Employee Reviews for Five Star Senior Living in Midlothian, Virginia
1 out of 5 stars. Based on 1 reviews

People come in when they feel like it, making it a difficult place to work. The DON and ADON are praised for fighting for the staff, but other than that, employees would not recommend working there. I moved my grandmother to Morningside at Bellgrade about a month ago from another assisted living facility, and the change I have seen in her this last month is amazing! She is making friends and adores the staff, and is genuinely the happiest I have seen her in well over a year. Emily, Kasey, Nancye and the rest of the staff are wonderful and you can tell they truly care for the residents. So glad we made the decision to move her here!
Our parents have lived at Morningside of Belgrade for 2 years. We were so happy that they could have an apartment together. That made the transition easier for them. They’ve met new friends and settled in well. The staff is friendly the management team is amazing! Before COVID we were able to visit whenever we wanted and take them for outings. Since COVID, it has been a challenge but we feel the staff is doing a great job under very difficult circumstances. Recently, it became apparent to the staff that dad’s needs were changing and he needed to move to the Memory Care Unit. They clearly explained everything to us and we agreed with their assessment. With COVID, we were unable to help but the management team and staff rallied around them. They kept us in the loop and did ALL of the work. We couldn’t be happier with the support we got and are still getting. Dreama and her team in the BTR have been amazing helping dad adjust and feel comfortable. What a relief! The move was harder on mom who is naturally feeling very emotional about it. Again, the management team has come to the rescue. Kasey, Emily and Nancye visit with her, hold her hand and reassure her. They have made sure she can visit him whenever she likes. That helps. We are pleased with all the service we have received.
Life crisis with an elderly loved one happens and families are faced with making hard decisions about future living arrangements in a COVID crazy world. Where do you turn? Who can help smooth the process? Look no farther than the team at Morningside of Bellgrade. From our first virtual visit, to having every phone call answered promptly, to going the extra mile with a smile and an encouraging word....that is the welcome we received from the Morningside staff. Transition is never easy, growing old and making changes challenges family, loved ones, and staff. Thank you, Morningside staff, you should be proud . We are a grateful family.
So my families experience with Morningside at Belegrade was terrible to say the least. 3 directors in the 1 year and 8 months that my father was there. During covid it has been tough because we were not able to see him up until recently And that were short 45 min visits in the courtyard. My Father has raw ears from his mask that no one addressed. They removed his phone to reach us out of his room. Just last week I went to pick him up and he was waiting in a wheelchair that did not belong to him and it was covered in dried feces all over it. Big chunks all on the metal parts, not even in the seat. The pictures I have posted were ones taken today when we were not permitted in his room to gather his belongings but put on the loading dock out back. We were planning on moving my Father in the 28th but after last Wednesday when I met him to take him to a dentist appt and saw the condition he was in, we got him out the next day.I am warning everyone , this place has OSHA VIOLATIONS all over the place. Check on your loved ones frequently. Listen to them. The amount of stuff that was hidden from us is unbelievable. Because of covid, it is easy for them to hide the fact that they are not taking care of people like they should. No one is accountable because no one is watching. We never did get into his room but my Fathers belongings did not include his wallet of 17.00 dollars. Pitiful. The list is too long to write but please heed this warning.
Unbelievable care. My mother is in Memory Care and because of the virus, we are unable to visit, but the entire staff responds to my frequent phone calls and emails. Checks on my mom and gives me updates. Always with a great attitude! You won't find a more caring staff. Thank you Kasey, Jonathon and Justin!
Update: Things are overall good and mom has transitioned well (been there a little over 3 months). There are some things that I would like to see improved and I have communicated and it has been well received by leadership. When you have a loved one with dementia, they can't tell you things so communication and updates are imperative. That is where things get muddled and can be very frustrating. Also, BTR is getting back on track, but activities and some amenities (outdoor area, no wi-fi for accessing programming and services that would be beneficial) for Bridge to Recovery residents are lacking compared to assisted living.Original:My mom has been in the memory care for nearly a month and overall I have been very pleased. From the tour, for me tours, with Kasey, to the application process through move-in day, I was supported the entire way! This was a big decision and I never felt rushed or that I was asking too many questions. The staff I have met and observed are welcoming, patient, and kind. My mom is doing well and seems very happy. So far everything that I wished was different is on the minor side and I'm thinking the new EDs will get that sorted out (ie courtyard in the memory care section has been neglected). Thank you staff of Morningside, it's all about the people and the staff there seem top notch. Overall, the facility seems very clean and the food in the better then average-quite good range.
My mother and father resided at this assisted living facility for about three years. To their credit, as of late the staff and management have improved. Prior to that time, I had many restless nights because of the lack of adequate care that my parents received and a revolving management team. No place is perfect, but do your homework and read the online surveys conducted by the Commonwealth before placing a loved one here or at any assisted living facility.
I was very impressed with Morningside. The staff were very nice and the PT was exceptionally friendly and helpful. The facility was very clean and updated. I made a deposit and first month's rent but my MIL, due to unforeseen circumstances, wasn't able to move in. The director at Morningside was extremely understanding and gave me a full refund of all deposits. I found them to be very easy to work with.
My 93 yr. old father with dementia had been living in a retirement facility but needed more. We did extensive research before we made the decision to choose Morningside. We are very pleased. The minute you walk in the doors you are warmly greeted. The facility is lovely and inviting. The activities and enrichment opportunities are good. The staff are warm and caring. Dad has been here for almost 2 years. We are so happy that our beloved Dad has a loving, caring, safe home at this last part of his life's journey.
One of the hardest decisions you will make regarding your loved one is who you will trust for their daily care and comfort. Morningside of Bellgrade needs to be on your list of places to visit before you make that decision. My Mom has been there since February 2018 and I am very satisfied with the care she is receiving. She originally entered the Assisted Living area but as it became apparent that her needs were changing, a place was found for her in the memory care wing "Bridge to Recovery". Mom is happy and healthy, and I am at peace knowing she is being taken care of by caring and professional people.
My dad was in Morningside at Bellgrade for two months and then got better and went home. We have never had such an awesome experience. There was not one time that ALL the staff (front desk, nurses, administration, dining room crew etc) were not smiling, friendly, ready to help in any way possible. I was there every day, and it was the same every day. I've just never seen anything like it. They were the same when we toured. They are a great group of people, and I really miss seeing them on a daily basis. They were becoming part of my extended family. My dad doesn’t have a computer, and it’s hard for him to write, but these are his comments too. He has nothing but good things to say about everyone there. The dining room crew greeted my dad and me when I ate there with all smiles. He always wanted a glass of water and a glass of orange juice at each meal, and as soon as they saw him coming in, it was on the table. Everything was excellent.Ann, the activities director, did a great job in planning activities and outings that were fun. My dad enjoyed all the outings he went on.Kudos to Kasey Matthews. She is the best. She was very thorough and put our minds at ease from the first time we met her. She sold me and my family on Morningside for my dad. She is a very caring and compassionate person, and at this time of need, it was so welcomed. My family had no experience with assisted living facilities until now. She really made this process for us a lot easier. We visited other places, and there is no comparison to the staff, every one of them, at Morningside. They get 10 stars from my family.
