Employee Reviews for Good Samaritan Society in El Paso, Texas
2.71 out of 5 stars. Based on 7 reviews
Employees of Good Samaritan Society in the El Paso, TX area generally have positive things to say about their experience working there. They appreciate the positive culture among employees and residents, the willingness to help each other, and the opportunities for new nurses. However, there are some areas of improvement. Employees find the job to be very demanding and physical, and there is a lack of staff to help. Favoritism is also an issue, and the nurse to patient ratio is not safe. Employees suggest that management should be more receptive to suggestions from employees, treat all employees equally, get more staff to help, provide more detailed training for new nurses, and explain how they want things done instead of just yelling. Nightshift is seen as a more pleasant experience as it is calmer and the pay is better, but the management is seen as non-existent and often tries to guilt employees out of taking days off. The pay is okay, co workers are friendly, and there is some schedule flexibility. The job is simple and the residents and families are seen as awesome. There is also training available for continuing education credit hours.Employee Reviews for Good Samaritan Society
3.16 out of 5 stars. Based on 974 reviews
The Good Samaritan Society has generally positive reviews from employees. They appreciate the flexible schedule, willing to listen to employees, good benefits, and supportive system from the National Campus. Employees also enjoy the mission and culture of compassion. However, there are some cons such as pay being negligible compared to other companies, no official PTO, short staffing, long hours, poor management, and lack of corporate support. Employees suggest that the company should update their EMR, provide more team management, higher pay for nurses and CNAs, and provide more training and corporate support.Information from Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services

Overall Ratings
The Good Samaritan Society--White Acres is a top-tier nursing home that touts a commendable 4-star overall rating, positioning it in the upper 30% of facilities with regard to overall ratings. This dedication to excellence also reflects in their 4-star health inspection rating, another indicator that places them in the top 30% of facilities in terms of superior health inspection results, and again superior to the state average. However, there remains room for improvement in terms of the nursing home's quality rating, where it has received a mere 2-star ranking. This result not only places it in the bottom 20% of facilities, but it is also below the state average. This suggests improvements in quality of care could strengthen its overall standing.Staff Ratings

Terrible. Should be ZERO stars. My mother was a resident in their "skilled" care area for 10 days. During her stay here, she needed to be rushed to the hospital in the middle of the night. Long story short, after her 5-day stay in the hospital, she was ready to be discharged back to White Acres. The hospital social worker called White Acres to arrange her discharge to them and was told by White Acres that because my mother pushed the nurse button one too many times, they determined they could no longer provide for her needs--that she required more care than they could provide. Um, DO YOUR JOB, White Acres! You are a NURSING HOME! This was the first I had heard of this ever being an issue!--not from White Acres, but from this social worker at the hospital! Yes, they basically made us have to scramble to find a new facility for my mom within 1-2 days. They basically DUMPED her at the hospital. The social worker at the hospital was shocked and told me what White Acres did "is not illegal, but it's just wrong." So, if you want your bedridden loved one to have human contact no more than perhaps a rushed, 10 minute interaction every 2 hours, and you do not want your loved one to complain about their neglect, then this is your place. My mother would call ME several times during the day to get me to phone call the nurses to give her water, hand her the remote, change her diaper, etc. because her nurse call button was being ignored.Administration is clueless and no one knows what anyone else is doing. They only care about their tiny area and do not consider the holistic care of their residents. The amount of ineptitude and miscommunication I experienced with their staff in the span of 10 days was staggering. I could go on and on here with more examples. Please note that these comments are made during the time of COVID. So, now we are trying The Bartlett instead. Best wishes to all of you trying to make an informed decision on the best place for your loved one. It's not easy.
My father died face down on the floor covered in feces. He wasn't capable of walking, or standing on his own weight. I was notified that he had been sent to the hospital only to be informed he was dead. No one has any answers as to what actually happened to my father at white acres. Such as how he got on the floor, why they think he passed so suddenly. Everyone I asked just didn't know, how do they not know....the only thing they informed me of was that he was puking and had lots of diarrhea suddenly that evening. No one ever called me that night about him being so sick, and even the day previous I had raised concerns about the health of my father but answers are never given. My fathers roommate wasn't in the room but told me it took them forever to get an ambulance there. Its already been 4 days since his death and none of them have bothered to contact me with any real information. There was also stuff missing out of his room when I came to collect them after identifying his body at the hospital. I saw my dad just the day previous and he said his oxygen levels were dropping pretty low that past few evenings when I raised concerns about that and doing some tests, I was also never given any answers. I have no idea if my father died alone on that floor covered in poop, or if someone was with him when he died. I don't understand how they don't have any answers.
We sent my mother there for short term rehab after abdominal surgery at Providence. The day of her impending discharge, I set up her stay there with the admissions director (whose name I will withhold). When my mother got there, she was put in a room not much bigger than a closet, with no TV, in the nursing home area. The bed there had no guard rails and was pushed up against the wall (so, were they thinking they at least would have 50% of the possible falls covered?). In front of a group of people in the room (consisting of my brother and my mother's care giver), a nurse comes in and changes my mother's diaper. How dehumanizing is that? Come to find out, White Acres did not have any rooms available in their rehab center, so they threw my Mom in this closet in their nursing home area. They knew at the time I made arrangements for my mother to stay there that they had no room. How dishonest! We got my mother out of there within 8 hours. Makes you wonder with ethics like that, if they are bilking Medicare somehow. Unfortunately, there are not a lot of good options in El Paso for short term therapy. The hospitals dedicated to short term therapy are a better option, from my experience. Monte Vista, another nursing home, has a short term rehab facility, but also from a prior experience with my Dad, its not that great, either.
I want to thank every member of the staff for your patience with my auntie and while dealing with me. I had a lot of questions during a very confusing time and you all came through with informative, yet comforting answers/solutions. Everyone from Miriam & Diane, Admitting; Rocio, Social Worker, Michael & Jennifer, Nurses; Xochil, Activities Director; support staff; and Marisela from their in-house hospice. Marisela was especially helpful during her visit by providing grieving counseling. Thank you all again.
My father in law has been a resident here for 3 years. Any issues we have ever had , have been addressed and taken care of. The staff is caring and have always answered any questions or concerns we have had. A nursing home was not our 1st choice but we are extremely grateful for the care my father in law has received.
We have our maternal grandmother and we are very pleased with their services. They have been very open to discuss any concerns that come up. The transition of having our grandmother placed in a nursing home was very tough. However, we are grateful that the Good Samaritan personnel have always helped us and my grandmother with the transition. During these difficult COVID times we have not missed a meeting with our grandmother.
DONT TRUST THEM!We arranged my grandfather to attend this facility and last minute they had called us saying they denied his request because of the questions we asked them before we got him transferred. MYRIAM the lady that is in charge said they were offended due to our questions.Questions such as how long can we visit our grandfather and when, if there are doctors on site (which they said no) and if they can be trusted due to how many negative reviews we had seen. How disrespectful of them to deny our request last minute only because we wanted to make sure our grandfather was going to a safe place. They denied us because I believe they have something to hide. The lady that had denied us and got offended was named MYRIAM.I WOULD NOT TRUST THEM WITH YOUR LOVED ONES.
I never believed they stories I heard about the care provided to our loved ones. 6 months later I am shocked and appalled at the lack of attention they pay to their patients. I am currently in the process of transferring my 90-year old father, with Alzheimer’s, out of this place. As his power of attorney, they refuse to return my calls, they forget to get my father to his doctor’s appointments, then say they rescheduled without letting me or the doctors’ offices know! I have left over 30 phone messages, have attempted to Speak or meet with the Adminstrator, director of nursing, or social worker. No one returns calls. Their billing is not up to date. For 3 months I had a $3,400.00 credit, then suddenly, I owed them $3,800.00. I was unable to reach anyone by phone or in person about this either. Finally, I was contacted for a care plan meeting by phone and everyone was saying they left messages! I’m always available for my father. The social worker Rocio went as far as saying she never called back regarding my issues because that is not her job description to help patient and family workers solve problems, then hung up on me!Please do not subject you loved ones to this facility that is only interested in collecting money, not caring, nor respecting their patients.
My aunt from Arizona is looking to move to El Paso and we toured the facility. She was very happy with the staff as they were very well informed and very courteous. The facility itself was very clean and decorated beautifully for the holidays. She was most impressed that it smelled so clean. If she does decide to move, she said this would be the place she would want to live in.
Please don't take your loved one here. They do not have the capability or enough professional staff to provide the care needed. It is a joke. The facility is not equipped to be a rehab facility. If your hospital says they will facilitate the transfer please go there first!
