My husband suffered what turned out to be a severe stroke in March 2016. After 6 weeks in the ICU, 100 days in a Rehab facility, then transferred to a LTC facility, where the monthly rate was $13,000 a month, I had to explore other options for him. Brookeville House No. 3 was on the point of opening. At first I was rather dismayed that SO much of the food was pre-packed, frozen....very little fresh food. That is now changing, to my (and others' ) relief. The caregivers are very kind and sociable. The kitchen area gets VERY noisy sometimes, to the extent that the noise of clattering pots & pans and loud talking drowns out the sound of the TV. There are two TVs in fairly close proximity to each other. One of them is kept extremely loud, which hinders the sound comfort level of the other. The house is kept very clean, but some of the furniture placed in his room has seen better days. The owner has never once called me to ask if everything is going OK, which I found rather disappointing. Laundry could be done better, I sometimes find my husband wearing someone else's clothes.I've very rarely seen any activities taking place for the residents. Also, the brochure talks about "monthly family dinners", but if any have been held in House No. 3, I haven't been made aware of them. The house itself is in a pleasant location, has a large deck, although maneuvering a wheelchair through the door onto the deck can be problematic. Some things could be better, but the environment is not institutional, as so many facilities of this nature are. I guess nowhere is perfect!
