Employee Reviews for Atria Senior Living in Encinitas, California
2.5 out of 5 stars. Based on 4 reviews
Employees working for Atria Senior Living in the Encinitas, CA area generally have mixed reviews. Many appreciate the friendly residents and nice office, as well as the great weather. However, they are critical of the lack of training and support, high turnover of Executive Directors, and no support on days off. They also feel that the company is too focused on money value instead of quality of care, and that the turnover rate is high in every position. Additionally, employees have noticed a decline in the quality of care since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, with micromanaging and inexperienced directors taking over, and marketing making false promises to new move-ins.Employee Reviews for Atria Senior Living
2.96 out of 5 stars. Based on 1000 reviews
Overall, employees at Atria Senior Living have a generally positive experience. They appreciate the great team atmosphere, friendly people, and resources available to management. They also appreciate the flexibility and benefits, such as free meals, that come with the job. However, there are some issues with management turnover, lack of support from support staff, lack of appreciation for employees, and lack of work/life balance. Atria was not a good option at all. They do not have outdoor space besides a patio by the garage and the place feels sad and institutionalized. We requested a final statement but were told they do not give statements..ok.. only to receive an invoice 2 months later. Some of their practices are questionable, but overall the sparse staff was nice and helpful.
From the moment we researched this property we felt comfortable and welcomed. During difficult times and hard decisions with regards to my mother and her care Atria made everything seem like it was just right. Jeanne our sales Rep was so kind, caring, enthusiastic and tentative she answered all of our questions and concerns. The care and enthusiasm of the staff made us very comfortable~ While we couldn't enter the building due to covid the "touchless model" gave us a good view of what to expect and what the atmosphere would be like for mom. We really appreciated the protective measures being taken for the care of the residence. Thank you for a great experience and hope to see you soon~
Moving Dad to Atria Encinitas during this pandemic was a little frightening but we realize he is safe and in the best place possible. The staff go out of their way to keep him informed and entertained. He averages at least 7 visits a day from various staff, all masked and gloved. The weather is consistently beautiful and while it was an adjustment for all of us, it's the best decision we ever made. Dad has made new friends, his mind is stimulated and he loves the food. Thank you to everyone at Atria Encinitas for the smooth transition in our lives. I'm glad I get to go back to being the son and having a relationship with my dad and not a professional care person.
When our mother decided she might be interested in getting a little more help with life, we toured a few assisted living facilities. Some were large, some small, some ultra modern, some cozy and homey. All had dedicated staff there to help. We chose Atria Encinitas, because it felt warm, homey, cozy and with staff that cared. It turns out after a year with Mom residing there, we realize it is the staff that makes up a big reason that it feels like the right and best decision. They are attentive and have a never ending drive to keep up residents spirits and keep them socializing. During the pandemic of Covid 19, they really kicked into gear to insure the health of all residents. Temperatures were taken 2x a day, masks required and activities were geared to keep social distancing. So now a year later we have no doubt, that Atria Encinitas is the BEST place for Mom!
Please note, this review is based on a tour we went on and not living here, but it could still be worthwhile if you are considering.Veronica, my sales contact was so attentive in the days preceding our tour, but as each day got closer, the people we were going to meet and the plans feel apart. We met with Raul, the maintenance director, who was definitely not trained as a sales guy, could not answer most of our questions and most importantly, the thing we wanted most - and I prepped Veronica on this several times - whether there was a Jewish community. He seemed very surprised by this question as if came out of the blue. He showed us a room after a wild goose chase and it was WAY more expensive than what we were quoted and what we saw other places. Getting even basic info from him was a challenge. How hard is it just have standard sales and marketing materials? Especially being given such prep time knowing that we were coming!?They fed us lunch, which was very generous. The staff was nice, but food was pretty subpar for a place like this, which was good but it seemed like a dodged bullet in this regard as well. This is not the place for "active" seniors. Seemed that most residents we met were at an advanced level of care, even though this was meant to be independent. We had very high expectations visiting this place, but it was the worst place we visited of the four we visited all day..
I previously gave Atria South a five star, glowing review, but that was several years ago. So much has changed and I am disappointed. The loving, caring, enthusiastic staff is gone and replaced by a revolving group who seem to learn the routine then leave. No one seems to give the individual attention that was once part of the 'Atria Family' that we loved. When my mother first came to Atria, the staff in place had been there many years and stayed because there were promotion opportunities and it was a good place to work. Today there are all new faces, and the new faces seem to change often.Activities too seem to be sparse and some days are long and boring for those not able to join reading groups or see well enough to play bingo. Activity directors used to know residents and design activities according to what residents enjoyed. This now has a three star rating from me, not the exemplary place I would once rave about. Food is fine, housekeeping is very good and everything is clean. The front desk is cheerful and people are treated with respect. It just doesn't go above and beyond as it once had to meet residents' needs.
The building in pretty well designed and decorated. The staff seemed nice during out tour. The seem to have plenty of activities and things to do. The only reason we didn't chose them is that it seems so big and we think mom will get lost in the largeness of the place. I think if you are looking for a memory care you have to find something smaller.
Atria wasn't a good option. The only outdoor space in the North wing was a little dingy patio off the garage. During my mother's short stay, some of the other residents were a bit rough. Not friendly. Also the lack of staff is concerning. Often there was no one to answer the telephone and I would have to drive 30 minutes to check on my mom because I couldn't reach anyone on the phone. No security whatsoever. Anyone could just walk in. Being on a busy road, the air isn't clean. The exhaust from the underground garage also was a little bit smelly. If you have a family member here, check on them. It's not the nicest, not the worst. Food also mediocre at best. This place made me sad.
My grandfather lived here for over 3 years. You will not find a more sincere, loving, warm and caring staff in all of San Diego. We looked at a lot of communities in the area, and Atria felt like "home". Kudos to Laura and the staff for always making "Pop" feel loved and cared for!
Atria does a great job! I've visited several times and the staff are all very pleasant. It's clear their leadership team is very involved and takes the time to develop relationships with all the residents.I've eaten both breakfast and lunch there and the food is great. Their chef, Daniel, does an amazing job and clearly takes great pride in what he does.
We have a relative here at Atria in Encinitas as well. Yes, I agree with Playa C., Laura and Bill are outstanding in every way. Unfortunately Bill moved on, we miss him a lot. Tthe staff make the residents feel very welcome. The kitchen is very good. The residents are friendly and socialize with each other. There is a court yard with benches, gardens, grass areas and palm trees which is a great place to sit in the sun, rest, socialize or walk your pet. From our own experience here, I like to suggest to lock up all personal items. There are two buildings, which are both quite different from each other. Our relative chose the south building and likes it there a lot.
We just got Grandma settled into Atria Encinitas. What a beautiful place full of really kind and caring staff and fun residents. The staff really goes out of their way to make you feel welcome and involved in your loved one's care. Resident Ambassadors show the new residents the ropes and help them integrate.Thank you to all the staff - I know I will miss someone - but special thanks to Bill, Laura, and Imee for getting us signed up (Imee your food is a terrific selling point and liable to make Grandma gain a few pounds!), Stephanie for overseeing grandma's care, and Rosa for being a cheerful monitor of all the activity at the front desk. While we have family nearby to visit Grandma on regular basis, I returned to Northern California confident that Grandma will be happy and treated with respect at Atria Encinitas. Extra great that it doesn't cost a small fortune!
Jeanne and her team are the best in the industry. Not only do they provide top-notch service, but a hand-holding experience second to none. Atria Encinitas is a beautiful Senior Living Community that will provide the best care and support for yourself or your loved one. Great Job, Atria Encinitas! Keep up the fantastic work.

Let me start with my first contact as I explored alternative types of facilities for my next life phase. I received a call from the marketing director who with her first contact felt like I had been reunited with an old friend. She was attentive without being intrusive, she listened without judgement, she was empathic without being overly sympathetic--she had my attention. After our exchange of information, I felt well informed. The professional approach by other key players maintained the same rhythm throughout the admission process. After my move to the facility I found the staff very pleasant and accommodating. It was refreshing to be assisted during the isolation of being in a Pandemic. The entire staff is so nice and seem as if they can't do enough for you. Besides a few food items that I don't particularly like, even in the outside world, there just isn't anything negative that I can mention. Being a retired Registered Nurse--with a focus on Adminiatration, Case Management, Education and Informatics --I hold the business of caring for people to high standards and the Atria Encinitas Senior Living Facility does just that! I'm so grateful to have this awesome place looking after me. It doesn't get any better than this! Thank you.
The sales director, Jeanne, spent over 45 minutes on the phone with me, walking me through everything from why I shouldn't feel guilty for moving my grandmother into assisted living, to a step-by-step list of what to expect next. We hit it off immediately and I discovered that we met several years ago when she worked for Home Instead Senior Care. At the last minute, she converted our phone call into Facetime and showed me a resident playing a medley of 70's tunes on the grand piano (without sheet music). I would move-in myself in a heartbeat. We have a tour scheduled soon but I just wanted to say, the first impression has been 5 star.
We moved Mom in to Atria in Encinitas a couple months ago. We were very worried that she would feel comfortable and like it there. Wow are we impressed! The staff couldn't be more helpful and friendly. They have been really good about letting us know what is going on with mom. Mom loves the food too. Even though we are in a pandemic we really feel like they are on top of things and keeping mom safe and happy!
Our main criteria in assisting dad in finding an assisted-care residence were;1. Compassionate staff2. Levels of care including memory care3. A sense of “family”We looked together at several spots from Santa Barbara to San Diego. Atria seemed to stand out in all these categories (and a 4th important to me - tasty food!!). Involving dad in the process of choice was also important. Atria understood this without it being stated. They have various programs designed to draw their residents into assisted-care life. It is not a group of busybodies watch you move up and down the hallway. It is a community of folk about LIFE and LIVING. And at the same time they welcomed private companions and some specialty support for dad – even in these Covid-times.Wishing all the best of health and happiness.
My grandma really needed full time care but was afraid to lose her independence. We talked her into at least touring a couple places and the friendliness of Atria Encinitas won her over. The staff send us pictures of grandma participating in fun activities and every picture shows her smiling. Very thankful we found Atria Encinitas because I always want the best for my grandma.

Atria has been home for my 94 year old mother for one year and I thought it was time to share some of my mother's and my thoughts. My thoughts: This place is a home, a home with a heart. The staff is above and beyond amazing. They handle all the residents needs with grace and compassion. I realize now how important the staff is as they are familiar faces day in and day out. Their interest and smiles are what end up making a happy day. Also the food...this is not just senior comfort food, it is plated thoughtfully, nutritious, but most of all just really good. Pandemic plan: With a building of the most vulnerable population, Atria stepped up and stepped up quickly to make more than sure everyone was safe and healthy. Temperatures are taken 2x a day and many of the group activities are very limited as residents sit out the pandemic in their rooms. Everyday the activities staff make calls on each one with snacks, water, and sometimes costumes and silly dances that make everyone chuckle. They are making a challenging situation entertaining and far from feeling isolated. Now a few quotes from my Mother: "After one year my favorite part is the staff. Everyone is super nice." "The food is very good." "I love the court yard to go and sit in the fresh air and sunshine and socialize." "While there are some days I am not as happy, mostly I am happy." "I realize it is my responsibility to make myself happy and a better person."So with that said, I would highly recommend Atria as a place for our valuable older loved ones to reside.
My mother is being showed so much love and compassion during these challenging Covid times. The staff is truly like a second family and you can tell the team there loves their jobs. They keep my mom laughing and happy. Our window visits have been fun, but I cannot wait until I get to hug my mom again. Thank you Atria Encinitas Family. You’re the best!
My mother has been at Atria South for over two years now and she absolutely loves it. Mother can not imagine a better place. The staff is attentive and caring, taking the time to find what she needs and what she enjoys. One wait staff, for example, recently asked me if mother has a favorite recipe so that the chef Daniel could prepare it for her. I often see staff helping residents take dogs for a walk or dog sit during meals. Many actives are offered each day and one can be as busy as she wants to be with exercise, sports, art, live entertainment and even monthly complimentary messages. Food is varied, healthy and tastily. This is home for mother and staff is family.
