Well, apparently I wasn't the only one kept in the dark about my loved one's problems in this place:nursinghomesite.com/insp…immediately tell a family member about situations?Really?
It's only 8 am and it started at 5 am with 2 of them walking in my room, turning on the BRIGHT ceiling light. They proceeded to tell me it's cold in here. No kidding, I have ms and need my body temp down. They kept asking me if I wanted my windows closed. I said no. They both stood at the door, gave me horrible looks and then left. They left my light ON! I can't just get up and shut it off. So I put one of their plastic pillows over my eyes and went back to sleep. Oh, and I finally got my meds... At 2:45 am.
I would never recommend this facility to anyone. My loved one was there twice . We had him placed elsewhere .... the CNAS were unkind, slow to answer calls , and in one case, refused to do the job. The first time we were there, our loved one wanted to stay in the recliner longer.. he was not tired. The CNA turned the lights off in his room and closed the door. He is diabetic, and he cannot see in the dark . He called me , because no one would respond to his pleas to turn the light on in his room. I called and talked with one of the nurses, and she did not believe me. The bed was broken, the call button did not work the first time he was there... they gave him a dinner bell to ring when he needed help!!!! We could not believe it ... this hindered his ability to heal , because he was stressed and traumatized by the whole experience . Please, stay away. In addition , the communication was terrible , and we had to go through the stress of making sure he was getting basic care.
Normally I don’t like giving low reviews. But my Father in law was brought here after a bad fall and nothing good came from being at Governor’s House. Not sure if this facility is under new Management but I have noticed that most of the high star reviews are from 2 years ago. He ended up getting worse, developing bed sores, and had to go back to the hospital and the Family had him go somewhere else for proper care. From his experience at Governors House I would not consider going here.
Several years ago I placed my father in this facility. Initially I was pleased with the care. In the last 2 years they have had 3 different owners. The recent acquisition created numerous gaps in care and a communication nightmare. My father recently died and unfortunately is was not a good experience for me or him. They are trying to staff up but at this point very short staffed. The covering doctor is one of the most obnoxious, rude, self absorbed individuals I have ever met. He should not be a physician in elder care. If you love your family member, do not place him/her in this facility. You will be greatly disappointed. I hesitated writing this review but after the neglect my father experienced in the last six months, I had no choice. I am certain that their neglect expedited his death. He took so many falls, last of which left his head bleeding and bruised. The facility never reported the incident to me. If I had not been there on a daily basis I fear the his death may have been. even more painful.
After a very nasty fall at home, I had the good luck to be taken in at the Governor’s House in Simsbury. I feel my three week stay here has been very beneficial. I have gained strength and mobility through the excellent work of the therapy staff. Everyone has been most helpful, from the management to the staff. The food was well balanced, plentiful and tasty. The Nursing Aids were helpful, kind and cheerful at all times. I am also grateful for having been treated by the wound doctor. The activity staff brings cheer to those who have a hard time. I thank you all most sincerely for your care.
