Employees of Brookdale Senior Living in the Santa Monica, CA area generally have positive things to say about their experience. As the largest provider of senior living, Brookdale has protocols and standards in place that should ensure a satisfactory job experience. Employees appreciate the free lunch and the wonderful staff and residents. However, some have noted that middle management is entirely focused on occupancy and census, and does not care about the associates or the residents. Employees of Brookdale Senior Living generally have positive things to say about the company. They appreciate the free parking, paid orientation and training hours, and nice residents. However, they have noted that the health insurance is expensive and the deductibles are high. Additionally, CNA's PTO for the first year is nearly nonexistent and the pay deposit system is unusual. There is also a lack of work-life balance, as employees are often called in on days off due to staff shortages. Employees have also reported that management does not advocate for them and that communication is not always good. They have also noted that the pay rate is low and that the facility is often understaffed. Employees have also reported that the security system is an issue and that the training is too automated. I've never been to Brookdale Santa Monica the Gardens, I actually worked at Brookdale South Bay, I know the Executive Director at the Gardens, Mike Emerson and Mike Emerson was the Executive Director at Brookdale South Bay when it was Pacific Inn and Mike Emerson gave me my start and I will always be forever grateful to Mike Emerson and my days as a Brookdale Associate may be over and in life I learn that you always give credit and respect to the people that gave me a hand up and Mike Emerson is one that gave me a chance and I honestly don't begrudge anyone for moving on and moving up to a better position in their Professional career and I believe that if Mike Emerson was still at Brookdale South Bay, selfishly I would still be there and again Brookdale Santa Monica Gardens is a better place due to Mike Emerson's leadership! I myself is a better person for working under Mike Emerson for almost 4 years.
My Mom has been very happy here! This is a caring, lovely place, I have confidence my Mom is well taken care of. Tons of activities from exercise to art and much in between. My Mom has found lots of new friends, a true community.My Mom is very comfortable in her apartment, the entire building is very nice and well maintained. There is a nice outside garden as well, a great area to hang out with friends, family, or eat lunch. There's a community room, a library, and my Mom frequents the in house hairdresser. Ralph Balbin, the Executive Director is beyond responsive, and helpful. Everything I've seen from the staff from Lidia bringing my Mom a gift upon her arrival has been beyond the call of duty, and truly caring.The location is just ideal for my Mom (or really anyone for that matter), being able to walk to Palisades Park to see the sun set nightly, Montana Ave, and the Promenade, it's hard to think of a better location, especially for someone who no longer drives!
Not happy with the service that a client is receiving. A lot of money is paid to ensure that the client is taken care of, yet the staff does not do the work. I'm not sure why and don't want to say anything unkind if it's not the reason. I'd be wary bringing someone there. Need to really be on them to ensure they are doing their job.
On the surface, they're quite pleasant. However, they're only interested in money. I would recommend it, if you have no alternative!
I come here 3 times a week and I am greeted by friendly staff and residents like Ben and Helen and the Facility Manager Nancy are so nice to me
I am a Senior Placement Advisor and recently visited Brookdale Gardens Santa Monica, What a beautiful and well run community. The Community itself is just blocks from the beach, offering beautiful weather. Their staff Friendly, Kind and Experienced. The Executive Director Kind, Compassionate, and extremely knowledgeable. What an amazing Assisted Living Community, I would be happy to recommend this community to anyone, Bravo!!!
The place looks amazing; i can easily tell it’s very well maintained. The staff are very accommodating and they made us feel very comfortable. Thanks to Lidia, Kevin and Ralph for taking time to answer all our questions; they were very patient.
This is a good facility. The staff is very caring and they kept all the residents safe and sound during the pandemic. This Brookdale has two elevators but only one seems to always work and the other one is(on the left side) is constantly broken.
Santa Monica Gardens is a wonderful place for my mother. She is in a great circle of friends, has plenty of fun and intellectual activites, and professional caring staff. The only reason I haven’t given 5 stars is because of the ongoing elevator problems that have plagued Santa Monica Gardens again and again during my mother’s three years here. If Brookdale can go a year without a major elevator delay, I’ll gladly give this wonderful place 5 stars.
This was the best place for my mom! You are in good company and taken care of by the friendly, loving staff. Evelyn and Michael do everything possible to make life work for clients and family.The building is well maintained the food is very good! I can't say enough about Brookdale Gardens they were fantastic!
