My husband and I thought we were doing the right thing when we chose to have my mother live at Grace Park. I’m a medical professional, as is my husband, the place appeared to be clean and it was well decorated, for whatever that is worth. In the beginning we were told many things, unfortunately they were all simply not true. You will be quoted one price- yet within a month- you’ll be paying much, much more. We were told that once per month a physician will visit. There never was a physician only a very young nurse, that changed often. I only spoke with whoever the nurse was on the phone. I attempted to meet with her regarding my concerns about my mother’s health, unfortunately she would always have an emergency and had to leave. This happened every time I set up a time to meet with her. It took us a few months to realize the owners are only interested in making as much money as possible. The aids are not certified CNA’s as the aides in hospitals and nursing homes are. Instead at GP they are referred to as PCA’s (personal care attendants- there is no such terminology) as I previously said we are both medical professionals and have never worked with or heard of a ‘PCA’. These young women are hired off the street without training of any kind. Instead they’re trained by the other PCA’s that have absolutely no clue how to care for or handle a patient properly. At the time that my mother was a resident at GP a woman that handled the finances for the owner, would frequently ask to have all of my mother’s finances, transferred to Grace Park to ‘make our lives easier’. Of course we never did. The most painful part of our entire experience with GP was the way in which my mother began to look at me and my husband. She gradually became distrustful of us. As a previous person wrote in her review be very careful. I never would have ever thought it was possible for my own mother to not trust us- but it happened to us. As my mother began to become slightly confused, at which time I sought out a clinical phycologist that specialized in such disorders. GP did nothing to help us or my mother. Our Clinical Psychologist and we repeatedly requested that she be transferred to Memory Care, on the second floor. We were told many different stories ‘there is no room’, ‘that isn’t for your mother’ etc. Please remember the previous review was written by an ombudsman, this review is written by two medical professionals. There are some wonderful assisted living facilities in this area. Please don’t allow the interior decor at Grace Park be the way in which you judge and choose a great facility for your loved ones. It’s an awful feeling to have your own mother think you are responsible for taking her money when in fact we were paying all her finances, and medical expenses for her. It’s very sad, but this happened to us, please beware of Grace Park in many ways they ruined our lives. We don’t want anyone to go through the suffering they caused us to go through.
