The farm-to-table movement started small, with just a few farmers in Washington and northern California in the 1960s and 70s. But it quickly gained popularity, as more and more people realized the benefits of eating fresh, locally grown food. Today, the farm-to-table movement is strong nationwide, with farmers markets popping up in cities large and small across America. Today, our chef is continuing the tradition of using locally produced vegetables, fruits, meats and seafood to create menus that are fresh and full of flavor. The seasonal options and regional favorites are sure to tantalize your taste buds. Other communities have meal plans that are the same every day, but at Heron's Key we have the Your Choice Dining program. This allows you to pick when you want to eat and only pay for meals you choose.Price Comparison

Robin & John NeiswenderAmong the best decisions my wife Robin and I ever made was to leave our bay-side home with its captivating view of Mount Rainier, and move to Heron's Key Independent Apartments. We loved our home, but my wife's fragile health made clear a need to free ourselves from demanding property maintenance and flights of stairs. For her sake, I told myself, we moved. Our hard decision was rewarded by the unexpected delight of friendly neighbors, a marvelous Heron's Key staff, resident artists (my wife being one), writers, woodworkers, gardeners, intellectuals, fun-makers, pet-romping, and fitness buffs, activities and opportunities--we found we could be as busy or uninvolved as we wished. Most importantly, we found solid friendships. What began as a "good sense" move became the best move, ever. I thought I moved to Heron's Key for my wife; but in January 2020, Robin's unexpected death revealed more. Our move was for both of us. When Robin died, I was gently wrapped in the caring of our community. No one invaded my precious privacy; no one allowed me to feel isolated or alone. I did not have the mountain or the shore, but I had the nearby trails in the woods and peaceful ponds. I had an indescribable community of caring people. I am home.
During this time of quarantine I had my 70th birthday. Have to admit that I was a bit disappointed because I had hoped to have some sort of celebration. To my surprise, my friends had planned a big surprise party and my daughter was going to fly up as my BD present. Needless to say, that didn't occur. Keeping in line with our Gov requirements to keep 6 feet from each other didn't include a large surprise party. The morning of my BD my daughter called to sing Happy BD and ask if I had seen my door? "Door?" I asked. I went to my door and looked outside. All over my door were cards and pictures (see below - sorry it's sideways). During the day more cards appeared. At five a friend called to say come outside and stand facing her patio. I did as instructed. My friends stood on their balconies and sang Happy Birthday to me and toasted with glasses of whatever. While I couldn't get close, we couldn't have BEEN closer. What an amazing expression of friendship during a seemingly lonely time. This place is a thriving community of caring people that support each other during trying times be it quarantine or sadness. We are there for the happy times as well and when this is finally over - one big party!
Looks great from the outside but not very good practices on the inside. We took my grandmother there to look at an apartment and she found one she absolutely loved. We got the ball rolling and all the paper work done. Once she was medically cleared she was told she would be a good candidate for independent living if her family was involved, which we are completely involved in her daily life. So once she "passed" the medical exam and we put down the 10% deposit Heron's key sent her flowers and a card that said congratulations for making a good decision. About two weeks later after they received the 10% deposit and flowers were sent we get a phone call saying the doctor now has concerns about her ability to live in independent living. They now had to go to the CEO of Heron's Key to get approval for her to get into Independent Living. We were told by the individual that we were working with that we would have an answer by the end of the week. On Friday, the week we were supposed to get an answer we still had received no phone call. So we called to inquire about the decision of my grandmother being able to live in independent living. The individual that was supposed to call us was off. So fortunately the lady that we spoke to was nice enough to get an answer. 3 hours later we get a phone call. " Sorry your grandmother was not approved to live in Independent living". Bottom line, just because you get a 10% deposit, maybe hold onto the congratulation flowers until the final decision is made Herons KeyNow my 89 year old grandmother who loved the apartment she was "approved for" is left feeling incompetent and depressed. Way to get her hopes up only to let her down. You were quick to approve her when you seen she had the finances. Maybe health evaluations should come first before financial approval.
We moved in the first month HK opened. We left behind a lot but have gained so much more. We are thankful every day that we moved in. I knew there would be many interesting people living here and there are. What I hadn't counted on was what a supportive community it would be. That was a special bonus. The staff are also amazing and so people centered. It is a great place to live and gets better each day.
I am so sorry that someone had a negative experience at Heron's Key. I would encourage you to come back and come inside to give us a second chance. I have lived at Heron's Key for 2 years. I have found the residents to be so caring and considerate. It was a hard decision for me to give up my home and move here, but it was one of the best decisions I ever made. Living here has surpassed my expectations. And I appreciate the friendliness of all the neighborhoods around us and know that the majority of us would return that friendliness.
I've chosen Heron's Key for my "Forever Home" and it's the best decision that I've ever made! Knowing that I'll always have a beautiful, caring, comfortable and safe place to live surrounded by friends and an excellent, supportive staff makes Heron's Key "My Happy Place - Forever Home!"

Heron’s Key is an amazing place. After moving here in early 2019, my wife and I quickly found new friends, have participated in a myriad of engaging programs that entertain and educate us, and have enjoyed our regular walks along the lovely trails around the grounds and adjacent protected woodlands. Heron’s Key is a new facility, with beautiful grounds, well-appointed apartments, and loads of special amenities. It’s a nonprofit facility, and we have found the staff to be singularly focused on the health, well being, and emotional fulfillment of the residents. We couldn’t be happier with the choice we made to move to Heron’s Key.
