I was a resident of Envoy of Alexandria Rehabilitation Center in February 2017 following my total left hip replacement. I chose to return to Envoy after my total right hip replacement on December 12, 2021. Envoy’s skilled nurses, technicians, occupational and physical therapists, social workers and activity coordinators are helping me to become self sufficient in caring for myself while managing my pain before returning home knowing how to maintain hip precautions to strive for a speedy recovery. The Director, administrators and other staff are phenomenal as well.
October 31, 2021 By "Babypoopydiaper" (a CNA nicknamed me, illegal); I was a resident of this facility. I have Cerebral Palsy, but was only here for post-illness recovery. Some of the staff were professional and caring; the majority were slovenly, mean, and unintelligible. They taunted me, purposefully mishandled my hip dysplasia until repeatedly reprimanded by therapists, told to shut up if I yelped in pain At least one CNA used the bathroom in my room without washing, or closing the door... The rooms/equipment are from the 1990s, barren, dirty, and unsafe. I kept my head down and mouth shut a much as possible, even as I was in pain while they yanked me around. This was supposed to be rehabilitative I left worse than when admitted. And, I now need trauma counseling.I was kept in isolation all three weeks of my TEN DAY stay, so I'm including an eyewitness account: I have a neighbor whose father lives in this facility - an accident of fate! He is a brittle diabetic who had a leg amputated and then COVID 19 hit and he could not come home. The food-if you can call it food- is often unrecognizable and is inedible. He is a diabetic but routinely receives starchy bread, powdered eggs, powdered mashed potatoes- and he is forced to either eat it and suffer the high blood sugar or toss it away. The food is inappropriate for any diabetic and his eyesight has become worse, his skin is worse. He has had COVID once and is likely to get it again because the floors and bathrooms are filthy. Two days ago he showed me a photo of human excrement on the hallway floor, left there for days. The shower area was no better- with a dirty diaper and bowel movement left on the shower floor! NOBODY tried to clean this dangerous mess up for days. The state needs to shut this vile and substandard place down!
Happy to discuss with anyone considering. Don't believe the low Medicare rating. Its NOT accurate, from my experiences Envoy of Alexandria is amazing!I am not sure why Envoy of Alexandria has a low rating but lets compare apples to apples before doing so please. Our SYSTEM has allowed nursing homes, in general, to provide low quality service, be understaffed and serve food your dogs wont even eat. That's how the system is setup until the people force it to be changed.Regarding this facility, you can't ask for a better place for your loved one to live (keeping in mind again how the system is setup). We weekly, sometimes, daily, checked in with our loved one. The leadership was so willing to do weekly family update calls the entire time Dad was there. The mgrs, Sampson and Ousman were fabulous and anythign I noted was mostly always taken care of. Kiren, the head of nursing, is one of the sharpest nurses I know. Under her leadership they kept covid infections down to just a handful for a LONG time. One of the lowest in the city. That took a lot of hard work and sacrifice. My thought is if they were not forced to allow folks to visit again, it could have stayed low. Regina, what can I say. My dad was in an AWFUL awful place in Niagara Falls, NY. When I say awful, they knew he didn't have local family so they him below F type service to him and us trying to check on him. Filed a complaint with NY state but that went nowhere, event though they were the cause of life threatening disease and health issues. That's why we moved Dad to VA. Regina was so helpful and was able to get Dad into this facility very fast. She did everything in her power to make it happen within just a couple of weeks. Without getting longer in this review, I'd recommend Envoy of Alexandria to anyone that has local family. When dad passed away a few months ago this staff checked in on me for a few weeks afterwards. I truly call some of them family. Happy to discuss my experiences with anyone considering a place for their loved one.
No Stars is a better rating, It is unbelievable what they do to their patients. One such patient it broken pelvis, arms and legs and hand a wrist wast sent by ambulance to an Ortho appointment. The driver was told to then not bring her back , but rather drive her to her unprepared home. The patient is bedridden/wheelchair bound!! Payment were current so this wasn't a $ issue, at least at this time.No discharge discussion or planning was done with the family at all. NEVER SEND YOUR FAMILY HERE. By the way, I am a nurse, and have heard and seen a lot. This is unbelievable and totally unacceptable.
My suggestion on this place is that if at all possible you have any other options for your loved ones, that you choose them instead of here. The facility looks run down and slightly outdated. There was always a weird smell, the thermostat was always set so high it would feel like a sauna at times. The food looked like it got sent over from the local jail. The administration staff was very cold not compassionate. Seemed like they were more interested in the financial gains rather than care and comfort for others loved ones. I will say the only thing positive I found about the place was the nursing staff. Other than 1 or 2, the majority were very caring and attentive. They always made sure my father had what he needed and when he needed it. This place was not my family's first choice but unfortunately it was our only option. my advice, STAY AWAY FROM HERE IT AT ALL POSSIBLE!!
If I could this place would get NO stars.Let me start this out with saying, we moved my grandma in this place because my mom and I don't have the qualifications to care for her and we would never want her in a home, but we work.Almost 3 years ago we moved her to Envoy, based on other church members recommendations which were all good. Well over the years it has definitely changed. You walk in the building and you walk up the unit and all the CNAs/Nurses are having "social hour" til they see you then it's back to work. How are you being social when a resident needs your help?!Next, they don't check the toilet paper stock before the weekend because when I went to use the rooms toilet, there was NONE. So my first thought was, "these are elders who may not be able to care for themselves, these "CNAs/Nurses" use the residents bathrooms...they should be checking AND if there's no toilet paper I know my grand or her roommate are not cleaning themselves properly which would be a whole new issue to raise with this company."Lastly, the staff are not friendly and seem to have a problem with residents families that care and are active in their life. Some of the staff talk down to you and lie straight to your face just to get out of trouble and pacify you in that moment. Also they say that they are knowledgeable about dementia/Alzheimers...but they really need training in all types of disease. My recommendation, if you care about your loved one, you'd take them out of here or don't bring them here at all.
My mother spent four miserable weeks in this dreadful place. If you truly love your loved one, look elsewhere. Don't take my word for it; just read this article and its attached readers' comments: alextimes.com/2013/08/nu…I believe that Envoy has since been sold to a different corporation. I can only hope that conditions have improved for the helpless patients.

I have Cerebral Palsy, but was only here for post-illness recovery. Some of the staff were professional and caring; the majority were slovenly, mean, and unintelligible. They taunted me, purposefully ,even threatened me with, "you are never going home," "we will come get you and bring you back here," They mishandled my hip dysplasia (jerked me around by my legs, pulling them apart knowing it did harm until repeatedly reprimanded by therapists), told to shut up if I yelped in pain At least one CNA used the bathroom in my room without washing, or closing the door... The rooms/equipment are from the 1990s, barren, dirty, and unsafe. I kept my head down and mouth shut a much as possible, even as I was in pain while they yanked me around. My mom was at Envoy of Alexandria and received great care. The facility is clean and located in a nice neighborhood. Idris was very helpful and very instrumental in mom having physical therapy after her release. Idris has called after her release to see how she was doing. Thanks Envoy of Alexandria!!!
My son is currently a patient at envoy. I got to know two of the staff members. Idris and Sampson. They were both very accommodating and knowledgeable. When I had a question or concern I was always able to reach them. The facility is very old but in a very nice residential area. My son was very happy and seemed content to be there. Most of the other staff was very nice too but I didn’t have much contact with them. My only negative comment is about the Indian lady who occasionally works the front desk. Several times she was very rude to me and others. She also seems very forgetful. But kudos to idris and Sampson for doing an outstanding job!
If I could I would give them ZERO stars. Do your research before you place you loves one there. I don't even know where to start! My father was there and he complained about how he was treated. There is NEVER anyone at the front to let you in and each time I go the woman is ALWAYS on lunch break. I mean each time I went. My father was discharged on a Saturday and I have to fight with them because they NEVER sent his medication. He was without medication for THREE days. I have to get off work three days later and pick up the order. They take forever to answer the phone and they always transferring you but no one EVER answer the phone. I even witness a man on the floor!!!!!! I would tell you NOT to drop someone you care about there!!!!!!!!! Trust me!!!!!!!!!!!!
It has taken me since May 7, 2020 to be able to write a review regarding this place called a rehab for elderly and sick. My mother was here. Vivian Coda was awesome when it came to my mother. But the other nurses and staff was horrible. If you want to know about your loved ones and family do not take them to this place. They ignore them when they need assistance, the residents phones get stolen, and I know they do not care! Do not do it, its not worth the fight! My mother passed away from Covid, after I was told they did not have any cases. I wake up the next day to see they had 18 or 19 cases, to call and find out they took my mother to the hospital the night before with a temperature and I received no call because they claim no one put my new number in the system, then was given the incorrect hospital she was at. to finally call the correct hospital and be told she was not going to make it. They have lives in their hands and do not value the people lives they are caring for!!
Would not recommend. This facility did not live up to their promises, lacked professionalism and accountability, unacceptable customer service, and incompetent employees. My loved one cried hysterically for me to get them out and their health surely declined while under Envoy's care. Sent them home without medication or the properly resources in place. I don't want to go into all the specifics but DO NOT put your loved ones here. I surely regret it.
It’s very challenging times in COVID for businesses. It’s definitely evident with Envoy as they are currently draining my friends Mom insurance without a valid cause. They’re taking advantage of a young black man whose Mom suffered a stroke. My friend lives two hours from his Mom and went from the hospital to Envoy. All this in hopes of getting her closer to recovery and a stable place. The Envoy are very aware that my friend went to rent a larger place for in-home care for his Mom. The Envoy was clear on the direction they were going with him and his Mom. Suddenly amnesia sinks in and for an entire week they’ve failed to discharge his Mom still for in-home care. What’s even more insulting is my friend is also a army veteran nurse. This nightmare hasn’t ended yet and will update when it does 3/8/21
I can't say enough about the professionalism, kindness and consideration provided by the staff at Envoy of Alexandria! My family member, who is a resident, always references how friendly and attentive the nurses and therapists are when they are caring for him. It's their kindness that he mentions the most, which warms my heart and eases my anxiety. The staff is also very timely when communicating updates and information.
I visited my mom and the covid visit went smoothly. They have problems connecting my phone calls to my mother, which is worrisome. Idris seems like a nice, responsible employee. I hope they can figure out the phone call thing quickly, as I live 1.5 hrs away, and can't always schedule a visit.
