advertised pay rate was $22 per hour, but I later discovered that I would only be receiving $20 per hour with no explanation or opportunity for negotiation. Furthermore, the promised $500 sign-on bonus was never given to me. The incompetence of the management was evident in various ways. One manager consistently referred to me by the wrong name and constantly smelled of alcohol. Another manager would frequently swear and speak ill of employees behind their backs. I also witnessed this same manager regularly taking home food meant for the residents, creating an environment of dishonesty and theft. The disregard for basic hygiene and safety standards was shocking. Dishwashing practices were unsanitary, and I often had to rewash cleaned dishes. Food items were stored unwrapped and unlabeled, and I even found a dead house fly in one of the seasoning shakers. The faulty cooler door posed a potential risk, and I was instructed to falsify temperature records. In the freezer, food items were carelessly stored on the floor, further compromising sanitation. The cookbook system in place was a disaster, with misspellings, illegible notes, and incomplete recipes. It was impossible to follow some of the instructions due to the lack of proper measuring devices and clear directions. This lack of organization and attention to detail is simply unacceptable. Perhaps the most distressing aspect was the lack of care for the residents. As part of my duties, I delivered meals to the residents, and it was disheartening to see the poor condition of their refrigerators. It was evident that management did not inspect their refrigerators for spoiled food, posing a significant health hazard for these vulnerable individuals. I also experienced an incident where a manager questioned me regarding a scheduling conflict, leading to the wrongful termination of another employee. This incident caused three other staff members to quit, highlighting the toxic work environment and poor management practices. Overall, my experience at this retirement home was utterly disheartening. I was treated as a disposable employee, devoid of any guidance or support. As someone with extensive professional experience and a caring nature, I expected better. I strongly advise against allowing your loved ones to reside in this facility. It is evident that the management lacks integrity and the well-being of the residents and employees is not a priority.
